Anyway I gave it four stars because it is easy to use, easy to clean and the air is clean and fresh.

Air cooler fills a niche that A/Cs would miss

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This cooler is mostly a glorified fan with the ability to provide minimal cooling in low humidity environments (< 50%). Once the temps and humidity go up to around 80 F (or 27 C) it doesn't seem very effective and an A/C would be better. However, it's a lot more energy efficient, compact, quieter and portable than an A/C so it would be useful in smaller spaces or wherever you can't vent exhaust out a window. There is also a large capacity reservoir which make it convenient to use for a long time (e.g. 1-2 weeks with regular use) without having to refill it. The remote makes it easy to switch the fan speed (low, med, hi) and activate the oscillating louvers to provide more fan coverage. I used this in the PNW where humidity hovers around 45-55% indoors the summer and was useful when temps were below 80 F / 27 C. It's also useful for ventilating small rooms or areas where an A/C wouldn't be appropriate (e.g. no windows).

We didn't use it for a long time and couldn't find out during the returnable period if we could return or not. It just turned out to be a complete waste of money. Also filling and getting water in is a hassle as well.

Unlike an Air Conditioner that uses a compressor and chemical refrigerant to cool, an Evaporative Air Cooler cools by reducing the temperature of warm, dry air as it passes through the wet Honeycomb cooling pads. The cooling sensation happens when the airflow touches your body. Having the airflow directly onto your body / skin is the best way of cooling with an air cooler, so it ideal to have the airflow within reach. Air Coolers work best in dry climates - the temperature reduction of the air coming through the air cooler is higher with drier air. Adding cold water helps cool vent cooler air. It is by no means an air conditioner but it does help cool an area a bit. My only complaint is the compartment for refilling the water is small so refilling the water will take some time.

This unit is not an air conditioner as it does not use a compressor or refrigerant gas. It should not be expected to cool as efficiently as a refrigerated air conditioner. The frequency with which you need to refill the water tank depends upon the hours of usage, ambient environment and so on.
