So I bought this hisense open box. Needed a TV for the bedroom. I was really impressed with the image (full array) dont get that in many budget friendly tvs. But the bad is the software. Extremely lagy sometimes have to wait 5 6 min for it to turn on and for it to go to apps or even the input screen.

This Tv may not be as good as an OLED or QLED but for the price it performs pretty good. It has descent black levels, HDR content looks great, low input lag for gaming. I paid like $400 for the 55” and I’m not disappointed. I’m even considering getting this tv in a bigger size. LG, Samsung and the other big brands got some competition.

We love the color, voice clarity and the picture is so nice and sharp. We bought it a second time after a lightning strike broke our last one. So happy with our purchase! I would obviously recommend this tv to anyone who wants a great tv for a very reasonable price.

Good Picture, Bad Smart TV

The picture is beautiful. You can see how good it is when you go into settings and turn the view mode to "Showroom" which is what you see on display at Best Buy Stores. I personally believe that if you see a bad video on this TV that it has more to do with the video file itself and not the TV.
The worst thing about this TV is that the Smart Android TV is super laggy. You push a button on the remote and the TV responds anywhere from instant to 10 seconds. I know I can buy an third-party box like the Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV etc. but I feel that if you include any feature such as a Smart TV, you should do it right and it should work smoothly.

I can't compare this to a weeks long usage of a $3K TV but for sub-$500, the picture and overall experience has been first rate. Both 1080p and 4K shows look fantastic - very sharp. I read some negatives about sound - I don't really need a full, deafening home theater experience so the speakers are actually great. Android TV is actually pretty good. It's a little slower than my Roku stick but more than serviceable.
Cons - minor but the remote is a bit busy. All the controls you might want are on there but there were probably better layouts. As noted, Android TV a little slow - just a slight lag.
Overall - very happy so far.

Performance overall is great for a cheap good tv for my bedroom, with only 700 nits, gives you enough balance of colors and blacks for a not to dark room and tries to give you a good experience with Dolby vision in Netflix but not the best. The speed of the processor feels kind of slow with the android os, sometimes struggling with loading times with complex 4k content in youtube, haven't tried with any gaming or 4k player only with the local apps. There's a bit of dark edges in the corners but nothing to bother me.
It can be controlled with Alexa (on/off) and you have a slow version of google assistant but very handy...so in general I'm satisfied for my not to regular bedroom watching, probably I'll not be going this way for my living room.

It has been a great tv. Great picture and easy set up. Only reason that it’s not 5 stars is because I used the optical cable to plug in my sound bar. There is no setting to turn off the sound on the TV set. I have to work around it.

Hisense solidifies their recent emergence among television brands with a solid, feature-rich Google TV. The amount of premium options available on the H8F is absolutely excellent at its price point. Full Array Local Dimming and Dolby Vision are especially great to have.
Image processing, however, leaves something to be desired and sometimes appears slow, especially when cutting to and from black. It often creates a crossfading effect that does not exist in the source material.
This, I imagine, will be a minor complaint from the average viewer. Other televisions with similar features and stronger image processing may be more tempting but are likely more expensive. Because of that, the H8F carries tremendous value.

The best mid tier budget TV of 2019,great blacks almost like Oled,I would have given this TV 5 stars the only downside is it freezes all the time, a Factory reset makes it better, but it still does, but not as bad

A LOT of tv for a great price

Lets start with build. The tv itself is pretty solid for how thin it is. The frame and the stand is made out of metal which gives it a nice premium feel. It has almost no bezel so it fits into tighter areas a lot easier because its mostly just screen. I also like how they give two different configurations for the placement of the stand for us who are not wall mounting it. The remote is fantastic. The button placement and the feel of the clicks as you move around the menus is better than any of the other smart tv remotes I own. I have android tvs from other manufactures and they need to take note here. One thing that sorta annoys me is that there is an orange light that stays on when the TV is in standby mode. Seems like a waste of energy. From the specs you can see it has plenty of hdmi ports and even a composite. It has wireless AC and a network jack if you don't want to go wireless. Also a internal digital tv tuner for over the air which some manufactures seem to leave out these days.
TV comes with android tv 8.0 and a pretty recent 2019 security update applied. Hopefully they continue to keep the tv somewhat up to date for the next few years. I am really happy Hisense stuck with android tv. In my opinion its the best smart tv platform out there. There are a ton of apps in the android tv play store and the OS just offers great all around functionality. And because its running android tv it comes with google assistant and Chromecast support built in. To activate google assistant there is a button on the remote and a microphone so its not always listening which is nice. Note that there are a few pre-installed apps which you are not allowed to uninstall. I wish they would allow uninstall of some of these as the tv only comes with 5gb of internal storage and over 1gb is already used out of the box by these apps. You can add external storage but would have been nice if it would have come with a bit more internal space for apps and games.
Now to whats important , picture and sound. Honestly I didn't expect too much from a mid-range tv at this price point. But I was pleasantly surprised. I compared it to my high end tv and the colors are pretty close. I think it gets plenty bright as well. It comes defaulted to power saving mode so if you switch this to something else the brightness goes to where I feel it should. There is a lot of advanced configuration tuning as well for both picture and sound which is nice for people like me who strife for better picture and sound. Over the air and cable HD content looked good to me. No complaints. I did a bit of streaming with UHD with HDR and that looked fantastic. Again for this price point I didn't expect this at all. As for sound its not terrible but nor is it great by any means. Typical for any tv these days.
I feel like the gap between high end TVs and these mid rangers is getting sooo close. If you are looking for a TV that has a LOT of features and looks great but don't want to spend to much money this is a fantastic deal.

The picture quality on this is fantastic and very high end. However, I ended up returning this because it kept freezing up and skipping. The android OS is really nice and I enjoyed it when it did not give problems but it constantly started running slow and freezing on apps. Also the motion enhancement caused a lot of skipping so I had to keep it turned off and back to the native 60hz. I ended up returning and going with the TCL 6 series which has been a lot smoother tv in the same price and picture quality range.

I guess I’ll start with the good things first. Picture is great, colors are definitely better than let’s say a Samsung ru7100 for example. I’ve seen reviews saying the motion is bad- I would rate it slightly below average but it doesn’t bother me. Android tv hasn’t been too laggy.
Okay for the bad, TV flickers terribly in Dolby/HDR. I can get it to stop if I use a non 4K Apple TV. What’s worse, is that Hisense customer service is unresponsive. I’ve emailed them and wait days with no response to the issue. The canceled my case number because I didn’t respond with a video. I sent three emails and got the auto confirmation each time. Not helpful at all.
Next, if you want to use this with an optical sound bar connection, there is no way to disable the internal tv speakers. And there’s no selection to go through an optical. It’s really strange that there wouldn’t be an option to select, I’ve researched and other people have the same issue on this model.
Lastly, the tv auto turns off after about 20 mins of non-use... I can’t figure out the setting that’s causing this. Maybe it’s powering off when my Apple TV does through hdmi-cec? I’m trying to test it to see if that is it.
If Hisense could help me with an update to figure out this flickering, I would consider keeping it. It’s really bad and noticeable. I would post a video if I could.

Hello Hisense Customer, Thank you for your interest in the Hisense 55H8Fand for taking the time to provide us with a feedback. A software update will resolve the HDR flicker There is no need to disable the speakers as we have made it much easier just turning the volume to zero with the remote, also sleep timer settings can be adjusted in the system menu. If this does not resolve the issue, please reach out directly to our support team at 1-888-935-8880 or email us at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you! Very impressed by the picture quality on this TV for the price, and I also wanted an android tv, so it seemed like a win win.
Unfortunately, this TV is pretty slow and seems to get slower the longer it goes without a full power down. It's gotten to the point now where I just fully power it down every time I turn it off. This has made the performance bearable, but I really wish Hisense would just update the firmware.

I so wanted this to be an awesome TV. The picture is amazing, even coming from another 4k TV. Very vivid color and super deep blacks. The problem with this TV is it freezes and you have to unplug it to get it to work. This issues isn't all the time but at less than a month old it should NOT happen at all. I will try to return it asap.

This is hands down the best Android tv for the money that you'll find anywhere! I even sold my TCL 6 series so I could replace it with this. Android works great, with only an occasional hickup. It has an AMAZING PICTURE, even when sitting off to the side. Sound is great as well. I've side loaded several apps with no problems at all, including Prime video. Seriously, unless you enjoy throwing money away, buy this tv, you will love it!

I own many high end smart TVs by Samsung. Before I picked up the Hisense, I tried an LG in my bedroom. The black levels were horrible regardless of setting. This TV they are only black like my Samsung and it even has Bluetooth and local dimming zones. Android OS is great, give it time to update and it will speed up. Get rid of the reccomended lines on the home screen and it is super fast. Happy so far.

This H8F is no slouch when it comes to clarity, deep black, color accuracy, sound and price. Picture quality of SD, HD and 4K videos are above average. Once it is calibrated correctly, this tv will amaze you. It is comparable to OLED in terms of deep black but with much brighter image than OLED. For 55inch at $399 with android OS nothing comes close. As a bonus, this has 13ms game lag which is good for gamers.

Can be frustrating to use the built in software

I got two similar TVs within a short time of each other, this Hisense, which has built in Android TV, and a Vizio, which uses their own proprietary smart TV system.
I was expecting this to be the better TV, because it had Google's software. This didn't turn out to be the case. The software onboard can be so slow it is nearly unusable. No amount of updating it seems to resolve the problem. The Vizio on the other hand, the default software has always worked great. The problem being, sometimes it took a while for new apps, like HBOMax when it came out, to get released.
Another thing, which I really noticed when I first got it, but which I pretty much don't even notice anymore, and which no one else in my family ever really noticed, was the picture in the top left and right corners seemed to fade near the frame, like the frame pinched it too tight. It was only really noticeable with like a white background.
We now use it with a 4K firetv stick, and that pretty much solves the problem with speed, which was really this TVs biggest problem.
Considering the price paid for it though, it has been a great value.
