Amazing TV. Awful software.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV hits the perfect spot in Spec & price. The screen gets incredibly bright, picture is very sharp, motion is handled super well. I went from a Vizio 55" P-series and absolutely love this TV over that. Every TV has its flaws, and this one is purely in all of the software it's wrapped in. Android TV has a lot of application support which is really nice, but...well... - This TV loves to power on devices at random. Sound bar, Ps5, you name it. You might think this is device link, but I can assure you that setting is disabled on each peripheral, and there's a notable delay when it starts another device. - Keyboard lag. This is abysmal. Typing with the remote control is unresponsive, laggy, and the most frustrating part of the entire TV. Like nails on a chalkboard, this is absolutely aggravating. - Unresponsive apps. The TV's power button, by default, puts the TV to sleep. When you wake it up, there's like a 50/50 chance you have to reboot the entire TV to open Netflix or HBO Max again. Lots of loading loops. - Bad interface. This comes solely down to Android TV OS, but defining settings between inputs isn't very intuitive. Often I found myself making changes to global inputs rather than a specific HDMI. - Game mode. Great for responsiveness, but completely destroys the TV's picture quality. I don't mean slightly. I mean color is gone. The picture is ugly. You can take the time to tune it, which stays responsive without incurring input delay, I just don't know why that wasn't done to begin with. If you want a TV that has incredible picture for an amazing price, and are willing to deal with some awful software junk, this is absolutely the TV for you.

Bang for the buck
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picture Quality for the money spent is premium with this TV. Great black levels supported by the local dimming (lots of zones and quality implementation), and this thing gets very bright for my use case. Pro reviews say the color strays toward red which I tend to agree, but it still looks great in my room and honestly have no plans to get it calibrated. Hisense impressed me with this model, even though it doesn't have gaming features like VRR and HDMI 2.1 for 120hz, this plays games beautifully. Setup is a breeze on an Android phone due to the Google interface, so that was a pleasant surprise as a first-time user. Also for the privacy-conscious, you can disable the mic with a hardware switch on the front. If the higher tier gaming features are a deal breaker then you'll need to look elsewhere, but if 4k/60hz will suit your preferences, I'm not sure there is TV out there to match the value offered by the H9G.

Great tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since we Installed our new Hisense tv in the bedroom we are loving it. The picture is awesome!! Voice is very good for TV speakers. I do have a bit of difficulty using "OK Google" to control the tv as it is sensitive as to how things are said. I believe with contined use, I will get it figured out. Have watched a lot of live tv and movies, all with great color, clarity and voice. We have also installed Roku and Firestick for many many options. One thing I find d annoying is that the tv keeps popping up with sort of like an ad in the upper right corner telling that the tv is "optimizing for movie" or whatever is on. I wish it would just do this in the background vs showing it on the screen. We received the tv at s discounted price for the unbiased and truthful review.

No better value for HDR, period
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had a lot of TV's as an enthusiast and have gotten to buy a number for a number of households and the expert reviews are spot on for this, just amazing for the money. Basically just barely behind OLED in HDR for 40% the cost! I used to prefer TCL 6 series for best value set but this blows away even their newer mini LED model with superior brightness and color. Android TV system is, in my opinion, better than Roku, but easy to learn regardless without excessive ads. On this TV it's fast and smooth enough considering Smart features are basically included free from subscriptions anyway. Unless you have OLED money, there is literally no better deal on a TV!

Quality TV at a Great Value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, the TV was very lightweight and easy to un-package and setup. It has many of the popular apps like Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, YouTube, etc already downloaded. But, don’t worry you can also download many more form the store (as well as games!). The 4K premium ULED / Quantum dot technology is definitely the star of the show for me! The picture quality was so clear. The colors so vibrant and on point. I truly enjoyed watching a few 4K Netflix movies on this tv. Also, if you’re a gamer, my Xbox (madden & nba 2k) screen quality was phenomenal! Lastly, the design was very pleasing also. I love the shape of the stand legs, it felt very secure when placing on my stand. My previous TV stand legs were a lot thinner and I often felt nervous my son would knock it off my stand. I didn’t feel that way with this design! Overall, I would definitely recommend the Hisense H9G Quantum Television! I received this TV at a discounted price for my review. But, make no mistakes...the retail price is worth every penny for this TV!

Still going strong after two+ years!
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've had this Hisense TV for over two years and it's still going strong. It's in our very bright living room with several large windows and a sliding glass door and it is plenty bright to overcome any glare. The picture isn't up to today's high-tech standards, but it looks very good. Maybe the best part is the sound. I am still impressed with how good it sounds for small TV-mounted speakers. We've had no problems with this TV and plan to keep using it for years to come.

Amazing color and brightness. Other than that...
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If i could give this TV a 4.5 I would. I came to this TV from an '07 32 inch Samsung that was about as bright and colorful as I was. Needless to say, regardless of what TV i bought, it'd be an upgrade. I did months of research before landing on this TV, knowing that Hisense is a brand targeted at people hoping to get the most bang for their limited buck. That was February of 2021. I've had this TV for almost seven months, and I'm gonna tell you if you're the person who should buy it. You'll love this TV if you like brightness and color. It does those things exceptionally well. I even have to turn the backlight to zero just to be able to sleep. The color, probably thanks in large part to the quantum dot, are also wonderful. It's important to note that I'm not a professional calibrator, nor did I have the TV professionally calibrated. Everything I did was a result of my own trial and error, and as a result, the TV looks great. As long as you take the time to tinker with the picture settings, you will absolutely come away with something you can sit back and "wow" at, like I did. You may not like this TV if you expect crazy black levels. Coming from my old TV, it was a huge improvement, to be sure. Instead of greys, i had actual blacks, thanks to the full array local dimming. Unfortunately, the local dimming is only good intermittently. Sometimes, I'll be blown away by how deep and dark the blacks are and how well it's managing them. Other times, mainly with some sort of loading screen logo or what have you, there will be massive light bleed in the corners or the sides. It's not the best, like an OLED, but it's not the worst, like a TV from 2007. You also may not like this TV if you value motion or clarity. The motion is only good/great (depending on what you're looking at, if it runs at 60hz, etc) when in 'Game' mode, and clarity/upscaling are only passable if you're working with HD and above. Another thing that bothers me is what I've come to understand is called "micro-dimming" which, to try and give you a visual, is when you move your camera in say a video game, and for whatever reason, that motion makes the shadows get darker. If you notice it, it becomes very distracting and jarring. The TV is built very nicely. It looks good. The remote is also nice, although not as fancy shmancy as some others I've seen. Gaming on this thing is fine. Genuinely, I have nothing to compare it to really, but it's enjoyable for me. There's nothing that ruins it. Watching something in either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, light may bleed into the black bars. It's honestly hit or miss. If you don't focus on it, it shouldn't bother you. There is also an issue where the backlight will freak out and panic when presented with something that is very dark but still has details in the background. A good example of this is in the video game God of War (2018) when Kratos walks into his home and the camera is looking at him and slightly over his shoulder. To his left, his home is very dark, but still visible, and the local dimming seemingly doesn't understand how to process this, so it simply flickers on and off rapidly. This also happened quite frequently when I was watching TV. Some scenes would be at night, and the TV would have no idea how to handle it. I have still not found a way to fix this other than to turn local dimming off, which isn't a huge ask, but is still dissapointing. Overall, I love this TV. It can do 1080p at 120hz, or 4k at 60hz. The colors, once properly tinkered, are extremely pleasing to look at. Because it runs with Android, it's fairly customizable, you can download unorthodox apps, and it recognizes your game console from the home bar or menu or what have you which is a big quality of life addition. The sound is also really good, as far as my ears can tell. That scene in Rango where Rattlesnake Jake is telling Rango off for the first time? Looks beautiful, and Jake's voice absolutely booms with bass. I have no sound bar or anything, and was amazed at how much bass the TV speakers were giving out.

Great TV but issues with shadows
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent TV however after three years it started showing shadows and they are now covering at least 50% of the screen. I wish I would have purchased the extended warranty. In the market for another TV and will probably still go with a Hisense for the overall value ut this time with the warranty in case the screen fails.

Great looking TV, especially for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent a lot of time reading reviews and going over all the details at Rtings.com before I finally settled on the H9G. This TV definitely has a better and smoother picture than my old Vizio 4K TV. The downside of being an early adopter of 4K was that my Vizio didn't have HDR, so it is nice to have HDR now. The blacks on this TV are great. The Android TV feature ended up replacing both my Roku and my Google TV ChromeCast which freed up two HDMI ports. My only complaint so far with this TV has to deal with the vesa mount. For whatever reason, Hisense decided the bottom screws should be indented and the screws that came with the TV are no where close to being able to attach a mount. Even the screws that came with my mount are not long enough so I had to order a vesa mount screw kit with various sizes of screws. So keep this in mind if you plan on mounting the TV.

Best Sub $1K TV?
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROS: -Breathtaking colors in light scenes. -Motion settings work good, but I found that I had to use the custom setting to dial in motion to my liking, as all of the presets looked a bit off to me. -Competitively priced. -Local dimming works great in 90% of scenes. -Great brightness. -No noticeable input lag when gaming. CONS: -Took me about a month to find calibration settings that I was happy with. -The local dimming can look horrible in certain scenes with either space like patterns or dim gray scenes. The dimming array is also visible to me during some darker scenes with lots of motion. -Many of the post processing settings on this tv create distracting artifacts that take away from the image quality rather than enhancing it. Ex: Sharpening above 2 causes flickering, brightness at or above 50 seems to cause DSE, motion clearness drops the brightness way too low, dynamic contrast and noise reduction seem to distort colors in motion. -My panel had at least 2 dead pixels, but they aren't visible from my seating location. -Sometimes my Google Assistant will automatically pop up due to it seeming to listen to dialogue on the tv. -No HDMI 2.1, so the tv can't run at it's advertised 4k/120hz. OTHER THOUGHTS: So far Hisense has patched out some older issues I had with this TV (Stuttering, some ghosting), so I'm hoping they can also patch out some of the additional exiting issues relating to post processing. Overall I would give this tv an 8.5/10 and would likely buy it again if given the opportunity.

Hisense, a winner
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent TV, the brightness and HDR helped me decide on this tv over an OLED. I had purchased both this and the Sony A90j which although had more accurate colors was quite a bit more dim than this tv. What that meant was a lot of the detail in dark scenes was lost. I had both TVs setup in my living room synced and playing "Our Planet" on dolby vision and the brighter H9G was able to display detail that the Sony was not. To be fair I am comparing apples and oranges because the Sony Oled obviously excelled at dark room viewing because the black colors got inky black and didn't leave as much of a halo or bloom effect. But the Hisense does an incredible job with its local dimming features that the blacks look amazing for a LED tv. Since the Sony cost about 5 times more this was an easy choice

Hisense H9G
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A replacement for a Vizio M series TV from three years ago and, despite being the same price, a large step up. Impressive black levels. Even better brightness. HDR can be downright stunning. Only weakness is motion stutter. But this would appear to be unavoidable in any display with a fast response time. Fortunately the motion control function allows you to correct the problem with minimal soap opera effect. Can't imagine a better TV anywhere near the price point.

Good Picture, Good Value
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture quality of this 55" Hisense H9G TV is very good, comparable to a high-end QLED Samsung I bought 5 years ago (a first generation HDR-capable model). One area where the H9G is noticeably better is that it can get MUCH brighter (hurt your eyes bright) and I actually needed to dial it back a bit for our dark room viewing environment. I'm still playing around with picture settings (there are many) to optimize but when checked against a calibration Blue-Ray disc I own it was pretty darn close out of the box. The built-in speakers are a little disappointing with only marginal bass response, but do a great job with dialogue and are fine for most ordinary television viewing. If you are an action movie watcher or plan to stream music using the TV, you will probably want to connect to an AV receiver or sound bar for a more satisfying experience. A very brief quick-start guide is included in the box - enough to get you connected and watching - but you need to go to the Hisense web site to download the full manual, and even that is kind of sparse. There are many TV menu options that are visible but not selectable, probably because of other menu settings, but the manual does a poor job of explaining this. Overall this is a very good TV for the price and it compares well against major brand competitors that cost hundreds more.

Best TV in this Price Point - After Some Adjusting
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I researched TVs for a few weeks before pulling the trigger on the H9G, watching various YouTube videos, going on AV forums, and looking at rtings reviews. Each of these reviewers had different opinions, but aggregating their thoughts revealed clear strengths and weaknesses that were consistent between sources. Perhaps most importantly, the majority say that this is likely the best TV you can get for under $1,000. The picture quality is amazing, but you may have to adjust some things first. Do not use default settings. First, when you go into settings, make sure you have it so the settings are for ALL your sources, not just your current source (Netflix, HBO, etc. are all considered individual sources), as you want your settings to be uniform for the most part. Most people do not prefer the "soap opera effect," so unless you exclusively watch sports and video (i.e. not film), turn off all the motion smoothing stuff: Motion clearness (off); motion enhancement (off); digital noise reduction (off); pretty much...turn of most of the defaults. I (and most others) have found that either Theater Night (if you tend to watch at night or in darker rooms) or Theater Day is the best setting. Keep color temp as lower or medium low, as TVs tend to default to a colder bluish hue. Most importantly in my opinion, and this may sound like sacrilege, if you're using something like an Apple TV with additional video options, do NOT use HDR as a default. Instead, use 4K SDR and if you want, have it automatically switch to HDR if the source you're watching uses it. Otherwise, it'll artificially process SDR stuff to HDR, and it ends up looking weird. I have some stuff that supports HDR, but even then, I preferred the SDR. I think that to truly bring out and great HDR experience, you'll need a better TV (like an OLED). As such, I've kept everything as SDR. Dolby Vision? That also looked weird, and from what I've heard, it's mostly marketing hype. I ALMOST returned this TV because things looked...I dunno, artificially clear? Like...I want my films to look like films. This was even with all the motion stuff turned off. I thought I was going crazy because I was like, "this is capable to 4K HDR, so I should like this, right? After doing more research on HDR vs SDR, I set to it 4K SDR, everything looked AMAZING. Look, I'm not a professional calibrator or anything, so take my input with a grain of salt. All I know that I've messed with the settings for a long time comparing different things, and I listened to a bunch of AV enthusiasts. After I decided that I didn't need to use all the HDR/Dolby Vision bells and whistles, I love it. Is this as good as a $2,500+ TV. No. Some negatives: the banding around colors can be bad, there's some blooming (e.g. white lettering over a black background may have a slight halo), and some motion artifacts occasionally, but these are relatively minor in my opinion, and you are going to pay WAY more to address such issues. Also, this is my second H9G. The first one I got didn't come with a power cable or screws for the stand. I don't know if this is due to poor quality control, or if it was just a total fluke. I was able to exchange it and the new one came with everything I needed. One last positive: the sound for this TV is excellent. It's not going to be as good as a separate sound bar, but if you don't want to buy a soundbar, the native speakers are pretty darn good in my opinion.

What a TV
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.WOW...right from the box the picture is amazing and the motion is great. I played with the setting just a little and made the picture even better. The blacks and very deep and the color is great. I have the TV on the wall in my bedroom with is dark and makes the colors pop even more. Compared to other expensive models (Samsung, LG and Sony) I would go with the Hisense over any of them. I watched a Nascar race and the motion is out of this world. Very clear motion even with normal tv shows. I can't wait for hockey season. If you looking for a great TV, this is it!!!! You will not be disappointed.

Best TV for the money
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Originally bought a Vizio M-series (M558-G1) really good picture (not super bright for HDR), returned it because of dead pixels, also didnt like the smartcast OS. Got this H9G, WAY better picture and HDR highlights. Bright colors pop. Love the Android platform, coming from roku, its kind of similar, but has WAY more features and games (which my son loves). Built in google assistant is nice. The design is amazing as well, almost no bezel around the screen. Only negative is motion is a little juddery, even though its 120 hz, but not too bad. I would compare this easily to the Samsung Q80 or Q90. Each TV has its strengths and weaknesses. But for the price this is by far the best choice. I give it 4.7 out of 5.

Great but has soundbar issue in certain apps.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this TV after doing some research on an affordable 55" with 4k and bright screen for my living room. It looks great in my setup and the picture is fantastic even in my bright living room. We watch a wide range of content and apps with little issue. The only issue I have is that there is a known issue when you use a sound bar via the optical audio cable and in certain apps. For some reason the audio becomes really poor, nearly a single channel, in apps like HBO Max and Disney+. This does not occur in other apps nor when you connect the sound bar via HDMI arc. I had an older sound bar that I had to upgrade separately to fix this issue. Now that I have it connected via HDMI arc the issue is gone. Not ideal for those who do not have a sound bar with HDMI arc and plan to use the onboard apps. Lastly, I'll also say that the documentation is really lacking. The included instructions will get you going but beyond basic functionality, you will need YouTube or user forums to know what the majority of the settings actually do. It took me a few days and posts to realize that you could turn off (instead of just standby) by holding down the power button. Really should've been covered in the quick start guide.

Impressive TV especially for its price!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m amazed by this TV and yes, the hype is real. I’ll start first by saying that I’m coming from a 2015 LED Sony and while the Sony was a great TV, it’s phoned in HDR was underwhelming. The HDR on the H9G is astonishing. With its Full Array Local Dimming and 1000 Nits Peak Brightness, watching films with Dolby Vision is breathtaking. I’m still tinkering with picture settings and the motion enhancements, but after an hour or so researching and reading forums, I think I found the sweet spot! I highly recommend using Custom Motion Enhancements with Judder Reduction set at 1 or 0 and Blur Reduction set at 10. The motions were distracting when they were set OFF and all other Motion settings created the dreadful “Soap Opera Effect”. And speaking of Picture Settings most of the default settings are decent, I’m just not a fan of extra Warm Colors so for Color Temperature I use Mid-Low which provides a nice mix of Cool and Warm Colors. Also the Android system is nice. Its smart capabilities and user interface is very similar to Sony’s since they use Android as well for their TV models. As for gaming, it is also really impressive. You can play 4K at 60hz which is great, and I’d highly suggest gaming in Game mode. Anything outside of Game mode has horrible input lag. Overall this model is awesome especially for its value. Personally this TV from Hisense feels like a Mid Level model at $1000 or more so for almost half the cost, it’s mind boggling what you get for this price. Hisense has successfully converted a Sony TV loyalist with this superb supposed “budget” model!

Good for the Price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This seems like a good tv for the price. The panel gets bright, the colors are vibrant, and coming from a regular HDTV, the 4K resolution and HDR capabilities are nice to have. I was impressed by the black-level quality—even in comparison to OLED panels, and the viewing angles are good for the type of LCD panel it sports. The user interface could be more intuitive—the default system keyboard is alphabetical, for example. Also, the interface just feels sooo sluggish compared to every other piece of tech I own. There’s a slight, but frustratingly noticeable delay between button presses and what happens on the screen. It feels a bit more responsive if you turn off system sounds in settings. Honestly, my microwave feels more responsive. Aesthetically, it’s very nice. The bezels on three sides are almost nonexistent and the bottom bezel fits the design. It’s a relatively thin panel with a tapered edge design that makes it look thinner from most angles Overall, I’d say the benefits of this TV outweigh its drawbacks. In short, buy this TV if you’re looking for a TV with great features and compatibility at its price point. Don’t buy this TV if you’re expecting to be blown away by the ultra high-end features and picture quality that you would get for a TV twice it’s price.

Beautiful TV With One Glaring Issue
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really beautiful picture and great black levels for a very low price, with one major issue: how it handles motion Apparently this is a very luck-based thing with regard to their quality control and panels, but in all 3 models I had tried, the TV had horrible ghosting and motion blur for black/blue, red, yellow, and green colors. This wouldn't have been too bad if the TV wasn't mostly going to be used for gaming. It's incredibly noticeable regardless of what title you play. If you can get over that, this is absolutely hands-down the BEST TV for the price/on a budget, and the OS was fun to use as well. It's a shame about the motion issues, because otherwise I would absolutely recommend this TV.
