    Hidden History

This is a GREAT movie. I had just visited Johnson Space Center in Houston on OCT 5 2016 and saw the building dedicated to Katherine Johnson but did not know who she was or how she impacted NASA. It's a shame these courageous and wonderful ladies were kept hidden in the history books of NASA...and of out of history books. Fantastic history that's no longer a secret. and should be shouted out to the world! ALL LIVES AND ALL CONTRIBUTIONS MATTER! I was kinda upset that Taraji P. Henson was not nominated for Best Actress she carried the movie. It was great they brought out the real Katherine Johnson during the Academy Awards. Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae are also great. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for all in the family to watch....you will not be disappointed.

20th Century Fox's 2016 movie "Hidden Figures" (Chernin Entertainment/Levantine Films), rated PG, is well worth every penny to buy for yourself and your family. Admirable contributions made by an elite group of brainiac women in NASA's race-to-space during a tumultuous time of race-related issues was one of America's many golden nuggets of what really made the USA a true land of marvelous opportunity. This movie doesn't overdo any powerful points; it honors the contributions made by, not just three, but a whole team of African American women who helped pave a road for women, and for minorities, during a time when our general population had no idea that minority women were rocking our world -- and beyond!

good movie but I noticed some of the vehicles in the movie were newer than the year that they were saying. Saw a 1963/64 police car when the year was 1961.

First, the movie is great and I highly recommend it. But, as someone who has worked in the space industry for nearly 20 years and reading all I can about the history, some of the things that had to be done for movie purposes frustrated me. Costner's character in the movie is great, and is needed for the movie, but it's not based on a real individual. Instead, he's based on a collection of individuals, with a lot of liberty taken. Other things in the movie could not have happened as portrayed either. But, the story is true to the women who are the main characters, and I guess that's all that matters. True heroes, and we should always remember them and others like them.

It's not too often you get to see a feel good movie that's this good. Hidden figures does a great job of telling the story of 3 young black women all trying to make their way in a white man's world. This backdrop for this epic journey is 1960's NASA and the race to the moon. Now, outside of the gratuitous racial bias that was portrayed the movie was still palatable except....the part where the bathroom was all the way across campus and she spent the first several weeks/months traversing the campus through wind and rain and never ever mentioned it to her superior. So, all in all a great movie and one you'll be happy to watch with your whole family.

I was floored that this important information was not taught in school. This is epic to American history! The fact that it took this long to be brought to light shows how truly one sided this country is and loves only portray one race’s history. Leaving out other race’s involvements to make it seem supreme in the story of life, how atrocious! To know these ladies where the ones that accurately computerized celestial navigation for Project Mercury, Apollo 11, and futuristic plans for a mission to Mars decades before it happen is very empowering for women and African Americans alike. Bravo! This movie will have you screaming in joy! Enjoy this classic!

It's difficult to comprehend that the story of all these women has been suppressed for so many years. I'm a longtime fan of the Apollo space missions, but not once -- not even in Tom Hanks' "Earth to the Moon" series -- did any of these women get a mention. Amazing performances by the entire cast. And one of the most impressive and surprising things to see is all the computing that used to be done by human beings. I'm not a math person, so it might be more impressive to me, but ... wow. Already own this film as well. My only regret is that I have no grandchildren to share this film with.

Went to the movies to see this to see this movie you really brought back a lot of memories I remember the launch like it was yesterday and it's part of my history it was really interesting to know all the stuff that was behind it we only saw the launch and how it went was just amazing we never get to see the people that are actually behind all of the work and I thought the neat thing at the end of the movie they actually showed you the actual women that the movie was about and after many years they finally got credit for their fantastic work I could just watch it over and over again is that good a movie

Several times during this film, tears came to my eyes. I am aghast that people treated other people, their neighbors, so differently. It is easy to forget that in the time the film occurs, like today, genius is everywhere. It is shameful today that so little has been done to promote the wealth of intellect in more than half of the human race. This film should go a long way in showing young women that they ARE good at science and math. This is a treat for the intellect and the emotions alike. You will feel the entire range of human emotions, and this film is something you will want to watch over and over again.

    History At Its Best

An excellent film showing a part of American history which I bet very few people know anything about. I didn't and I grew up during this period of time and followed the space race to the moon. This film is a must see for all - young and old alike. It brings to light the contributions of a group of women in an era where women were rarely given credit for having brains and shows that where there is a will, there is a way - or you make a way. Seeing this film inspired me to buy the book to see what parts of the story were not included in the film. Don't miss this one - especially if you love learning history.

If you want an uplifting movie that makes you feel good, this is one. It's the true story of 3 African-American women working for NASA in the early 1960s, when American space efforts were just starting. These 3 women worked as mathematicians and engineers for NASA. The movie tells the story of how these 3 had to overcome segregation, racism and sexism to do their jobs. And they did that with personal grace and fortitude. The only things you won't feel good about is that in 1960s America, African American women did have to deal with racism and sexism to do the jobs they were so eminently qualified to do.

This movie is entertaining, uplifting and educational. This story about the space program in the 1960's and the prejudices endured by three mathematically gifted black women working for NASA. There was so much history I had never heard but found fascinating. I had no idea there were human "calculators" before there were computer calculators. And why didn't we know how instrumental the "calculators" were in the space program? It all comes together for an inspirational story. Each actor does a great job, it's hard to pick standouts because they all give memorable performances. Definitely recommended!

I've had this movie for about 2 months now and have seen it 3 times! So good I never get tired of it. Love the fact it's based on true events and the acting is amazing. What a great story of persistence, pride, and achieving what was thought to be impossible. Everyone I've shown it to says it's their favorite new movie too! Heartwarming and eye-opening as to what really happened at NASA in the space race. Pharrell Williams was a producer and did the soundtrack. The music is worth the movie!

The video and audio tracks are outstanding. The story was well told and I enjoyed learning the story of these three amazing women. It is set at a time in America where segregation was common place. Even though just a young boy at the time of the story it is hard to understand why things were the way that they were. The filmmaker was able to show how things were and in a way that I think no one would object to seeing. It was what it was. And the character played by Jim Parsons went from adding a "colored coffee pot" to getting and giving Katherine Johnson a cup of coffee by the end of the film.

As a student of American history I was totally blown away that I knew nothing about the "colored computers" at NASA. To think that this was happening while I was in high school and for it never to have received mention is a sad commentary on how we educate kids. This is not a story to be relegated to Black History Month, the accomplishments of these ladies should be integrally woven into the story of America's entry into the space race. Indeed, this should be required viewing to show young people that genius is both colorblind and not the resident of a particular gender.
