    Although this thermostat may be able to perform the same as the Neat unit, it isn't as easy to install. And if you can't install it, you can't say it's as good. The unit looks nice and when I turned it on the screen was easy to read. I'm not sure if the price difference was worth aggravation.

    This was a dud out of the box. I really wanted it to work but had to return it. Instead, I went for the Nest and it was a good switch to make.

    I have 4 of these. 3 at work and 1 at home. I liked the 1st one so much I got more of them. Here we are today. Three years after my first one. It died. The unit stopped sending a signal to turn on the air conditioner. I called support and held for over 45 minutes. Not my first time to call. On other attempts I got a busy signal all day. And on another was told to call back and hung up on by the phone system computer because they had too many calls. Read this as NO SUPPORT... When I finally did get to speak with someone we did the normal troubleshooting and determined what my A/C tech told me. Bad thermostat. He said he could do nothing as the warranty is only 1 year and asked if I wanted to speak to his supervisor so I did. The supervisor said " All electronics fail and no company can guarantee an electronic product to last forever." I told him I understand that but I would expect at least 8-15 years before a failure. At this point I was told he could not do anything but off me a coupon to buy a new one from their website. NOT going to happen. Then the customer service supervisor hung up on me. WOW GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE HONEYWELL. I have NO confidence in my remaining 3 units. Just go 2 on them a few months back and plan on returning them for another brand if I can. With this kind of customer service I will never buy a Honeywell product again. 2 of these were Best Buy purchases. This in no way reflects Best Buy. Just Honeywell.

    Wouldn't work correctly with my system.

    All information said the thermostat should work with my system. However once installed according to the instructions, the system would not cycle properly. I contacted the support number for assistance. I explained what was happening, how it was wired and all other details they requested. I was put on extended hold twice only to be asked additional questions. It appeared the technician I was talking with was asking someone else what to say. The technician came back for the last time and said the thermostat appeared to be working correctly. I reinstalled my old thermostat and the system is working correctly. I returned the new thermostat for a full, no hassle refund.

    * Would be a 5 star review, but if you have any issues installing yourself, the user guide just refers you to the website that doesn't offer any real help. I'm sure if I was installing it during their customer service hours, I would have had any questions answered* Install took me about an hour, (40 minutes of me scratching my head and 20 minutes of actual install after I had an "aha" moment) but having zero knowledge on thermostats, I planned for an hour. After the install, I switched the breaker back on and fired the AC up. Be prepared for about 5 minutes of software updates before the app and unit can sync up. Easy user friendly display, the app is very simple to use, and you can customize the display color to whatever your heart desires! Only feature that wasn't instantly available was the outside temp/humidity. I read up on that and discovered that it takes anywhere from 24-48 hours to populate that information...and it was displayed when I woke up-even better! Overall, I think it is a great product. Much better than the basic thermostat I had before, and it qualifies you for rebates with your local energy company to essentially pay for itself in saved utility bills! For what it's worth - I chose this unit over a Nest thermostat because of the negative reviews on Nest. Although the amount of reviews wasn't extraordinary, most of the customers had issues with their actual AC units malfunctioning after installing the nest...some of those even with professional installation. No thanks!

    Unit is Inaccurate/Buggy

    I had high hopes for this unit, being a Honeywell and because of the price point. Although I really liked the interface and it seemed to work at first, I started to notice something odd. The room temperature would randomly jump up and down by 2 degrees at a time. Also, during a heating cycle, the temperature would never change. I used my old thermostat as a reference and the temperature was clearly going up and down, even though the unit wouldn't reflect it. Although the accuracy of the old thermostat could probably be debated, I could easily feel the difference in the room with no change on the readout. Out of curiosity, I purchased a 2nd unit to see if there was a problem with the 1st one, but saw the same results. I contacted Customer Service multiple times and was told that it measures temperature differently and was functioning normally. It doesn't do any good to spend that much money on a thermostat , if the temperature never changes. Upon further research, I discovered several other posts online referring to the same temperature anomalies. I believe that the unit is probably cycling properly in the background, but the room temperature is being displayed improperly, as though it's trying to give the illusion of maintaining within 1 degree like advertised. I have since taken back both units and am considering other options. I was hoping this unit would have worked out.

    Finally an improved alternative to the Nest

    - Summary - Pros: - Great app (quick, responsive, reliable, feature-filled) - Great website - Love the ability to customize your color scheme - Indoor & Outdoor temp/humidity reads very accurately - Circulate setting - Great scheduling options & control from the app, website, and wall unit - Super easy installation So at this point you can gather I'm very happy with this thermostat and would highly recommend it. But it's not perfect. Here are some very minor things that perhaps Honeywell could address in a future version: Cons: - You can't save custom color schemes, 3-8 custom save slots would be awesome - You can't edit the current custom color scheme; to make a slight change, you have to start from scratch - No wifi-only mode, which would allow you to maintain remote control of the thermostat if your internet, or Honeywell's servers, are ever down (my Samsung smart TV app can control my TV over wifi without talking to a Samsung server, for example) - to clarify, you are still able to control your thermostat from the wall unit if there is ever an internet connectivity issue - You can adjust the inactivity brightness on the wall unit, but not the active brightness - A great feature would be to tie inactive brightness to your heating/cooling schedules, so you could tell it to go to brightness 1 when sleeping or away, to reduce power consumption - No auto-login option on the app - No remember password, or auto-login option on the website - Web address is impossible to remember (https colon slash slash rs.alarmnet dot com/TotalConnectComfort/Home/), not usually a big deal since you can bookmark or google it, but how hard would it be for Honeywell to use a simpler address like "myhoneywell dot com" instead (just checked, it's not even being used at the moment) - it would also be nice to be able to access the device through your home intranet by just navigating to the device's IP address in a web browser, like I can on my sprinkler controller, which would again reduce dependency on Honeywell's servers or an internet connection in general - The pro-install (2-wire) version of this thermostat comes in white, black, and silver. This consumer version only comes in the worst of those three options, silver (really a 2002-era color). White/black options would be great! - Ability to control the circulation sensitivity would be nice. So you can adjust up/down from Honeywell's stated default of 35%. - Ability to control the temperature swing. I like the +-1 degree swing personally, but just in case any of the Nest fans enjoy its inferior +-3 degree swings, why not just make that a user-selectable setting from 1 to 5 degrees in each direction, and let the user decide what's best? To conclude, this is an awesome thermostat, and the very trivial cons would reduce its score to about 98/100. While not perfect, on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, this places it at a very solid 5. The price is a little high, but identical to the significantly lower functionality of the Nest, and a lower price than the ecobee. So it is absolutely the best value currently on the market for smart thermostats, and I have not regretted my purchase for even a second.
