It activates the moment you buy it...

I was busy and didn't think about it until I saw a commercial about HBO max and dug out the code. As I started it up I realized that I only had a few days left in my trial so I decided to not even try it. It seems a poor customer experience to activate a trial without telling you. It's cost them a potential customer.
