8.1 score on rtings site has to be a mistake

I don't understand the hype for the hisense TVs but im pretty sure I got a weak panel. but if i got to do the panel lottery might as well pay more for the bigger more respected brands even they have that issue but not as much. i came from a Vizio M70-D3 that just started giving me issues. looks like i will keep hunting for a new TV.

Premium TV at reasonable price

If you are looking for a 4K UHD (3840x2160p) TV that won’t break the bank - this is the set for you. This is their “entry” level to their top-of-the-line U series – U6, U7, U8 and U9. Comes nicely boxed that, once you remove the 4 lock handles on the sides, allows TV to easily slide out. I would suggest having 2 people for unboxing and attaching the legs - I used a piece of Styrofoam from the packing to raise bottom of TV up to attach. This set gives you 2 options for leg attachment – outer and inner. Since I had a wide enough TV stand, I choose the outer as I felt it would be more stable - but having inner option allows it to fit on a smaller stand. Weighs a little over 63 lbs. and measures 41 inches tall, 66 inches wide and 14 inches deep - with stand. For those interested in wall mount it uses 600mm x 300mm VESA. Comes with basic setup and function descriptions. I could write pages and pages concerning all of the settings but would suggest going to Hisense site when registering and downloading the complete guide – it has a LOT of important. Has 4 4k inputs (1ST arc enabled), 2 USB 2.0 dc 5v – 0.5a, and AV in connections on left side of TV making it easy to use these connections if mounting to the wall. Straight out the back are connections for LAN (hard wired), digital audio out, headphone and a service jack. Power connection is on back right side again nice if wall mounting. There is no component/composite connection I guess AV in replaces this Positives; Easy to setup as TV presents step by step onscreen instructions to setup wifi and date/time. Supports 802.11ac 2.4GHz/5GHz wifi as well as hard wired LAN. I used both and was able to stream 4K content with no issues. I do have an AX mesh wifi system though which certainly helps. Picture quality is very subjective but with the wide array of settings/options you should be able to get it set to your personal liking. As for me I always turn off the auto backlight, contrast etc. as they just never seem to give me the consistent picture I want. This is no knock-on Hisense as I have wound up doing the same on all my TV’s. I did, however, find that turning the auto color space option on really enhanced the picture. I would really suggest going to Hisense site and downloading the full manual. Once I got the screen settings done the picture was very good watching 1080P HD Cox cable channels including football/baseball/indycar/F1 and movies. Since this TV has 60Hz response I was a tad worried about ratcheting/jittering/shadowing/etc. but everything I watched looked fine. Any 4K streamed content was great. Colors really pop. Also, when streaming some 4K content the TV automatically went into Dolby Vision Bright mode – which seemed to override all my settings - which was fine as the picture and sound were great. Opening an app seems to go very quickly – but can be impacted by internet/site usage, etc. I tried attaching a USB thumb drive and it didn’t automatically show up as an option to use/play. I had to go to the TV manual to find out another option was to go into apps then select media. USB then did show up., It played M2ts formatted videos with no problem and most had Dolby Digital audio which sounded pretty good using just TV speakers. Has several sound options for the around 13-watt internal speakers – which provide adequate sound, but I normally use soundbar. Remote is fairly well thought out with reasonably sized/tactile buttons. Has voice control which I found works well, sometimes – depends on what you are searching for. Has a nice “find me” button on TV that helps you find a “lost” remote. Comes with a lot of apps pre-installed and has an option to add more. It does use Google and is always reminding me to sign into my account. Screen looked good from all the angles we watch TV from. 1 year warranty Negatives I have a somewhat dark but semi-transparent “block” about 2 inches wide and maybe an inch tall in the top right and left corners of the screen. Depending on what you are watching it is more prevalent. I am a tad concerned but don’t feel its worth returning set for at this time. Since I have had a Hisense 60-inch 4K TV for over 3 years and have not had any issues I am hoping this doesn’t get any worse. But took a star off for it. Remote isn’t fluorescent nor does it have a “light” button – so not easy to use in dark room. Also doesn’t have an exit option on remote to get you directly back to screen. So, as you drill down thru the options you only have a back button which requires you to go back thru all the options to finally get to screen. Occasionally when using the cable remote for turning off the TV I get an off or restart option that can only be selected using the TV remote. Can’t quite figure out why as it is intermittent but after it happens when I turn the TV back on it goes to main screen not the input I had been watching. A tad irritating but not a huge deal. Overall, a worthy option and do recommend.
