Peter Jackson has done it again.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you love Sci Fi and enjoyed the other 3 Peter Jackson movies of JJR Tolkien then you will really enjoy Smaug. We all know that PJ took a poet's license and committed a mortal sin of the purest but, hey, it all fits. JJR Tolkien would have been proud of PJ. His family is and endorsed the movie. So do I. You will really enjoy the Hobbit : Desolation of Smaug even if you didn't see the first Hobbit movie. Enjoy enjoy enjoy .

True to the original story, for a movie.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is an excellent portrayal in movie version of the original story. Light-years ahead of the original animated, but who to the original story certain milestone memorable moments like the trolls having their dialogue with the "burglar" and turning to at sunrise. The special effects are superb just as they were in the Lord of the rings trilogy. They enhance the story and bring it to life almost as much as reading the book.

A Knockout
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking for a fun ride peppered with a DRAGON, then you've come to the right movie. It picks up immediately after the first film, but changes the tone dramatically. It is a brisker pace, more humor, introduces a love story, introduces about a dozen new (yet important) characters, and sets up the final chapter well. The extras (as with all Jackson films) are abundant and amazing. Five dragon-sized stars!!

If you loved LOTR, you will love this movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have read Tolkien's classics and felt that he did a great job with the LOTR series. The Hobbit was originally a completely separate story, but Jackson found a way to infuse the two series together and even bring back characters from the original LOTR films. If you did not watch the LOTR trilogy (or read the books), I would suggest watching or reading them first. This will help you appreciate these films so much more... Note that if you read the Hobbit, there is a lot added, but actually adds to the rise of Mordur and the army of Sauron. If you know what I'm talking about, just watch the movie....It's a lot better than other D&D/fantasy films you see these days.

Another Winner
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you love J.R.R. Tolkien fan, you should enjoy this movie. There is some embellishment to the story but this adds to the overall excitement instead of detracting. If you are a Tolkien purist, then you did not enjoy part one and will not like this one either. The extras on the disc are enjoyable. The scenery is truly amazing. If you are looking for an enjoyable adventure fantasy tale, you have the right movie.

Awesome movie. Peter Jackson does it again.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found this to be much better than the first movie. The first Hobbit is a bit slow, but understandably because it's a lot of story. Special effects in the this movie were awesome. They did especially well with Smaug. Action was incredible and the cinematography was brilliant. Just like Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson brings a classic story to life. The soundtrack was fantastic as well. Another gem by Howard Shore.

2nd of The Hobbit Triology - Better Than The First
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The second in a trilogy of films - The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf and the Dwarves, on a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. The visual effects are much improved, the pace is seamless, and the danger is ever more present. The special features were not as expansive as on the first - but still enjoyable and enlightning.

Fantastic movie.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Movie picked up were the last one left off. If you have not seen the previous one don't worry they gave a recap. The movie can be enjoyed by the entire family. The action is non stop and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The movie introduced new characters and new locations not seen in the previous one. The movie is long which is good make sure you have plenty of popcorn. I would recommend this movie to all.

Good movie if you're not a 'Tolkien purist'
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good movie if you like the Tolkien fantasy books but aren't particular about the movie being a 'strict translation' of the Hobbit. There is obviously some 'dramatic license' taken in producing the movie. The movie version of the Hobbit, however, is excellent in using the currently available technology to bring the book 'to life.' The dragon Smaug is a fine character here in the exchange with Bilbo. Tauriel adds a good strong female presence that brings a distinct counterpoint in what's largely an 'all guys' action outing. This extended version fills in nicely spots with extra material that someone who knows the book well could really like.

Excellent sequel!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent addition to my 3d collection with a decent release day price. - BB is getting better at this. Besides characters are aging instead of being actually younger for the prequel to Lord of the Rings, the trilogy has been living upto my expectations. Excellent special effects, acting, and locations make this a great series and a pretty good rendition of the books. Can't wait for the final movie to come out.

big hobbit fan
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i'm not to fond of watching a trilogy (lord of the rings) and then seeing the prequel, but then again it is the hobbits. Imho the movie was excellent and well worth the price. the action scenes were 1st rate and had stunning visuals. I would like to be able to watch the 3 episodes at one time and not have to wait 2 years because I don't do theatres, BUT, DO GET THIS, IT'S WORTH IT. on with the 5 armies.

Always a great sequel
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My girlfriend had never seen the Hobbit Trilogy so we went to Best Buy hoping they would have the Blu-Ray Trilogy deal that we were able to get for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, but unfortunately they didn't have it. We ended up buying each DVD separately and thankfully each DVD has been great quality and my girlfriend has really loved each movie.

Vast improvement on the theatrical edition
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition is a vast improvement on the theatrical edition. It restores a number of the favorite parts of the book that were cut from the theatrical edition in order to provide for a "quicker" opening, including lots of extras with Beorn and the journey through Mirkwood. Virtually every character in the film who isn't an elf gets fleshed out more fully, and it provides a much better sense of scope of Mirkwood, which really seemed like a one day journey in the theatrical cut. I highly recommend this. The key that this edition included was a nice perk, but it'd be worth the purchase even without the key.

Great Movie For Any Lord of The Rings Fan
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie is just as great as the LOTR trilogy and much better in my opinion than the First Hobbit, not that the first one is bad, but this one a must for any fantasy, adventure fan to have for your Blu-ray 3d dvd collection. I highly recommend for anyone to watch even if you are not a fan of these movies a must. Not to mention the special features are great especially the Blu-ray is crystal clear.

Great movie!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love the Hobbit and LOTR series - Tolkien was a genius - so glad that they decided to make the Hobbit - it explains so much leading up to the LOTR movies and story. I know this movie/story isn't real, but Tolkien made this soooo well, even down to the languages in the film, that it is hard to believe it's not real! This is by far the best movie ever made on fantasy films. Excellent! Peter Jackson is #1

Hobbits are awesome
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Man this movie is great. Being based on a true story I would have thought that the dragon would have been more vicious and less patient. But now I know not to worry about keeping gold inside of my mountain because that was a key point in finding out where I was going to move next. Now it's kind of a deal breaker for me. I would hate to wake up to a dragon standing over my gold plated toilet one day.

Great Movie for the entire family :-)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a GREAT part of the Lord of The Rings Story! I'm the wrong person to ask for an unbiased review of any Lord of The Rings movie - because all of them are some of my all time favorite movies; The Abyss, Avatar, Titanic, Aliens, The Terminator are but a few others that come to mind. We enjoy sci-fi movies because there are no boundaries and today's digital visual & sound effects are the best ever!

Good Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Obviously the movie is an adaptation of the Hobbit one of the best literary classics. However it has been stretched into 3 movies with no real investment into producing something true to the original work in order to cash in on the interest in the books. It also I think strays from the feel of the book as an Bilbo's excitement and enjoyment of the adventure, but instead casts the darkness that is the Lord of the Rings.
