Good TV for the money

I purchased this tv on June 17th and returned it on the 18th to get the LG 49UH6100. It was a tough decision to return it though.
The picture was very good but I wouldn't say great. The color doesn't have the pop that the SAMSUNG, LG, and Sony's do. The blacks were very black though and it really does have some great features for the price. The youtube app played at 4K.
The reasons I returned it: I don't trust the name. I know it sounds dumb to some, but I got over 6 years out of my Samsung that it is replacing so I hope to get the same out of this TV. In 2014, reviews (professional and consumer) were overwhelmingly negative for the Hisense brand. But, I thought I'd give it a shot because of the good reviews I'd seen on this TV. The Netflix app search function wouldn't work. The smart functions were okay but not impressive at all. Hulu and MLB.tv apps not available on Hisense.
First impressions of the LG are that the picture is great. The colors seem better. The blacks are good. For $100 difference, it'll be worth the peace of mind for some people. BUT, the Youtube app on the LG doesn't stream at 4K. So there's something that the Hisense has over it.

I Have bought TV's from Best Buy for 15 years and on Friday July 15th I bought a Insignia Roku Tv which didn't go well and I had to take it back this morning Sunday July 17th. I spotted the Hisense 50 INCH 4K and was blown away by the picture on this Tv. I exchanged for it and got it home and set it up. This is a great tv and I love, love, love it. The Tv doesn't have a lot of apps but I love the Netflix Short Cut and I have Kodi for all the rest and Kodi looks great on this Tv. I highly recommend this Tv and I am so Happy I gave Hisense a shot. Best Buy I love you.

Update to review posted August 14th

I had the problem outlined below again last night after doing a factory reset on August 14th. I had to do another factory reset. Not sure what the problem is but will either get hold of Hisense or Best Buy about the issue. Shouldn't have to do a factory reset every few days. When it works it's a great tv with a fantastic picture and I love that the main streaming services I use have their own button on the remote but it's a pain to have to do factory resets every few days.
***August 14th***
Bought the tv from the local Best Buy store about a week ago. Got home and got it mounted everything hooked up and it worked great. Streamed video through the built in Amazon app for a couple of nights then started getting a bandwidth error and couldn't stream anything from any app. At this time I couldn't get anything out of the HDMI inputs either. The only way to fix it was to unplug the tv for a few seconds and plug it back in again then it worked fine for the next session but I had to unplug it again the next time I used it to get it to work. This happened every night so I did a factory reset. We'll see how it works after the reset. A very reasonable price for this tv but even at that it should work without having to unplug it all the time.

As of 11/29/2023 this TV is still running great. Clarity and speakers are still as good as when I bought it nearly 7 years ago. Web App Store is no longer supported but that’s fine.

Very impressed, I absolutely love this tv so far. At first I was a little skeptical about buying it since it is not a popular brand but I decided to give it a try. Best decision made! This Tv gives you the quality of an LG, Samsung or Sony for half the price!!! Who doesn’t want THAT?!

I actually purchased this tv as a price replacement for the 43" Vizio smart cast I purchased at Sam's club. Extremely disappointed in the concept of the smart cast and I just couldn't bring myself to keep it. I then so the Hisense which was not only bigger but the price at the time was only a difference of like 40 bucks. I was very skeptical at first but I had seen enough of the models in different homes to know the picture was fairly decent. Since it was not going to be used a lot, I figured it would be a good buy. I played with the tv settings and finally, got the picture to my likings and I am extremely happy with the purchase. It is definitely worth the money and the upscaling is not too bad either. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because the closer you are to the television the grainier it looks. it is definitely not for a small room but overall a really nice set.

I originally purchased the Visio Smartcast 48, but had to return it because the picture was just the worst. Wow, is all I can say. Out of the box this one is so much better. With very little tweaking, I'm impressed. This is a great TV for the price. Now I'm one happy customer.

I was on the fence about going with Hisense, as I have always owned Samsung. I couldn't pass up the deal on a 4K HDR TV, so I bought it. They also offered an extended warranty for free if I registered within so many days, which I did (thankfully). I purchased this TV in January 2017, and 3-4 weeks ago it started to "flash" out for a second or two, then come back. Picture and sound would go just briefly and come back and it would do this more frequently. A few days ago the picture went out completely. I can still get sound, but no picture on any inputs (can't even change the inputs because there is no picture for the menu even).
Now, I don't use this TV often. It is in our dining room, and so it doesn't get the hours that my Samsung gets in the main room (which I've owned for 5 years now without a hiccup). It is however my only 4K TV so I DO use it for gaming and 4K movies. I called Hisense, frustrated, but knew it was covered under warranty. I reported the issue on Sunday, and was told to send in the receipt and pictures of the TV, and I would be called during the week. I decided not to wait and I called Monday morning because I wanted to expedite the resolution to get my 4K TV back in operation. I thought that with the short amount of time that I owned it, they could simply do an exchange for me. Nope. I was told that I had to mail it in to them for repair. Since I didn't have the original box (I kept it until August and finally threw it away...big mistake that won't happen again), they had to mail me a box to ship it to them in. Now it did only take 2 days to receive the box, and it is packed and going out today, so I can't comment on the return time...but I'm disappointed that I wasn't offered to have it replaced with a new one. I would have paid for it and could have been refunded the money once my broken one was returned to them. Many companies have done this in the past on other products.
Buyer beware. I rated 2 stars because it was a great TV with a great picture at a great deal. I'm happy to have the warranty and happy it's being repaired at no cost to me. I'm not happy that it broke so soon, and not happy that it's being sent to them for repair, rather than being sent a new one to replace (or at least sending a technician out to my house to repair it). Had they offered to send a new replacement, I would have even paid additional money for a larger size, as the 50 inch was a lot smaller than I expected it to be.
Depending on how this process goes until I receive a working TV back, I may change my review. Until then, I can't recommend the TV, as it doesn't come without some headaches. Perhaps I received a bad one, as it does happen with electronics, but I don't think it is too much to ask to have a new one exchanged for the bad one, especially since I've owned it for less than a year. It would have lessened the amount of time that I'd be without the TV, and is indicative of good customer support.

I originally did a ton of research and thought that I was getting this TV for a steal. The picture had looked great, it was said to be future proof because of 4k and hdr and it was really cheap and had that great warranty. All of that was great until I found out that it doesn't really have HDR. It only supports HDR through usb and that's pretty much useless. Hisense reps claim there is an update for this but have no idea when it is coming, yet the TV came out over half a year ago. For that reason I had to return this TV as I want true hdr for my ps4 and Netflix. This TV doesn't support hdr for streaming either. So I took it back and got a Samsung ks8000 instead, and wow, I thought the hisense looked nice but this blew it out the water. If you're into new technology like me, the hisense isn't for you, but if you just want good 4k for the money and don't care for hdr than this might be okay. But trust me, the extra money is worth it for the samsung

Hi! Our software engineers are working on an update to enable HDR10 via HDMI input, which would give the TV the compatibility to Xbox One S. The update is scheduled to come out in late September. And you should be able to get the update by going to "Settings">"About TV" > "Check Firmware Update". If you can't receive an update over the air, you can always contact us at 1-888-935-8880 to request for one.

I can't say enough good things about this TV. The other reviewers have. Granted, it's not a top tier HDR display, but it comes close.
It delivers on so many levels at an unheard of price point it's in a league of its own. This for me is a "no regrets" purchase.
Best Buy gets a shout out too. They did not match Amazon and the likes on price, they flat out 'Bested' them.
My only regret is BB's decision not to carry and the sell the 55 inch H8C.
Very Highly Recommended.

Exchanged the 43" for this one only for $30 more and it was a good move, total was $380. I can finally see 4k from YouTube and other sources as a 4k should look not like a 1080p signal. Probably the best 4k deal outhere.

I have to say that this has an incredible picture. There are times its a little too good. The upscaling is real. I had an Apple TV (older) connected that we used to watch Hulu and even though it was only 1080p it looked better than ever. But we had to use the Apple TV or Xbox to watch most things. The Opera App Store is lacking of most of anything worth while. I mean, it doesn't have Hulu! If you don't need the "smart" aspect it's a nice TV for the price.

I did a lot of research on 4k TVs with a price range between $500-$700. I finally decided to go with this model form Hisense. All I can say is wow, stunning picture for being priced at $499. It was outstanding picture and contract.
You definitely have to mess with the setting for 30 mins or so to tweak it the right way, but the upscaling is great, and content already in 4k (Netflix) is amazing. Seriously, if you are on a budget and cannot spend $2,000 or higher on a big brand go with Hisense, great product!

Was absolutely shocked how well a $300.00 HD-HDR 10 TV
played. Picture is fantastic and the sound from the TV itself is perfect. They told me this is an entry level 4k TV and I would be better off if I purchased another one for only $700.00 more. thanks. But they were wrong .
Purchased this TV 4/21/18.
for my bedroom and it is outstanding. Plays and looks just like the $1000.00 model they recommended. Got it on sale for $311.00 and very happy I did. Would positively recommend this TV. The streaming in 4k is terrific.
