Just purchased this TV yesterday and completed the setup last night. It was flawless to set up and lord almighty is that picture sexy. Amazing quality for a very low price. I did compare it to other tv's on display that were name brands and I did extensive research online before jumping on this. This TV has a large amount of really good reviews and I definitely see why now. The setup it has by default I think its great as it is for tv viewing and gaming except one thing for both. Switch TV viewing to Theater mode and gaming to Game mode (obviously right?). The second I connected it to my Wi-Fi its downloaded a slew of updates (by my count 5 so far) that has updated its firmware for better performance and stability the updates say but since its new to me I don't know of any performance issues. I have it connected to my PS4 Pro on HDMI 3 (since HDMI 3 and 4 are the HDR10 ports and HDMI 2.0) and the Pro immediately recognized it as a 4K tv and updated the graphics to match. OH MY! The gaming graphics are INCREDIBLE!!!! According to the PS4 video output information, graphics are running at 4k and HDR will run at 2k@60Hz. It says it can improve to even higher through my TV's settings but I haven't played with the TV enough as of yet to see if it can go any higher. Truthfully though if I make it any higher I might just say forget reality and live as a shut-in so I think I'll leave it with the insane quality it already has. As for Apps if anyone is wondering it comes with the standard Amazon Video, VUDU, Netflix, and YouTube. There are more apps available in its store "Opera TV Store" but its not a robust library of apps. This TV is Linux Based not Android Based and not Roku, though you could just buy a Roku device and plug it in, or a Chromecast (which I already had) and plug that in for the android stuff and google play movies. Remote is really comfortable in hand and very easy to use even blindly. I realized how quickly I was navigating through stuff on the TV without even looking down to find a certain button for options, features, apps, or navigation. Bottom line: Great quality, great TV, Low price. Lacks the app store of other tv's especially android based tv's but... who cares? It's a high end low budget TV thats perfect for gaming and movie watching. Rectify with an HDMI device (Chromecast, Roku, etc). Buy this tv.

This tv can't be beat for the price. It has an amazing picture straight out the box, and with minor tweaking in the picture settings it's even better. If you're looking for an entry level 4K television at a great price then look no further. I am thoroughly happy with this purchase and would suggest it to my friends without a doubt. It is also very user-friendly and I had absolutely no complications figuring it out. Whatever you do, do not forget to register your television as soon as you purchase it as this gives you a 4-year warranty.

When I found out this tv does HDR at this price point I ran to the store to pick it up. As no other tv does HDR under a grand. There is some confusion, however, about where and how it can do HDR. -Does the Netflix App do HDR? I don't know. The Netflix FAQ on HDR says it will have an HDR tag on the content if it supports HDR. Marco Polo doesn't say HDR on it's info page but it does look dang good when watching so it is possible that the app just hasn't been fully updated to display the tag. The netflix app does do 4k. So it may be doing HDR. I have no way of proving it though. I'd love for Hisense to clarify this. -Amazon has lots of HDR content, but not with the built in app. When will that app be updated? I emailed hisense and got no response (I don't see where you can chat them). Amazon, currently, only shows 1080p content on this tv. -The VUDU app supposedly does do UHD but I have yet to find a UHD movie through it's interface to try. I put this tv in the bedroom. I don't have cable. I bought it for it's built in apps. I wish it had Hulu, but other than that I just hope they all get updated to handle HDR as HDR is the main reason I chose this tv. Best warranty out of the box out there. Best sound I've heard from a flatscreen tv. Amazing picture and viewing angles I just hope there were more HDR content outside of buying an expensive UHD bluray player.

      Hi thrust bucket –

It sounds like you're having a good time trying out your new 4KTV. We hope you keep loving every minute of it!

Regarding your question about Netflix, without specific content, and without the tag displaying for you, we can't confirm if they content you're watching is supported by HDR.

For Amazon, the app does currently support HD resolution. The latest firmware upgrade built in compatibility for future native app updates to support 4K content, so stay tuned to available updates to come down the wire.

We hope you don't need our 4-year warranty, but we're proud to offer it. Let us know if you need us. Hisense

Today after Geek Squad pronounced our 40" Toshiba "Smart TV" as DOA, hubby and I began looking around Best Buy for a replacement for our sitting room TV. We already have a 55" Sony Bravia Smart TV in our family room and weren't looking to spend that same kind of money for our sitting room's replacement TV. We wanted to stay under $500, and have similar Smart TV features of the Sony. We could consider going up from a 40" to a 50" as long as the height didn't exceed 30" (with the legs attached). Looking around Best Buy there were TONS of 1080p TVs that might fit the bill. (for this particular room a 1080p unit would not be a bad thing) However, we wanted to see if we could find a 4K TV that met our requirements. (Long shot!! lol) It came down to this TV and an LG model. After talking to the Best Buy rep, we opted to go with this TV because it had HDR and the LG did not. The price for a 50" 4k SmartTV with HDR was hard to beat. There are very few HDR tv's on the market for under $500. First, let me say that the setup of this TV was EASY PEEZY. Took no time to attach the legs, plug it in, and walk though the initial setup. STart to finish it took 15 mins including running a system update. The picture is awesome (hubby LOVES it). The sound is GREAT. (The DOA Toshiba had a low hum and nasty vibration sound at high volumes) The Smart TV aspects were a TRUE disappointment. We were expecting MUCH better. As another reviewer pointed out, the Smart TV aspect of this TV sucks. NO HULU?? Well gee whiz.. Our 4 year old HARDWIRED INTERNET Samsung Smart BluRay player supports Hulu. The app market on this TV is a joke. It's the SAME weak app market with the same limited app selection that our recently departed Toshiba had. (which is why we used the HARDWIRED INTERNET Samsung Smart BluRay player to access ALL of our streaming apps as opposed to the Toshiba's built in smart apps) Sadly we will not be able to really use the Smart TV features on this unit. Given the price point of this unit, this isn't a real surprise. Guess it WAS too good to be true huh?? lol.. Still we are a tad disappointed, and contemplated returning this TV until we did some research only to find that the 4K TVs in this pricepoint with "better" Smart TV features have other issues with the Smart TV features (like you MUST cast from the phone to stream) and NONE have HDR. So (to hubby's delight as he LOVES the picture) we will continue to use the 4 year old HARDWIRED INTERNET Samsung Smart BluRay player for streaming services. Eventually we will replace the 4 year old HARDWIRED INTERNET Samsung Smart BluRay player and get a streaming device to connect to this TV (Chromecast or Firestick or Roku) and we shall get over it.. kind of.. lol..

I just purchased this TV last night after reading online reviews and having bought two Vizio E48U-D0s from Best Buy (which I have to return). I've had mid-to-high end Samsung and Vizio TVs in the past. In fact, my last TV suffered a shattered screen during a recent move, so back in market for a new one I was. I looked at the new Vizio and Samsung sets and, deciding to go 4K, was taken aback by Samsung's prices. That led me to Vizio, whose TVs I'd had in the past and had been pretty happy with. Ultimately, I settled on the E48U-D0. Looked good in the store (though they never run anything dark or letter-boxed, which is, in my opinion, deceptive). I should have done more research, because while I would have been fine with the built-in Chromecast, I had no idea that even the TV's settings require using an app on my smart phone. This is ridiculous and a really poor product direction for Vizio, in my opinion. Worse, though, was that the luminance uniformity is terrible. The first one I brought home suffered significant light bleed from the lower left and right corners and also had three static, horizontal bright lines across its screen. So I picked up a second one. This one had significantly less light bleed in the corners, but the black bars in letter-boxed content weren't black. They were splotchy gray -- again, poor luminance uniformity, especially for a full-array back-lit TV. On top of this, the picture wasn't particularly good, lacking sharpness, contrast, and color clarity. It was like watching everthing through a thin blanket of fog - not at all something I would expect, even for $400. That said, I sorted reviews for 4K TVs by rating on Best Buy, and the Hisense 50H8C kept popping up with 4.6 stars, so I started my research. I'd seen the brand of TV for years but always thought of them as a bottom-of-the-barrel brand, along the lines of TCL or Westinghouse. However, the further I researched and the more reviews I read, the more convinced I became to give this TV a shot, and am I ever glad I did. Mounting it was kind of a hassle, due to the placement of the HDMI 2.0 ports (I don't like to bend my cables too sharply), but once it was up on the wall, everything from there was super smooth. I turned it on and stepped through the super easy set up process. It found my AC network and connected quickly and without issue. I then completed the registration process, which also went without a hitch (though I still haven't received an email regarding the extended warranty). With setup complete, I was informed about an updated firmware. I had a slight scare when I pressed OK on the remote to start the download, because shortly after the screen went completely dark with no signs of life -- no power LED, no nothing....I waited for about 5 minutes and started to think, "Son of a...." But then, it came to life, presenting a message telling me the download had completed and asking me if I wanted to proceed with the upgrade. I selected Yes, it did it's thing, restarted, and finished up without incident. I would recommend to Hisense that they add some kind of progress indicator during the download or update the on-screen message to inform customers the TV may appear to shut off but that this is normal. Might keep people from freaking out a little bit. :) The TV itself is very handsome. I thought the brushed metal bottom bezel would tweak my OCD, but it actually doesn't bother me and kind of distinguishes the component in my home theater. The remote is really good, too. Yes, it's basic, but the shortcut buttons for the most-used apps are nice and the tactile feel of the buttons is really, really nice and tells me they really take quality and user experience into consideration. All set up and ready to go, I started to watch, and...OH. MY. GOD. Is this a $2500 OLED display with 4K and Dolby Vision HDR? Not at all. BUT...this TV has got to have THE BEST picture quality of any TV I have ever owned. It has excellent luminance uniformity with only VERY MINOR brightness in the lower right corner, but I would hardly call it a "hot spot" as I experienced with the Vizio TVs. Yes, the black bars in letter-boxed films are a very acceptable and even level of black -- no distractions whatsoever. I calibrated the display in Theater mode, turning down the brightness a bit, upping the contrast just a little, and actually reducing color just one or two notches (the colors on this set REALLY pop, and I prefer more natural color tones). Sharpness I turned up a little to 5. I turned on the eco sensor, setting the minimum backlight to 0, and in a very (but not completely) dark room, the picture is still very, very bright. Dynamic contrast and noise reduction were turned off, but smooth motion I left set to "Standard." Speaking of which, I read in a few online reviews that this TV is very, very laggy with a significant amount of motion judder, but I've experienced none of this so far, and it's actually much, much better than the Samsung TV it replaced. I don't know if the TV is up-scaling content, but the level of detail in 1080p content is INSANE, and 4K video I've streamed on YouTube is stellar. I haven't used the apps a lot, but the TV's interface, from its settings to its apps, is fantastic. Samsung, LG, Vizio, and others should take a page from Hisense's UI design book. Most TV manufactures are, in my opinion, as bad at designing UIs as car audio head-unit manufacturers. Everything in the Hisense's UI is clear, laid out cleanly, and very intuitive. Absolutely nothing is cheesy, garish, or looks like it was designed by an engineer or amatuer UX designer. Even the on-screen notes for each setting are clear, easy to understand, and written in plain English with good, clear grammar. (While I understand that multi-national corporations [including those in the U.S.] might struggle with language barriers, Hisense has apparently done its work to ensure its products sold in the states are documented from top-to-bottom in well-written, non-broken English, and that's really, really appreciated.) Bravo! As for the sound, it's okay, I guess, but I use an A/V receiver, so it's a moot point to me. One "ding" on the TV: The only ARC-supported HDMI port is only Full HD. This means that if I want it connected to my A/V receiver with a single HDMI cable, AND I want 4K, I'm forced to use the TV's built-in speakers when using any of the TV's apps. It's not a huge ding, because I probably won't use the TV's apps much and, if I do, I can always run a second HDMI cable from the TV's ARC port to another HDMI port on my A/V receiver (just means I'd have to switch the input not only on the TV but also on my receiver). I'll update the review as I use the TV more, but based on my initial impressions and the few hours I spent with it last night, this TV is an ABSOLUTE STEAL.

I went into Best Buy to purchase a 50" led to upgrade my 2008 Panasonic Plasma . I was only looking at Samsung and LG. After trying a Samsung J6200, I tried the Hisense for $40 more upon only reading the reviews and wanting to upgrade to a 4k. Man, what a difference! The screen just pops with brightness and beautiful color, and 4k is really fun. I think the smart functionality on the tv cruises around nicely, and the remote just feels right. Barely had to mess with picture settings out of the box. I only use Apple tv primarily, and find myself using the tv's netflix and youtube as it's quicker and easier and better looking rather than the apple tv. Also, Pluto tv has free live television which is a bonus for cable cutters. Let me also say that the sound on this thing is fantastic. I own a soundbar, and I haven't even hooked it up as the tv sound is more than adequate and powerful on this baby. I will also say that while in my 15 day return period, I noticed the LG UH6100 on sale for the same price as the Hisense. I also picked it up to compare, and although the viewing angle was better on the LG(since it's IPS), the remote and functionality of the tv was a mess, and the overall clarity and brightness just didn't compete with the Hisense. So all in all, I'm a happy Hisense owner, and loving being suddently thrust into the 2160 4k world.

After viewing in store, alongside other models, then doing online research for a couple of days, I now have had this tv hooked up and watching for about an hour and it is very impressive. I have had a Samsung KU6300 4K for about a year and it took about 10 seconds of watching 4k content on this to realize how much better the hisense picture quality is. I've also watched some known-to-be-good-quality local 1080 content and the upscaling on it was phenomenal. Haven't watched cable yet so can't comment there. The sound is very adequate. It won't rival a decent sound bar but it has a lot of available volume and the mids and highs, including vocals, are perfectly clear. The smart menu/apps interface is very basic and I haven't tried watching anything through any of the built in apps. Rather I've watched only through a Roku Ultra: Netflix, DirecTV Now, Plex so far. I haven't done any picture tuning and just looked to see that the overall setting is "Energy Saving". I've read elsewhere that the viewing quality falls off sharply when viewing at an angle but I am not noticing that. I've moved around here and there, up to about 45 degrees from center and the quality is still very high.

When it comes to electronics I like to buy as close to top of the line as I can. But when I bought a new PS4, my $800 Sony tv, didn’t like it. So I decided to get a new tv. I saw this Hisense on sale and would normally look past it cause it’s not a popular brand tv. But I couldn’t pass up the price to at least give it a try. After getting it all hooked up, I was absolutely amazed. A tv half the price but more than double the quality. The picture is as clear and crisp as a $2000 tv.

Overall the TV is amazing for all your 4k Content and gaming needs, now I will say you will need to do a few things when setting up. First TURN OFF ultra smooth mode if you're not watching a UHD Blu-ray because it'll look super bad, secondly turn the sharpness down to 0 if you're not watching a high quality 1080P-4K content. Other then that the TV will amaze you at a fraction of the cost of other 4k TV'S and there are some features that traded off for the cost, but it is still worth picking up at $500. And one last important note is about the HDR feature on this set, as of now the only way to use the HDR is through the USB port on the side and not through HDMI, I have reached out to Hisense and they confirmed that they are working on possibly sending a firmware update to the TV and allowing the HDR feature work with the HDMI ports, will update if they do when they reach back out to me in a week or so. PS if you have a Xbox One S it'll look great on here ;)

After reading reviews I decided on this model though I paid almost half of the retail but even at full price it is still a good deal. It supports HDR10 but it doesn't look as good as other TVs but those TVs will easily cost you 2x or more than this one. There isn't a lot of HDR10 content out but it does look better - colors look more true to life, dark/light areas are better defined, etc. Non HDR 4k looks great as well my Vizio (not a high end model) looks comparable to this Hisense - the Hisense might even look better. My Vizio retails for the same as the Hisense and it doesn't support HDR. Input lag isn't the best - might be an issue for some gamers depending on the type of games you play. The smart functions on this TV work but it is sluggish - it will add to the cost but if you're not happy with the built in functions get a 4k capable streaming device. For the price I would recommend this TV - there are better TVs out there but I doubt you'll find one in the same price range. If this is going to be your primary TV, I would still recommend it due to the price, but there are better TVs out there (cost more though)
