I am very sorry to hear that you are not pleased with these plans. No one is obligated to sign up for Instant Ink, but many find it convenient.
The printer monitors the ink levels so it can send in an order for more ink when the Instant Ink cartridges are getting low.

I am very sorry to hear about this confusion. The sales person must have not been properly informed about which printers can use Instant Ink.
It is a program that many customers like a lot. You can find out which printers will take the subscription on this webpage: hp.com/instantink
I'd advise you to go back to the seller to get a refund for the plan (or perhaps a printer that does work with Instant Ink!)
