No fan is silent, but this fan is quiet or at least the sound is not disturbing to me for sleep. If you are looking for a bedside fan to keep you cool without keeping you awake, I highly recommend this fan.

I bought it for Night Sweats during the winter. Only issue is the stand is not very stable. Its not a good locking system. The bottom separates when you pick it up
