It does pick up dirt very good. I had a vacuum with a bag before, this one does have the plastic cup the dirt goes into. I was amazed how much dirt it picked up.

Not super strong but we needed a vacuum quick and couldn't afford much. Really heavy too and the cord length is short. Basic vacuum, cheap price. We LOVE Hoover and knew it would do the job.
