Where is the Original U.S. Theatrical Version?

'Highlander' is one of those films that is definitely an acquired taste, but its fan base knows who they are, and they really, really like the picture. Disagreement on final cut of the film between the producers and director led to several different versions of the film being released. I was a personal fan of the U.S. theatrical version (which is strangely absent from this dvd release), and while I too usually enjoy seeing director's cuts, this is one instance where the director was dead wrong in his decisons on certain scenes, and it shows. The U.S. Theatrical version of Highlander was a fun, fast, and mysterious type of film, while this Director's Cut really slows things down and adds in some really unnecessary extra footage. Bottom line, if you're going to release a dvd, at least give us the theatrical version too.

    There can be only one!

This is a review for the early bluray transfer for 2009 and earlier editions. The one that I had picked up originally was a Steelbook edition. A pretty well done remaster overall with a touched up image - not a whole lot of extra's included on this particular version. If you're looking for a 'complete' edition, the 30th Anniversary Edition is the way to go. The movie itself is a fun romp and ultimate cult classic from the 80s. Think Sword/Sorcery in a Modern City setting. It gets goofy, but its a fun ride.

    Great Movie!

The movie is about Connor MacCleod who is immortal and can only die by having his head removed from his body. It has him starting off in the 80's and going through a series of flashbacks to give his background. It's strongest point I think is the villian. He is a big part of the flick. I always seen him as almost as overwhelming as Darth Vader in the Stars Wars movies but not as in control of himself. He is more primal which represents the savage era in time he came from.

Highlander: Director's Cut is a great movie with a cool and innovative fantasy storyline. This is the original that spawned countless sequels. The ideas of that there can only be one is awesome. I enjoyed this movie and would definitely recommend it. Thank you for reading my review.

I almost cried to two scenes. I love this title and will watch it again many months later when it is broadcast cut on television when I can put in my Best Buy copy better in High Definition and watch it in full.

My review is centralized only on the transfer quality of the disc. The movie it's self is a fantastic watch- but the transfer is pretty muddled here. Not really the HD treatment, and the effects are pretty aged- though I am not sure if that is just because of problems with the upgrade or just how they appeared in the original format. I recommend the movie to anyone- just not this release.
