Posted .Thank you for sharing this feedback. With some humidifiers the mist put out by the unit is a visible mist. These types of machines turn the water into a mist and throw it out into the air. Whatever minerals/elements are in the water are also in the mist being put out by the machine. As the moisture evaporates into the air, the minerals/elements are left behind and will settle around the room as dust, and in most cases it is white. It is not harmful in any way; it is just the contents of your water. To prevent this from happening/reducing the amount of dust, distilled or purified water can be used in your machine. Ok, but one was defective right away.

They exchanged it at Best Buy and so far so good. The water containers are awkward to handle and I will feel lucky if I get two winter seasons use out of these units. I would not buy these again because I would get one that has a filter next time.

Because this unit takes the water and blows it into a screen which grinds it up into a mist, any minerals in the water are also ground into a mist. When this moisture evaporates, the minerals cannot, so the dust lands on furniture. This dust is not harmful or dangerous, and it can be prevented by using distilled water in your unit.
