Remember in the first movie where Hiccup's dad gives him a helmet that he said was made out of this mom's breast plate? She must have been HUGE, right? Well, in the second movie she's a skinny thing who abandoned her family. Not only that, she could fly a dragon any time to say hello, and never bothered to do so.

Sorry but this movie should not have been produced. There is absolutely no reason you had to kill off the one parent, no reason at all

    Another Fantastic Film From DreamWorks

Another Fantastic Film From DreamWorks Sequels in a beloved franchise tend to take all the things that made the first film a hit and Make Them Bigger. We might label this phenomenon Sequelitis, or maybe Sequelization Syndrome. And that's definitely the case here. There are more dragons, more pyrotechnics, more characters, more intensity, more at stake. Parents wondering if the sequel is as suitable for young viewers as the original might want to take note of all those mores—while remembering that it's a swath of dragon fire that can burn both ways. There's also more heroism, for instance. And the story's poignant focus on the power of a father and mother's influence is deeply compelling—as is their marital reconciliation and rekindled love for each other. It's the kind of pro-family storytelling that inspires you to want to be a better, more helpful, more loving member of your own family. Hiccup isn't left to just follow his dreams, rather he learns about responsibility and leadership, as well as the work required to see things through. But it's the battle scenes that will feel more more than the rest of those mores. Dragons and humans die in intense skirmishes that I found myself mentally comparing to the likes of Godzilla and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Things never get that grim or gory, of course, but the combat is rarely merely cartoony. A few worship-minded references are made to the Norse gods, as well, and wickedness feels palpable in the dark Drago. All of that makes this a film several degrees more complex in its portrayal of human (and dragon) goodness … as well as in giving us a shadowy glimpse of the opposite. So while How to Train Your Dragon 2 is every bit as entertaining and engaging as its predecessor, it's traded some of the whimsical, childlike wonder for a more nuanced—and at times darker—examination of the clash between good and evil.

    Better then the first

OK this movie really does have it all. it's very funny, it's cute, it's action packed. and a little shocked but it may also leave you in tears. I love the first one so much that I bought it, three times, DVD/Blu-ray/ then the Blu-ray 3D.. but it was worth it.. I'd say the same thing for this one as well. but just get the 3D version , If you have a 3D TV , The 3D effects are better then most ., a lot of stuff comes right at you, the only thing I can say that even could be considered a negative , is that there is not any character development of the kids from the first movie. except for Hic Up's girl friend. other then that the only character that get any real screen time Hic-Up and we find a few cool new things about Toothless , and a newcomer ( won't spoil it for you ) I will give a slight warning. for parents who have small children this movie does have a very sad scene in it. again I won't spoil it but I would suggest finding out what it is, before you think your child could take it or not. I Just can't praise this Movie enough. A+

this is actually a darn good movie experience. Aimed at kids there's a lot of sappy moments that actually put a smile on my face. Just like the first movie and comes with a digital copy.
