I love this thermostat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After my thermostat conked out, I decided to upgrade to a SMART one. After some research, I narrowed it down to the Nest and Honeywell. I decided to go with the Honeywell because it had all of the features I was looking for at around $100 less than the Nest. I am happy to say I made the right choice. I bought this at the end of June beginning of July. So far it has exceeded my expectations. It works great, maintains the perfect temperature, and its basic functions are easy to use. The programmable features are a little more complicated but not too hard to work out. Good for anyone who is at the minimum moderately tech saavy.

Exactly what you expect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The WiFi works perfectly 100% of the time. No HUB required. Connects direct to your home WiFi. Also has the ability to lock the wall unit so the "kids" cannot turn down the A/C while I'm at work. However, I can still control the unit through the app on my phone. I use an old galaxy S4 and the app works 100% of the time and never one issue. I previously had a Sensi and returned it due to it being offline more than it was online. Schedules are easy to set on the app or on the website. I have had this thermostat now for 6 months and there is not one complaint I can think of.

auto change heat and cool
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Initially, I was not impressed. Out of the box, the 9580 is programmed for manual operation. I don't know what dummy programmed it this way. With any New gadget, you would expect all options to be available as soon as it's plugged in. I'm sure they suffered many returns due to this feature not being the default. Auto change over is a setting that needs to be setup in the advanced preferences menu. Go to "MENU" > "Preferences" > "Advanced Preferences" After you set up the advanced Preferences for auto change over. Go to "System" on the main thermostat display and select "Automatic".

Good convenient thermostat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for my Florida home and had a small issue with heat pump wire connection that I couldn't understand. One conversation with Honeywell support after I emailed them a picture of my old thermostat wiring as laid out in the owners manual and I was told what color wire to put where. I did when I got off the phone and it works exactly how it should. If you had some problems with the wireless setup as I've seen in previous reviews you are technically challenged and need someone who is a little more inclined to assist. This product is as easy as hooking up anything else to your wireless network. Very convenient to see humidity etc and be able to change with my phone. Buy this product!

Great Unit for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit was installed two days before I went on Vacation. It was set on vacation mode to turn the heat on when the temperature reached 62. I tried to change the temperature and was completely locked out until the set return date. Also I couldn't tell if the unit was running once it hit the low temp. I was at the CES show where Honeywell was a exhibitor so I asked the rep who just so happen to be on the support team for the app. He was very helpful and also told me that they had just pushed an update trough. The update allow you to see if the unit is running only on the web portal at this time. But he made note of the other issue of being locked out.

Great product, Easy to Install, Easy to Operate
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After wanting to purchase a programmable thermostat for some time. I was going to purchase the Nest. After seeing this Honeywell RTH9580WH thermostat in a friend's house and doing some research and reading reviews on both, I decided to purchase the Honeywell RTH9580WH instead of the Nest. Installing this unit was a breeze. The instructions are great, it comes with small tags to label the wires you take off of your existing thermostat. I literally took my old thermostat down and installed the new one in less than 10 minutes. My old thermostat was also a Honeywell, this one mounted using the same holes. Connecting this unit to my wi-fi was as easy as entering my password to my modem. Programming was just as easy. Within minutes it was installed, programmed, hooked up to my internet, and accessable from my computer or smartphone. I would reccomend this thermostat anyone wanting a programmable thermostat due to the good looks, ease of installation, and ease of programming, and accessible from anywhere

Great thermostat!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a 2 story house so being able to control the temperature from my phone is very convenient since the thermostat is upstairs. Also having a vacation setting is awesome so we don't have to walk into a warm house. I just can't say enough great things about this thermostat!! It's also easy to use with the touchscreen. I was a little concerned since I have a variable speed thermostat and customer service from Honeywell said it won't control both speeds... Nonsense, it works great with both speeds and switches efficiently and quietly. You just can't go wrong with this thermostat. The installation - soooo easy! Wifi setup was simple as well. You won't go wrong with buying this unit, I promise!

Convenient Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product was easy to install and get hooked up to the Internet. I like being able to remote access the product so I can check on things and change things even when I'm away from home. My one complaint is about Honeywell itself. Since I got the product it has not read my outdoor stats. I have contacted Honeywell twice and have not had the problem solved. Their responses also take several days and up to a week. Other than their slow customer service, the product itself is handy.

Great except for smartphone app
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The thermostat installs easily and is easy to see and control. However, the app more often than not cannot connect to the internet. Tried from 2 IPhones and an Android tablet, all very close to my access point. All other apps needing the web work. A ROKU box also never fails. The thermostat itself shows a strong WiFi connection. Hopefully Honeywell support will tell me what could be wrong on my end but from seeing others having the same problem I'm guessing it is the app. If the connect problem doesn't improve, the need for repeated attempts will be worth it if away from home but certainly not to avoid a walk to the room where the thermostat is located. As noted in another review, the tablet app is landscape only and there is no auto login. My 'recommend to a friend' is qualified by possibly having to live with the above issues. Will post again if my connect issue is resolved.

It Works!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok, so this works great once installed, but buyer beware if you have an older house and don't have a dedicated power wire or C-wire to your thermostat, this will not work. Ended up costing us another $100 to have it installed, which is sort of a bummer, but other than that the thermostat itself works great. Oh, and the screen NEVER shuts off, only goes dim, which is a little weird.

Excellent thermostat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to install. Nice interface and iOS app. Wish programming could be done with more discrete steps in temperature through the day like my prior Z-Wave thermostat but easily installed and has performed reliably thus far. Nice App that is being updated frequently by Honeywell. Hoping for Apple Watch support too.

A great buy!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Can't say enough how much I love these. Have 3 in my house and they work flawlessly. Apps are rich in configuration options and touch screen is intuitive and cool to be able to change colors. Wireless connected first time and has never lost connection. Go with these over the NEST

Great Product, Excellent Customer Service.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like most people when I was looking to get this product I read most of the reviews. I'm a fan of reading a few dozen 5 star reviews, & a handful of the 1 star to see what people are having major issues with. One major complaint I noticed with the 1 star reviews was that people were saying it wasn't as easy to wire as stated. This is partially true, however I got excellent service from Honeywell through Facebook of all places. With older (some newer) heating systems there is no common terminal to run your 24VAC common wire back to the thermostat. This is annoying, but not to difficult to solve. If you have 2 extra wires running from your heating unit to your thermostat you can use these to get the needed 24VAC back to your thermostat. You will need a 24VAC transformer to get power to the thermostat from these wires. There are 2 options for this. The easiest solution is a plug in transformer. I have read a lot of reviews on these and they seem to be the lesser of the 2 options. Reason being is they seem to have voltage fluctuation on the 24VAC side. Also they seem to not be labeled as to what is the hot lead and what is the common. You can figure this out by using a multi meeter (if you don't know what that is then this option is not for you). The other option is a transformer Honeywell makes. The model number is Honeywell AT140A1000 it can be found at Lowe's or on Amazon. The terminals on this are clearly labeled. C is your common wire, and R is your hot wire. When using this option you have to remove the jumper that is on the bottom left of the backing plate for the thermostat. If you are using this transformer my suggestion would be to buy an extension cord with a polarized plug. Cut the female end off, fallow the larger of the 2 plug ends back and attach that to the natural wire on the transformer (white wire) use a wire nut to connect the 2 leads. Attach the other wire from the cord to the hot wire (black wire).make all your connections on the thermostat backing plate and then plug the extension cord in. You should be all set to start the unit up now. When doing this be sure to wait till the end to plug the cord in. As always make sure all connections are tight and not touching each other. Run any high voltage wires through conduit, or make sure the wire is secured to the wall joist, or ceiling joists. If you have any concerns about this call a licensed electrician and plumber to do the work for you. You are better to be safe than worry about the price of a service call. I would've given this product a 5 star review if this issue was mentioned in the description, or installation guid.this product is great, and the customer service was excellent! The only other problem I saw was a minor one. One that most people wouldn't notice, but my OCD was kicking in. The screws that hold backing plate to the wall are a little small, the heads can go through the mounting holes. This is easily solvable with 2 #4 washers.

Good with some remote limitations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far I've been pretty pleased. I lacked the powered C wire so I had to google how to connect an unused wire to power which took about 15 minutes to complete. The only real ongoing issue I have is that you can't manage vacation hold remotely and if you turn on vacation hold you can't mange the thermostats remotely at all. I bought these just before a trip to replace two failing units and because I wanted to be able to save money while I was gone and come home to a cool house. We ended up getting in a couple hours early which I knew was going to happen the day before yet because vacation hold was set I wasn't able to modify the setting. Thankfully it has some logic and knew to start cooling the house early so when I arrived it was already cooling but I was disappointed that I lacked control. In the future I plan to never use vacation hold and only modify temp and set it on permanent hold then turn off the hold when I'm a couple hours from being home. That way if plans change I can adjust it. The one initial issue I had was that as soon as you register them online (which you have to do to manage them remotely) they start an update from the web which locks you out from remote access for over an hour. Honeywell should understand that when people get new toys we want to play with them a bit before you lock us out to apply some update. They could be smarter with this and wait until 2am or prompt you for a time to update. Other than that they seem to be very accurate on the temp and updates from my phone or computer take effect within seconds. The fact you could change the theme color was nice, I picked a color that didn't glow so much at night because the screen never turns off. This is my first smart thermostat but since I didn't want to train the Nest or pay another $100 I decided this gave me the features I wanted at a price I was willing to pay. I think I'm going to be happy with them long term.

Easy to install and setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading reviews on Nest and an Emerson product decided on the Honeywell. I like the fact that you can see time set/actual temperature. I needed a needle nose pliers to get the wires into the clips. No big deal. The app was easy to download and intuitive to use.
