I have read reviews on other sites concerning this particular unit and was at first apprehensive on buying it. There were a few complaints about the amount of noise it made and the cheap plastic used for venting. However, there are numerous web sites that rated this AC unit as one of the best so I decided to give it a try. I am actually very pleased with the unit. It does a very good job of cooling the room I purchased it for (about 250 sq. ft) and it does it with no trouble. I went with the 10,000 BTU unit because a lot of sites state that portable AC's are less efficient than window units so it is best to go a size up. With that in mind I am convinced that it could cool a 350 sq. ft. room with ease even on the hottest of days. As for peoples complaints that it is loud, it is an AC unit, what do you expect? On the positive side I believe that this unit is less noisy than a comparable window AC. With the fan on HIGH and unit cooling the peak decibel output I measured was 70. Looking at a DB scale this is just above the level of a normal human conversation. The unit is a bit on the large side so if you are cramped for space this may not be the unit you want to purchase. The controls are easy to use and navigate. I do like that you can set it to dehumidify without cooling, I think that is a big plus. You can also set it for the number of hours until it turns on and the temperature you want it to cool to. The remote is nothing special, very basic, but it works well so you don't have to get up from what you are doing to turn the unit on/off or adjust temperature levels. As for the bad side. This is a heavy unit, 68 lbs - over 70 in the box and the box is difficult to move alone. Also, the plastic used for the exhaust system is %$#@. The piece that plugs into the window kit cracked as I was installing it. The same piece doesn't fit well as other people have stated and if you wish could use a bit of duct tape to shore it up. I also would like to have seen the window kit come with a longer extension. One of the things you will need is insulation window tape. The window kit will NOT seal out the elements on its own.

This unit cools a good size room easily. Rolls around so it can be used in different rooms. Comes with a vent kit to put in window.

Cools down my garage when I hang out in there. I bought for emergencies, but use when it's too hot in my garage.

This works great in our bedroom. Made our room fo from the warmest to the coolest. Draining is a breeze and seldom. Would absolutely recommend.

Installation of storm windows required us to get rid of the window a/c. This unit is far quieter and very effective for our large bedroom.

The unit isn't great. It's a heat wave again in NYC and the best it can cool my bedroom to is 80 degrees (which is still way better than the 105 it is today). Doors are closed, curtains drawn but it can't come anywhere near the 70 degrees I've set it to target. On a day with a high of 84, it could only achieve 71. Maybe a 15000 BTU would have worked better, but this is NYC and the bedroom isn't that big. I'm tossing it at the end of summer and will start the journey over next year. A big disappointment.
