However, when trying to enroll, the web site says my printer does not qualify for the program. Seems like a fair offer, but if you can't get it why advertise it?

I am sorry that your experience with the web site has not been the best. I can certainly understand why you are questioning it program, but I think there is perhaps just a little confusion.
The HP Officejet 5255 can use Instant Ink and is listed on the webpage (as in HP Officejet 5250 series): instantink.com
While you can drop the "HP" when you are typing in the model of your printer, you do need to include "officejet" when you are typing it in.
I hope this clears things up and that you have a great experience with Instant Ink in the future.

She is at college and the wifi is bad there. So she can't get it to setup. I have it for my printer at my house and it worked great. She really needs her printer but I guess we won't be able to use this.

I'm on my third cartage of ink! I'm little puzzled, because I have friends that have had no problems in receiving the ink refills from HP. Unfortunately, at this time I can not recommend to a friend..

We were told we could upgrade if we used more than program allowed at entry level. Glad we only purchased the minimum $2.99 product because when we tried to activate it we were told by HP it is not available with the printer we purchased.

You have to use so much ink by a cdrtain time.Maybe if you're a power user it would be a good program. Otherwise it's a waste of money.

Would NOT recommend. Threw this out and bought another brand.

You pay for the pages you print regardless if you run out of ink or not. The ink is always free, but they advertised giving me X amount of free ink along with it.

Mine ran out never got a replacement even with subscription and now it is no longer available. Just purchased in April and not even 6 months later it’s unavailable
