Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the HD Radio Portable Player's sound quality, ease of use, and the ability to receive HD radio broadcasts. Many appreciate its compact size, good battery life, and the clear display. While some users wish for an AM radio band and a longer warranty, the positive feedback on sound quality and reception outweighs these concerns. The price point is also frequently cited as a positive aspect of the product.

I love this thing! It has great reception, well within expectations of a digital receiver. It may help that my headphones have a long cord. The included headphones are marginal.

I got this radio as a christmas present for my boyfriend however looking at other reviews I decided to have him open it early. It worked great! He loves it so much. You should get better headphones for it. I think whether or not the reception is good depends on the area you live in so it could really be hit or miss when you buy it. I would say overall it's a sturdy little radio. It kind of sucks that it doesn't come with an AC adapter, you have to plug it in to your computer to charge it. I however was able to use my charger for my blackberry pearl to charge it and it worked fine. Over-all I am very pleased with this product.

    Great until it died.

Check the reviews and see that many have had theirs die shortly after the 90 day warranty. I bought two units 18 months ago. One still working. Other shows that HD station is being received but no audio. Tried other earphones, reset, factory defaults, ran battery down to zero & recharged - retpeated resets - no joy in mudville. There is clearly a design or manufacturing fault in the audio output circuit. My Sony Walkman FM radio has been working forever. (BSEE, MSEE)

    less commercials!

i heard there were less comercials on HD. I used to have sirius but hated their billing practices and the antenna scratched my car. this plugs into the aux in my scion! at first i thought it wasn't working but i just had to turn up the volume to like 40 (i guess cause the jack is meant for earbuds). anyways, not as many stations as i hoped, but def less commercials. same reception as the FM radio it seems, which would be a bummer for road trips and the reason I did like the satellite radio. it think its a bit pricey for just a radio. i don't see any big improvement in the sound. just not 10 commercials between every song. that's the only diff. i don't know who is complaining about headphones. its a standard jack. you could switch out to something else.

    Barely passable

First, what the unit does well: It doesn't take up much space, it has an aux jack so you can use it in the car, and the screen, while obviously cheap, is easy to read. What the unit does poorly: Has worse reception than anything more expensive than a clock radio and doesn't hold a charge to save its life. I have to charge it before I use it every single time or the unit won't even power on. That's just *awful*. Bottom line, if you want HD radio, don't do it on the cheap, or at least not this cheap.

    Still needs work

I was happy to find an HD radio under $50, but soon discovered that this low price came with a cost of poor design and performance. Reception is bad -- really bad. I live in an area where signals are strong, but the HD signal is constantly dropping out. The armband is a really poor design and to get it to be tight enough to not slip, it will cut off circulation in your arm. The ear buds are cheap and proprietary, and the casings around them are so poorly designed that they rattle as the cords swing as you walk. The programming and selection button design has to be the worst of all. You use the same buttons to program the mere 10 presets that you use to select the same presets. Since you cannot actually change a station until the HD signal is completely tuned in, moving through the presets is very difficult and in many cases you actually put the system in programming mode and accidently change your presets. It's better than no radio at all, but still it needs a lot of refinement.

This is a very useful product. It is small with excellent sound quality and reception. The battery life is limited. I would have preferred disposable batteries to the rechargeable battery.

This product works great. The reception to the AM station I am interested is spotty at times but that might be a function my location (44th floor). Overall a very good value for the price.

I love this radio it works awesome for a radio at work but only for about 3 month or just over 90days. Unfortunatelly I am about to exchange it for my 4th one in all cases it ceases to recognize the headphone jack, luckily I bought the extended warranty. Maybe by the time my warranty runs out they will have fixed the problem with these, as since I initially bought this I have seen SEVERAL others with the same problem..

Best HD Radio I have owned

I have owned a couple of radios in the past, and they have not worked like this. I attend school and this works great in and out of school. The only thing i would recommend is that you let the battery run to zero to charge it because i haven't and it shortened the Battery Life. Great Radio all in all. I would buy it again.

    Small well designed portable radio

This radio is well built ,value priced and sounds great. Purchased for AM HD reception at work inside a vehicle repair garage. Tried in personnal vehicle and constantly quit playing AM HD station (KDKA Pittsburgh) and stated "station no longer available". It did not work inside building for purpose I ourchased it. I guess you have to be in a certain distance of transmitter and unit is restricted by antenna size.

    Good HD Receiver

This is my first HD radio after getting rid of my satellite radio due to costs. I live about 35 miles from most of the stations that have an HD signal and I get them loud and clear. To use in a car, I bought a 6 foot cable at radio shack to "extend" the headphones. Even though I plug it into my aux in on my car radio, the extra cable works well since it is the antenna for the radio. I also use my better headphones instead of the ones that came with the radio. They weren't the best quality, but they were ok.

Good Quality HD Radio but Not Perfect

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The radio is of good quality, however, reception tends to drop when the unit is placed into a pocket as it causes the digital signal to disappear. Although an arm band is provided I would have preferred a belt clip.

This device has great looks and the size is wonderful. Signal reception needs to be improved however. I am in the DC area and the stations cut out very often while driving. Absolutely horrible choice for anyone looking to buy this product to listen to at work since it is very unlikely to pick up any stations inside buildings. I get a total of 3 stations while in my apartment, all of which cut out often without any movement. Battery life is okay, for those that are actually able to receive a station. I highly doubt this would work in downtown city areas with tall buildings around you, as it only takes a few trees to completely cut out signal to this device.

Exactly What I was looking for.

I purchased this for the FM only as I do not have HD in my rural area. Since changing all of my stereo systems with ipod compatible products, I was lacking an FM tuner with my components. This little radio can be hooked into the line output on my ipod speaker system which gives me FM when I want it without the bulk of another unit. It's also great for headphone use but I mainly wanted it to bring FM back into my home. Cool little thing. Hopefully HD will make it to my neck of the woods and it will be an added bonus. For now, it's doing exactly what I purchased it for.

wanted something to listen to the TV's at the club. really frustrating to have a built in battery that only lasts a few hours after a full (16 hour) charge. reception is fine on some stations at my club, crackles on others. big downside is Best Buy doesnt offer any competition to this item - they only sell their in house brand, Insignia.
