Not great but good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The original How to Train Your Dragon is a classic. This movie was good, but I bought it mostly for collection purposes.

Solid but not great sequel
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 2nd dips a little in quality for me, luckily the 3rd brings it back around nicely.

Five Star Film - Three Star Release
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me preface this by saying I absolutely love this film. It was a beautiful sequel to the original and wonderful entry into the overall Dragons franchise. However, it's almost criminal how badly they transferred this gorgeous film to home release. I saw it twice in theaters and this home release is watered down and disappointing. The first film had a breathtaking home release - it's downright glorious. Where this one falters is the audio. There's absolutely no depth, no expansion. Scenes that were enhanced by the score in the theater just don't measure up at home. It's like it's not even the same audio track at all. Furthermore, and I'm looking in to seeing if it's a glitch on my end, there is an issue with audio syncing in spots bad enough that it's noticeable. That is, there are distinct moments when lips are not moving at the exact time they should. It's distracting in some places more than others. If this is actually the release, then this is unacceptable.

It Tries a Little Too Hard
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't let my 3 star rating fool you, this isn't a bad movie and I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. That being said, the first film is far superior in every way. Most of the character progressions don't feel like a logical extension of the first film and they come off as feeling really artificial and 1-dimensional. The plot is also dubious at best and it really makes me question if they actually thought about how the dragon ecosystem works with the conflicting social hierarchies they present. The villain is also ridiculous. However, there are some touching moments and some pretty funny writing. Kids will love it, I think, but it's not a "must watch" for everyone like the first How Train Your Dragon is.

Great 3d, Pixar wouldn't have let the story go
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to see it in 3d, for that it is worth it. I think the story is too mature for adolescents, but too dumb for adults in the long run. The 3d throughout is phenomenal, as well as the animation. The guts, the middle, left me sighing, waiting for something. Did something happen? Yes, was it enough, yes/maybe. Remember watching "toy story" and then thinking at parts that the characters were toys, not people? That didn't happen for whatever reason. Great voice acting (a few too many voices jumping in), great animation, it just didn't come together, coelhese. In the recommendation box below I wish they had a maybe if you had 3d.

Fun, long-awaited sequel.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Animated moves are among some of the best technical video examples of what high definition video can look like - and this movie is no exception. The video experience is great and the audio mix is equally immersive with DTS HD 7.1 encoding. This sequel, like most, unfortunately doesn't break the mold and feels a bit like it is riding the tails of the first movie. Still, a great children's movie and one that is good to watch as a parent as well.

Original soars higher
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As is fairly standard, this sequel drops off a bit from our original introduction to Toothless and his supporting cast. The adventure is fun though, as it follows the entire repeat adolescent cast into the brink of adulthood. Complete with humorous dialogue and Awww-worthy moments, this movie is a nice break from other sing-songy kid's movies.

Not as good as the first...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's not a bad movie, but it's a little darker than the first with some deaths to deal with. While it's still cute I wouldn't recommend for folks with really young kids unless you want to explain why a certain dragon and certain main character die. Honestly I'd wait for your favorite source to stream it...

great message for kids
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Kids will love the characters in this movie. I've watched tons of movies with better story lines, but this is a film sculpted for children, and it does a great job as far as for keeping them entertained. handling loss and taking care of business are good messages for younger children to take in.

A good movie for kids
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While I enjoyed the first How To Train Your Dragon, I was not as impressed with the sequel, although a nice sequel, as I was with the first movie. I saw the sneak trailer at WonderCon 2014 of HTYD2 and could not excited about the new sequel. I am sure that this movie is well suited for kids.

Didn't live up to expectations
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this movie after reading several online reviews. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't nearly as good as the reviews made it seem. Dragon 1 was much better. 3D was used mainly for depth. Not much "wow" factor. I would recommend the 2D over the 3D version of this movie.

nice movie to the original
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice movie, but the story line seems a little overwhelming regarding all that power that Valka has in controlling the dragons. Too bad the husband and wife relationship was so short.
