Excellent Budget Friendly TV
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the 4k LED TV market, the H8G is a very comprable choice, especially when compared to the top of the lines LG and Samsungs. While you may not get the wow factor of an extremely thin TV, or the best HDR visuals, you will still be impressed with what the H8G can provide at budget friendly price. To kick things off, the TV comes packaged very well like most TV's nowadays. You will have to search a little for the stands - I had thought they were missing but turns out they were hiding under the styrofoam. Setting up is extremely easy, provided that you have an android phone with a google account. Thanks to the way Android functions, I'm able to access all my entertainment apps from my phone (youtube, google play, netflix, etc...) on the TV and it is already synced with my account. There is Google assistant integrated, but you have to talk to your remote so it's not as accessible as something like Google Home. There is also built in chromecast if you do not wish to use the android system provided by the TV. Moving on, the visuals on the TV are very impressive. If you've ever found yourself stopping and admiring the quality of 4k HDR videos at the store, then you will find yourself doing the same on this TV. Seriously, it is mind boggling how sharp the images are, and how vibrant the colors can get. There is an auto brightness setting that I found to be very useful so that I'm not blinded at night. However, you may of to turn this off if you prefer the sharpness of the colors at 100%. As for reflections, this TV does above average. If the LG has faint reflections when you look hard enough, this TV will reflect some light from your windows or ceiling lights. Many times though you will not notice because of how bright this TV can get. The sound from this TV is also decent. It is nothing to write home about, but better than most TV's I have experienced the past. Overall, the H8G rides the line before decreasing marginal benefits start occurring with more expensive options. It produces high quality at a price that many can agree with. If you've been on the fence about spending a couple thousand on a 4K HDR TV, you might want to give the H8G a chance.

Discolored screen
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This tv was purchased on May 31, 2020. The picture was nice and sharp and the colors were just beautiful but at around one and a half years later the screen developed 3 large dark yellow/brown spots across the middle of it. The defect is glaringly obvious when watching black and white films but it's noticeable during pretty much any show/movie, most especially those scenes with a light background. I realize this was an inexpensive television but I expected it to last more than 1 1/2 years before developing such issues.

Okay quality Tv, requires A lot time for settings
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 1st tv I received the screen was broken end to end. A new one was delivered at first the quality of the picture was poor. It took a few days of rearranging the settings to finally get the most out of it. You get what you pay for. It was a cheap tv and the Quality is cheap.

Best for price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great tv for the price. Color out of the box are not very intuitive, you need to do some color calibration to get perfect colors. And after that it’s just awesome tv.

Bad quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TV out from the box, set it up, and a black vertical line appears on the right hand side of the screen. Pack it all back in the box and take back to BestBuy. Never HiSense again....

Better Than Expected
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Full disclosure up front, I am a pretty die hard Sony fan when it comes to TVs so I am sure that biased my expectations of the Hisense 65" H8G. Let me just immediately put that to rest and say I was pleasantly surprised by what Hisense is offering at this price point. I have been using a Sony 950G in my bedroom for the last few months and the Hisense H8G gets shockingly close to the performance for a fraction of the price. The full array local dimming (FALD) on the set provides great black level and contrast and blooming is minimized thanks to good zone control. Black bars on widescreen material do tend to gray out some when bright images are presented at the boundaries, but even the best FALD TVs tend to suffer from this. Color is great and not over exaggerated or 'hot' out of the box. HDR10 content has great contrast and color volume looks better than expected. I was not able to test the Dolby Vision output of the TV, but given the HDR10 performance I would expect similar results. The only real shortcoming I found in the picture was the motion control. In any setting other than off it presented either an overly smooth image or exhibited artifacting such as macro-blocking. I found simply turning off all motion control gave the best overall picture. Sound is above average which was also a surprise. The H8G offers a fairly balanced, clear sound that is a tad thin on the bottom end. The mediocre bass performance was to be expected as most TVs today suffer from this ailment. Simply physics at work. The H8G is AndroidTV based which means there are a plethora of apps to choose from. Overall speed is acceptable and the (assumed Mediatek?) processor exhibits minimal lag. Only real caveat I have run into with the H8G is the Wi-Fi performance. I am running the latest update from Hisense and am finding I have to reboot the TV every few days as the Wi-Fi becomes very sluggish or sometimes simply will not reconnect to the network. Not a major issue, but definitely an annoyance. If you are running an external box such as an Apple TV or Nvidia Shield this will be a non-issue. To be honest, the H8G greatly exceeded my albeit low expectations. The big boys like Sony and Samsung need to watch their backs. Hisense has brought a terrific value to the market with the H8G that will satisfy all but the most demanding videophile. If you are in the market for a fully featured, 4K HDR/Dolby Vision capable TV then this TV should be on your shortlist. Highly recommended.

Good, but maybe ready for an update already
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are a lot of advantages to the Android TV OS, but some of the features need a little more polish. Right out of the box, setup was easy because I could use my existing Google account. I didn't even need to setup voice recognition - which caused its own problems. Trying to search using voice within apps was not working until I tried using the Google Assistant, at which point I was prompted to pair the remote using Bluetooth for voice commands to work. Had I not short-circuited that step by porting over my settings, I might have avoided the initial search issues. Along with the Google account transfer came some, but not all, of my passwords. I wouldn't necessarily expect everything to come over because some of that depends on the app developer, but I would have expected YouTube TV to already have my account info, which it did not. Some apps seemed ready to go out of the box, and others seem to need more development. For example, Vudu is not showing the lists feature, which is relatively new, but very useful if you have a large library. Other apps seemed to have issues with specific content. For example, Google Play could not stream one of the movies in my library but worked fine with other content. Oddly enough, the Starz app, which gives me all kinds of headaches on other platforms, has been working flawlessly on this TV. Being an Android TV, there is also support for games, but sadly, not enough storage to accommodate them. I had to uninstall the one game I put on there because otherwise, there wasn't enough room for all my streaming apps. I also was sad to see that Stadia is not supported yet. Even though there is Chromecast "built-in," I still have to plug a Chromecast dongle into one the HDMI ports to use Stadia. Operating system aside, the picture is quite good. It appeared a little washed out until I adjusted the settings, but there are plenty of preset options to choose from. Most of the shortcomings that exist can be corrected with app and OS updates, but even out of the box, Android TV has advantages over most of the other platforms.

Issues before 6 months
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You get what you pay for but it’s not cheap. For the most part this tv is fine. But if anything gone wrong with the TV then you have to reset the whole TV. This includes changing the picture settings or if an app isn’t working. The hisense customer service is complete garbage and of no use. I do not recommend this product and I love a good deal and deal with some nuisances.
