Outstanding Picture with Upgraded Audio
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Design The first thing I noticed when unboxing was that this years U8 is very boxy compared to previous years. Seems like Hisense is moving away from trying to make a slim looking TV and instead making a brick to accommodate better audio. The 65" is on a pedestal stand which overall is pretty solid. It has two height adjustments and includes a cover that allows hiding your cables if you want to run them down the back of the stand. I noticed once on the stand, the TV has a slight lean back which is a bit odd. It has speakers all the way down the side with nice looking subwoofer in the back. I love the new remote! Its the same as last years. Feels really good in hand with nice button layout. It looks metallic but don't let that fool you, its all plastic. The remote also has motion backlighting which is a nice touch. Display The panel on this 65" is a 4K QLED VA panel using mini LED with full array local dimming. They also bumped the native refresh rate to 165Hz. I ran some screen tests. I looked hard for any type of imperfection but I couldn't find any. No defects, bad pixels, cloudiness, banding, etc. Even with local dimming disabled the panel on this thing looks flawless. Very impressive! Picture Right out of the box the picture required minimal tweaking. While it offers several picture profiles, I found the standard mode to be a solid starting point. I did, however, adjust the color temperature to Warm 2. To my eyes, this struck the perfect balance, avoiding both overly warm and cool whites. As you would expect this thing is really bright. The backlight is set to 100%, which is fantastic for well-lit rooms, though you might consider dialing it down for darker environments. After these minor adjustments, the colors are wonderfully vibrant and accurate. And the black levels? Simply outstanding – it gets remarkably close to OLED territory. There is some AI picture and sound settings built in which is new. Its all disabled out of the box but if you turn it on its able to automatically adjust your picture and sound based on what you are watching. Sound This years U8 clearly prioritizes audio, a fact immediately apparent in its design. Hisense says it has 4.1.2 Multi-Channel Surround which means it has a few separate speakers built in and in the end will sound richer. I will say that the sound quality that comes from these speakers is the best I've heard for built in TV speakers but still not as good as a dedicated sound system. I would say its comparable to a mid tier soundbar. Personally, I found the sound to have a somewhat hollow quality across various profiles, though it did deliver a satisfying level of bass. This would work fine for a smaller room but its not going to fill a larger room. I did some blind audio comparisons and my soundbar still won every time. Software This set comes with Google TV which is my personal favorite smart TV platform. Its running Android version 14. With that you get a very large variety of supported apps and Google Assistant built in. This TV is extremely snappy! I've own a few Google TVs and this is the most responsive UI I've used to date. As you would expect its not completely stock though. Hisense has added some apps that you cant remove. All my favorite apps were available and installed quickly. Most of my viewing is online streaming and all apps worked flawlessly over wifi. Speaking of wifi, it has wifi 4, 5, 6, 6e but no 7 support this year. My one complaint here is if you use a external audio system via the earc hdmi port and enable passthrough on the TV, you no longer get the volume numbers when you adjust volume. Seems to be a software thing where they gave up trying to calculate what the volume level is at with external audio systems. Even if its not accurate it still would be nice to have some sort of indicator as to where you are. Would like to see this added back in future software update. Summary The Hisense U8QG is truly remarkable when stacked against pricier competitors. It really shines in several key areas. The picture quality is amazing, delivering a viewing experience you'd typically expect from a much more expensive set. Then you have the significantly upgraded audio this year. The motion backlight remote. And let's not forget a super smooth Google TV experience. For anyone seeking a superb LED TV without breaking the bank, the U8QG feels like an absolute steal. A high end TV in disguise.

Great TV!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TV is great! Super bright, love the OS. Mounted super easy with the right screws. The only issue I had was the delivery process. The TV is a chonker though, with about a 1 1/2inch thick back, but I think it's worth it as I don't care for the super thin tvs. Gaming is great, TV is great, movies are great. We do turn down the brightness at night as it can pump out the light.

Its a good one…
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.It’s been a bit since we got a new tv…and wow tech has exploded,….the picture quality is almost frightening! The scaling to 4K makes old X-Files episodes look like a new show! Sound quality is excellent…set up was a breeze. Very slight Color shift at extreme angles of viewing but not a deal breaker. And at an amazing price}

U8 is great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Hisense U8 does have a noticeably brighter and more defined picture than the U7. I have the 65" in both. Like both. But, the U8 is definitely an upgrade worth the extra $$$.
