Customers admire the 55" Class U8 Series Mini-LED 4K UHD QLED Smart Google TV (2024)'s exceptional picture quality, vibrant colors, and deep black levels, often comparing it favorably to higher-priced OLED TVs. Many appreciate the ease of use and the smooth refresh rate, particularly for gaming. However, some users note limitations in the viewing angle and brightness consistency. The price point is frequently cited as a significant advantage.

I really like this tv. It offers great value for the price and supports everything some of the highest end tvs offer. The 2 year warranty makes me feel better about taking a chance with a new brand.

TV has a good picture most of the time. Trouble is when scenes are dark or have a heavy black background the picture is terrible. Have contacted Hisense support but haven’t heard back. Want to return for refund

I'm very disappointed with the processing speed. You Tube takes about 30 seconds to load and oftentimes (40% of the time) you have to "force stop" and reload. Turned off AI (precessor intensive) and deleted apps to free up dedicated memory to no avail. I've heard only a ruku fixes this. I'm very disappointed and now I'm stuck with this never a Hisense again!

Words cant describe how impressive this TV is. I was looking to replace a TV I had in my bedroom. My living room and basement have OLEDs but was looking to go in a different direction as my bedroom TV was an android TV and was hoping to replace it with another android TV, I just didn't find a need to have a OLED in my bedroom. I cant believe how different android TV is, I didn't realize how the software on my previous one was capped and that there was an entire different interface/experience. What a joy to use now. Everything Is significantly fluid and fast. I am not sure what chip they have powering this thing but it has handled going back and forth through multiple apps without a single hiccup. Hands free with google voice works great too, overall the software and customization is top notch.
Now onto the visuals. Wow. Just wow. As I stated, I have two OLEDS and this U8 competes with them quite well and honestly, feel like it even one ups them in certain situations. The screen is absolutely beautiful, the colors pop, the details are incredible. If you utilize a lot of streaming apps with 4k HDR 10 Dolby vision content, this TV showcases whatever your watching at an absolutely peak visual. I watched some documentary on Disney+ and animals and scenery were breathtaking. Started streaming Amazon Primes new Fallout series and its beautiful. Hisense provides so many options that best suits your visual desires and needs through settings.
Not only does this TV excel visually, but the sound is phenomenal. These have to be the best built in speakers I've had on a TV and even offer a nice little bass to it.
The remote is quite sharp too. I really like how the buttons on the remote light up when you pick it up. The remote, as well as the TV, has a microphone on it to utilize google assistant.
I cant speak on gaming, but the TV has everything you want for gaming purposes for next gen consoles. I haven't played video games in awhile but hoping to move my series x from the basement to bedroom to get a little action in soon. I have no doubt that gaming will be superb.
Everything was incredibly easy to set up, assembling the TV and adding all my accounts across all streaming platforms, I can't believe how quick I had everything up and running and ready to go. One of the most seamless TV set ups I've ever experienced.
If you're in the market for a new TV and don't want to break the bank, Hisense packs everything you need here and you will not be disappointed. I don't think you can get a better TV for the price. This is a powerful TV in every measure. Screen, sound, software, customization. I am extremely blown away.

Looked great for the first 3 weeks, then it developed a blob in the image. No response from Hisense. I've submitted 4 "tickets" online and called several times, the Hisense IVR is a joke. It literally hangs up on you after it tells you to "reboot".

First the good. Since it has Google TV, I can now easily cast from my Google phone. The black levels compare favorably with my three-year-old LG C1 OLED. The menu interface is fairly easy to navigate. Colors pop. The game mode with my Xbox Series X seems to work well. Latency is within acceptable limits. The quality of the built-in speakers is nice. But I will still add a sound bar at some point down the line.
Now the bad. The Google TV interface is bloated. Way too much going on. My wife hates it. So I have a Roku dongle hooked up to it, but it doesn't support all the video modes that Google TV does. The viewing angles are not that good, especially when I compare to my LG C1 OLED. They are acceptable, but I almost considered returning it to get the LG C4 OLED, but that is almost twice the cost. Please, please, please, will some manufacturer not enable all the video processing right out of the box. I do not like the soap opera effect. Had to go in and turn off all processing under the Clarity settings. Why can't they ask on first boot up what kind of viewer you are and then optimize the settings for that viewer? Settings have gotten so technical these days, and the lack of documentation is appalling from the manufacturer. Not to mention the tech support. Sent an email with some questions five days ago, still no response. Please, please please have your engineers right some good doc on the picture settings and make that available to buyers. Web search on settings returned a lot of content but seemed to be geared towards older version. Also note that all reviews are for the 65 inch version, which has a different panel apparently than the 55 inch version, so take them with a grain of salt.
In short, I would probably buy this again as it was on sale, but if the price differential was smaller between this and an OLED, I would go with the OLED.

Great TV picture for the money!

Great TV picture for the money, especially if you have it in a bright room. But, you may want to have a better media streamer, this one’s built in OS is a bit laggy to navigate through.
Picture quality is a step up from a Sony X900H I own that is 3 years old, however even that older TV’s operating system based on google TV is faster than this google based OS TV. It TV OS isn’t super slow, but it is slow enough that coming from anything Sony and LG have made in the last 3 years will feel slower. I also own a 3 year old LG C1 whose operating system feels faster to me. I suspect Hisense is using a slower processor built into the TV to cut down on costs. I also have an Nvidia Shield, and that runs great on this TV. For me, this will be the way I will do all my media streaming, as it is just significantly faster than the built in Hisense apps running on Google TV. I wish the built in hardware ran faster. I suspect the built in OS runs slower because of the million ads you get while on the Google TV OS, which unfortunately is a lot.
Now, on actually running native Amazon Prime 4K on the built in Hisense Google TV OS, it does look great when showing 4K HDR content. It gets really bright, much brighter than a LG C1 OLED TV I have, and compared to my Sony X900H, a LED based TV (though not mini-LED of this Hisense) it has much better local dimming, as this TV has a lot more dimming zones inside, and each LED light is smaller, hence the name “mini-LED”. So what I get here on this U8N is far less backlight blooming when there is a lot of contrast on the screen. This TV does look fantastic when it comes to how bright it can get for sure, butI still think it is behind in overall black levels available in OLED TVs which are literally INK BLACK. However OLED TVs are not a great option if you watch tv in bright rooms, as they do not get bright enough. This TV is perfect for bright rooms, and you will not have to worry about burn in like you do on OLED based displays.
Another great step up from other TVs in my home are the built-in speakers on this year’s 55UN8. There is more bass on this TV than either of my other more expensive TVs. It won’t replace a decent soundbar, but it does sound better than built-in speakers from TVs I have in the home that are from 3 years ago.
This TV also comes with what I think is a great remote. It is the perfect size and looks great.
Overall, for the money, this is a great TV for most people that want a really good picture, and especially that want that in a bright sunlit room! Just keep in mind you may want to opt for a better media streamer like an AppleTV or a Nvidia Shield.

I started using a Hisense television in our living room a couple years ago, and have been impressed with the design, functionality and quality ever since. It’s a great television that has performed perfectly for the past two years without any issues. When the new 55” U8N became available I knew it would be the perfect TV to replace my fifteen year old TV that I use in the bedroom.
The new Hisense was shipped to me using a third-party delivery service who called to schedule a drop-off time that was convenient for me. They were nice, arrived on time, and helped me to carry the box into my garage. The TV comes packed in a standard heavy cardboard box with molded styrofoam inserts to keep it protected during shipping. The total package weight was only about 55lbs, so I was able to carry it into my house and up my stairs by myself.
Unboxing the TV is easy and I was able to do it alone. Since I’m using the included stand I had to place the TV face down on a clean, soft and flat surface to attach the stand. I chose to use my bed, where I placed the large, foam enforced cardboard screen cover that came in the box, on my bed, and placed the TV onto that. I let the bottom couple of inches hang over the edge of the bed so that I could use the included screws to secure each base stand tightly. Once the stand was attached I set it up onto my dresser and proceeded to remove all of the cling-wrap from the edge, front and sides of the TV, which is always a satisfying process.
Getting the TV setup is almost effortless with Google, my preferred setup method. While you can also utilize the remote for TV setup, given my existing Google account and devices like Google TV and Google Home, it was only logical for me to opt for Google for this task as well. Set up only took a few minutes, and once complete, the TV is ready to customize with your favorite apps, screensaver, different user accounts, content preferences and more!
Once the TV is fully set up it’s ready to provide endless hours of content viewing. It’s always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the settings menu and tailor some of the available options, such as the apps you utilize, channels and inputs, accounts, services, as well as picture and sound settings, among others. This TV can do a lot without being overwhelming or confusing. Its menus and navigation are designed to be user-friendly and straightforward. Hisense did a great job making this TV a delight to use for anyone.
I’m not going to go on for too long about all of the tech packed into this television, it’s all listed in the product features and it all works amazingly well to bring you a high-quality display at a great price and a well-built TV that’s sure to last for many years. From the Mini-LED display with 4k resolution and a gaming ready 144Hz refresh rate to the QLED quantum dot color, Dolby Vision Atmos and more, it’s obvious that this TV is built to compete with the top brands on the market. Watching 4k content on this display is an eye-popping and immersive experience! Just pull up some 4K HDR high frame rate videos on YouTube, lean back, and immerse yourself as if you're truly there. From the majestic landscapes of Scotland to the bustling streets of NYC, from expansive starscapes to the depths of the ocean, this TV will transport you like never before. And if you are a gamer, get ready for the 144Hz Game Mode Pro experience on a 55” screen, you’re gonna love it! Products like this television are what elevate the Hisense brand to that top tier, earning them recognition from major franchises like the NBA! Hisense's status as the official television of the NBA is an impressive testament to their excellence, clearly demonstrated by products like the U8N.
Using the TV is an enjoyable experience, enhanced by the newly designed bluetooth remote, which is a vast improvement over the previous one that came with my 75” Hisense U8H a couple years ago. The new U8N remote is stylishly designed with a silver wood grain plastic on top and silver colored plastic on the backside. As soon as you pick up the remote, the buttons illuminate, providing excellent visibility even in low-light conditions. The remote has quick access buttons to some of your most used apps like YouTube, Prive Video, Netflix and more. There is also a Google assistant button that you can use for voice control and hands free control of the television. The remote has a nice flat back that allows you press buttons without needing to pick up the remote. One of your most frequently used buttons will be the Home button, which displays the Google TV “For You” tab, otherwise known as the home page.
In my opinion, the Google TV operating system is the best television OS I’ve ever used. The more you use it, the better it gets. The home page is constantly updating with new content chosen for you by Google and based on content you’ve already started watching and/or have shown interest in watching, along with top trending content suggestions. The home page starts with a banner displaying new and trending shows and movies. Next is a list of top-picks, TV shows and movies that Google thinks you would like from your currently installed apps and/or free apps. Just below the Top-Picks is the Apps section where you can choose from apps you have downloaded or modify your list. Further down on the home page you will find a Continue Watching section, where you can pick up where you left off watching from any app you have installed. It’s a super handy feature and I use it all the time. As you navigate towards the bottom of the home page you’ll find many more viewing recommendations based on the services you use and have installed, along with other new and trending content and genre based suggestions.
The next page is the Live tab where you can choose from 125 channels via Google TV, a free live tv service, or choose from an aggregate list of hundreds of other live channels available from free apps that you can install or are already installed. I think this is a great option for anyone who enjoys flipping through the channels and is looking for a free alternative to cable.
After the Live tab, the Apps tab is where you go to customize the apps you have installed on the TV and choose from hundreds of apps to install, using the Google search or the preselected categories to help you find something. You can choose from entertainment, music, tools, news, education, health & fitness apps and more.
The final page is the Library tab where you can see a list of content that you’ve purchased from any content providers that you have installed on the television. I don’t use this section too often, but it does have a watchlist section where I can add anything that I discover from TV, mobile or web, which is pretty cool and something I’ll have to start using.
Overall, the U8N is a very well built television with all the specs I’ll ever need. It gets super bright at peak 1500 nits and the Mini-LED pro creates a brighter image with greater contrast than traditional LED screens. Gaming on this TV is a treat with the 144Hz Game Mode Pro, AMD FreeSync and the Game Bar that lets you easily customize the gaming settings for a better experience. The built in 50w max, 5-speaker, 2.1.2 multi-channel surround sound, sounds really good. It actually sounds much better than some of the smaller soundbars on the market, eliminating the need to buy one. I’m once again impressed with the Hisense brand and I’m really happy that I got this TV. I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a new, dependable television with impressive specs and an affordable price.

I got this tv to replace a TCL F35 that had just died after 10 months. Got this home and set up and as soon as I turned on my xbox, I was blown away. Sure my other tv was 4k but the refresh rate made everything so much smoother. The color is incredible and the screen is bright with some solid black levels to go with that. I jumped onto my pc after that and again, I was amazed. I have my GPU set at 1440/120 and its ridiculous how good it looks. I have a friend that has a U7 and this was cheaper so I took his recommendation to get it and I am not disappointed at all. The sound is pretty good as well. The speakers have good volume. I often find them to be loud even at 6. It also has a little subwoofer on the back of the tv which when mounted on the wall, puts out some good bass and it has a separate volume level in the settings so I have it turned up a bit. If you can get this tv, get it. I have also watched some netflix on it and the refresh once again makes everything look that much better.

A nice 4K mini led tv, with limited viewing angles

This in my opinion a great TV for a bedroom or room where everyone watching it sits directly in front of the TV, as the more off angle you view the TV the worse the picture becomes since the panel is VA.
I gave this 55" mini led tv installed on my wall in my master bedroom, and I sit about 12' away from it directly in front of it, and it looks beautiful. If I sit in my recliner, in my bay window about 5' of to the side the picture is washed out leaving the colors dull and the picture lifeless.
This mini led 4k tv with full array local dimming can get super bright, day or night. I do not use the ambient light sensor as I like the picture to be as accurate as possible regardless of night or daytime viewing. I will say during nighttime usage this TV is a torch during bright scenes or shows. There is definitely some blooming during dark scenes around a bright object, although it's not what I'd consider distracting.
If your watching this tv straight ahead you will not be disappointed for the price. The tv has 4 HDMI inputs, 2 capable of 4k 60 hz for a 4k Blu-ray player or streaming device, and 2 capable of 4k 120 hz for say a PS5 or Xbox X. Plenty of HDMI inputs if your not using a avr with this tv.
The built in speakers and small sub on this U8N sound amazing for such a smaller tv, in my opinion it sounds as good if not better than using a separate sound bar and subwoofer. Watching Top gun Maverick in 4K on a 4K Blu-ray sounded incredible for a tvs built in speakers.
I would highly recommend getting this TV if you want want OLED colors on a mini led budget.

So absolutely phenomenal that this is a full array local dimming set. Add to that the 1500 nits of brightness and you've got a pretty great recipe for bright rooms/locations near windows. Out of all things though I was honestly surprised with the speakers. You don't generally get a lot of oomph from tv speakers but reading through the specs it looks like this has been upgraded over last years with 50W - 5 speaker system. That's readily apparent when you start watching movies as for most tvs I'd run the speakers at 60 of 100, but on the U8 I was good with about 28/100. Overall movies were enjoyable with no noticeable smearing and everything looked crisp. If you utilize 1080p content, there's definitely some roughness around the edges of items and especially text but if you're investing in this TV you'll definitely want 4k streaming.
The other place this TV shines is in gaming. I quickly hooked up my PS5 and due to the higher refresh rate really enjoyed playing on this versus my normal gaming TV. Everything was much smoother and was just that much more satisfying. For anyone looking for a new set for their gaming setup or splurging for a TV with a gaming console, you can't do much better than this set without spending a lot more money for an OLED.
Overall it was an ease to setup and I even ended up using the native TV streaming apps due to the distance from my router. My new 4k fire stick couldn't quite connect but the TV's internal apps were quick to sign in and streamed perfectly. Probably due to the upgraded wifi internals!

This TV is great for the price. I was searching for a TV with all the same features as this one so it checked all the boxes for me.
I don’t use the smart TV feature so I can not comment on that as I just skip that on setup and never connect the TV directly to internet. We use an Apple TV instead. The picture is great and when set to viivid HDR and full brightness it’s almost hard to look at because it is so vibrant. At normal HDR and brightness levels is picture is crisp and clear, the dimming zones work well. The speakers in the TV are decent too if you aren’t used to fancy sound bars or whole room setups.
Only downside is the viewing angles can be little harsh if sitting too far to the sides of the TV. Not unwatchable just noticeable.

It's very bright, it's very punchy and vivid. Google TV is good. I have the 55" model, and I have seen many people complaining about the dimming zones on this specific size. For me, a person who watches movies and TV shows a lot, the local dimming and black levels are extraordinary. You would mistake this for an OLED if you didn't know beforehand. 10/10, can't recommend another TV more.

Stream Dolby Vision & HDR Content

The Hisense 55” 4K TV is working great in my living room where I have it connected via HDMI to a PlayStation, a Flex Box, a Nintendo Switch, and a soundbar (HDMI ARC). I watch TV daily and was in the market to upgrade from a 50” to 55” TV screen. I’m enjoying the 4K & generally high resolution view on both Streaming & live TV. I was able to access Dolby Vision and HDR content on Disney+ and found that going through the Picture Mode settings was crucial for me to have the most enjoyable watching experience. Colors and contrast look good on Dolby Vision Dark mode. As for live TV, I had access to the HD version of standard channels which is nice.
Picture Modes
Dolby Vision Dark setting is my favorite because the colors are crisp, the contrast is good, and the brightness is just a little lower than usual, which is ideal for me since I prefer the brightness to be lower. The Dolby Vision IQ default setting makes things look washed out and hazy. On top of that, the blacks in the picture turn off the LEDs completely which cause strong banding on the fall off of light - very distracting and not ideal for watching animation.
The general Picture settings when watching Standard or High Definition actually have a good default setting, the Energy Saving picture mode is great in my opinion. Other modes include PC/Game, Sports, Vivid, and Theater modes.
Setup & Hardware
This 55” TV is best handled by two people. Assembling the base/feet to the TV was quick and easy. Powering up takes a little time to get through all the smart settings, wifi setup, etc. The remote has quick buttons to access Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+, and Tubi as well as a dedicated button to Google Assistant. The TV itself has access to more streaming services besides the ones with a dedicated button.
Overall
I’m pleased with this Hisense TV and will continue to use it daily. I like that it has enough inputs for all my HDMI devices. The small downsides include the Dolby Vision IQ setting which can be changed, as well as the USB port not accepting my 128GB SanDisk USB drive. The TV says the USB drive is corrupt, but it’s probably just not formatted the way the TV wants it to be - it works fine on my computer and at the end of the day, I can just plug it into my PlayStation to access the files.

We were lucky enough to get the TV Open Box. The TV was marked as good, but there were no issues with it, and I would say it was in perfect condition. The only thing that was missing was the original box.
The TV is amazing. Don't let some reviews sway your decision when they say the TV isn't bright enough. The TV is plenty bright. The color is great. The TV menu runs smooth. The TV has really good sound. It has way better sound than some of the more expensive TV's that we own. We have not experienced any issues with the TV dropping the Wi-Fi signal yet. So far we are happy with our purchase and glad we were able to save a few bucks.

First time buying something other than a Sammy or a Sony and so far I am very pleased. I had to return my first purchase because the back light went out. It happened on day 13 so I just made the return window. So I purchased Best Buy plus and the the warranty ( which I originally purchased anyhow). But the blacks are black and the color is bright.although some times I do see a washed out look. Only when playing ps5 games every once in a while.

Amazing TV, was using my old 1080p 55" from 2014 and was in dire need of an upgrade. The difference is like night and day, the colors pop so much and the refresh rate is amazing for gaming and movies/shows. The price was affordable too, glad I caught it on sale on the Best Buy site!
