The beginning of an amazing trilogy. Peter Jackson continues to deliver the best interpretation of Tolkein to the big screen. This film is the beginning of the Hobbit, of how Bilbo joined an quest and ended up with the one ring. Great film.

This is a movie that gets better with each viewing. I wasn't too sure I liked it all that much when I saw it in the theatre, but after watching the DVD, I am seeing all kinds of reasons to think of it as a fabulous movie!

I loved Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings as much as everyone else. However, don't expect the same out of his take on Tolkien's prequel. The production values, though slicker, don't quite impress as much and the story is stretched way too much. Even so, the fact remains that Jackson is a great director and he makes this a ton of fun. In the end, if you enjoy seeing Middle Earth on screen, you'll enjoy this.

    Even more epic in 3D

All three of the Hobbit movies were each epic in their own way, but if you have a 3D set up at home, it's definitely the way to go. It looks fantastic on a projection screen and the 3D is very well done as long as you have a good set of glasses.

Being a fan of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, I love seeing this book come to life in this movie and it does a decent job of staying true to the book. When they come out of the Hidden Pass and see Rivendell, It's like looking at a Brother's Hildebrandt painting come to life.

If you are a Lord of The Rings fan, you will definitely want to pick this up. Simply one of the best examples of 3D at home that you can get. The picture quality is amazing, the sound is also fantastic. If you are thinking about picking up this film.. Stop thinking and go get it.

    Why is this a trilogy?

I haven't read anything by Tolkien. I very much enjoyed the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Hobbit very much felt like those, but maybe not quite so dark and brooding. Some of the more intense action sequences were rather over-the-top bordering on goofy. Overall it was long and really not much happened in this first movie. It is hard to fault a movie for being too long especially when it is sci-fi or fantasy.

The Prequel to the Lord of The rings. I enjoyed the extended beginning, and how it makes a few more things clear. I will continue to watch the remainder of the movies. However they should do away with the short version of all the films, and just have the extended formats.

Just like he did with The Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson has released another wonderful movie full of all kinds of extras. While there are a few scenes that feel like they are only there to show off 3-D the movie is very well done and the special effects are incredibile.

This first part of the Hobbit story is well done. There is a great deal of background information woven into the stories traditional plot line. Add to this the wonderful visual quality of the sets and costumes, and you have a movie that will appeal to fantasy fans of all ages.

I really enjoyed this movie, more than I thought I would. I can't wait until the next one comes out! If you enjoyed Lord of the Rings, you must watch this movie. I got in 3D and it looks great! There are some "cheesy" parts in the movie, but overall you wont be disappointed.

I had been looking for quite a while when I finally found this. Before, all I could find was the $70 Limited Edition with the mini statue. That was more than I wanted to spend for just the movie. This was reasonable for a 3D film, only about $35 or so. Glad I found it.

I am a LOTR geek and it wasn't until I watched an interview with Lee Pace (Thranduil) that I got interested in The Hobbit. I'm so glad I purchased these movies, they are fantastic! And the BluRay is superb! I wish I had a 3D tv so I could watch that version too!

This is a very good movie for the Hobbit Lovers out there. Though it has been many years since I read the books, the movie seems to follow accurately while providing an adventure you can get lost in. Highly recommended to those who want an enjoyable fantasy movie.

If there was any doubt to his ability to pull off another set of movies like the Lord of the Ring trilogy, Peter Jackson puts it to rest. He has done a fantastic job and if you were wondering about the extended version being too long, it isn't. Unlike the first trilogy, Jackson only added no more than 10 minutes to this movie. If you haven't picked it up yet, do so now. You won't regret it.

I Love The Lord of the rings trilogy and the hobbit was just as good and was a great movie to start the new trilogy. The extended version is even better with the new screens. Can't wait for the other two movies. Will be waiting for the extended Blu-Ray combo packs

Wonderful movie. Suggest you only get the Blu-Ray version, extended version, as there are scenes in it to further explain the history of the Ring, and the history of the relationship between Gandolf and Bilbo. The movie is a little too long, but everyone knows this.

I'm a big fan of the extended edition of all movies in this series. Blue-ray audio and video quality are outstanding. The extras really provide a lot of extra insight into the story line. If you loved the Lord of the Rings trilogy, you have to get these too.

a great movie for everyone, the plot, cinematography, and acting is different from any other adventure/action movie, and that's what makes this one better, even though some differences exist between the movie and the book about the Hobbit, it is still a must see.

I loved the movie except the part in the beginning where they added some nonsense about a jewel. Since it was not in the book and they made such a big deal out of it. I'm guessing that in the final movie the patch of scales on Smog's chest will be covered by that jewel
