BEAST with a Purpose and that purpose is Gaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There's not much that I can say in the form of negatives and if I do, it's literally nitpicking. I'll get to my review in a moment but first I'm going to give my list of PROs and CONs. PROs: Absolutely GORGEOUS Ceramic White shell. EXTREME Cooling (Best in ANY Gaming Laptop I've come across) 1440p 165hz 3ms latency GORGEOUS Display Optimus Advanced Bright Display RTX 3070 with GSYNC running with DynamicBoost 2.0 (115w Max) LARGE "PRECISION" Touchpad Beautiful Per-Key RGB Keyboard More than enough ports to fulfill your connectivity needs NvME Gen 4 1TB Drive by Samsung and an Empty m.2 port for a second one (Also Gen4) CONs: Battery could be better. Touchpad VERY Finicky (I'll explain and give you the fix below) Is that it? Actually...YES Lets start with the only CON I have. Here's the conditions for my test: Optimus Advanced selected INTEL UHD Graphics (Not nVidia) Brightness set to 2nd lowest level Everything closed except 1 Google Chrome tab running Youtube Volume set to 50% with Advanced Equalizer settings all maxed Wi-Fi 6 connected with Channel Width 160Mhz I did nothing on the laptop except watch "Linus Tech Tips" (LTT) Videos on youtube the entire time. Total Battery Life: 1hr 30min. Granted, I use it 95% of the time plugged in, but still...Could be quite a bit better. Next up, The Touchpad is VERY finicky when you get it out of the box, for several days I'd had trouble with it constantly. What was going on is below: 1) The touchpad would just stop responding to touches, taps/double taps, left and right clicks intermittently/randomly/fairly frequently. 2) by touching the touchpad, you could get the cursor to move maybe an inch then just stop and get stuck there, touchpad not responding to movement, then you could get it to move another inch a few seconds later and this continues for a while, Very jittery like. 3) Sometimes the left tap/double tap or clicking just isn't recognized, as if you're not even taping or left clicking....But right clicking/tapping will work. and sometimes it's the other way around. The above problems made the laptop pretty much unusable without a mouse. I updated all of the software and drivers from HP's website. I removed ALL 3 components of the drivers from device manager and reinstalled. None of it would fix the problem. Called HP, they couldn't figure it out. So at this point, I took matters into my own hands and did my own research. The drivers that HP's support page for this laptop had were dated 5/21/2021 but installed drivers from January 2021 (Pre-Windows 11) After hours of investigation and searching, I found there were NEW Drivers for the ELAN PrecisionTouchpad that HP didn't have. Again, this took me pretty much overnight to find as I could not find them anywhere. Windows Update didn't even have these drivers. To fix this problem, you will need to go to the link below and download the drivers version 22.2.27.1 dated 29.07.2021 https://driverpack.io/en/devices/inputdev/elan/elan-precisiontouchpad-filter-driver?os=windows-10-x64 You will need to extract the file to a folder anywhere you want, I recommend a folder on the desktop for easy access. You will need to update the drivers to 3 different components from this folder with the extracted files. In "Device Manager", open up **Human Interface Devices** and **Mice and Other Pointing Devices** You're going to right click on the following three and follow the directions below on one at a time: ELAN HID Class Filter Driver ELAN PrecisionTouchpad Filter Driver ELAN Input Device Process as follows: 1) Right click on one of the three and click *Update Driver* 2) Click on *Browse My Computer for drivers* and select the folder where you extracted the files. 3) Click Next. (DO NOT CLICK **LET ME PICK FROM A LIST**) 4) The driver will install automatically. 5) Restart step 1 for the other 2 drivers listed above When you have done all three, reboot your system. Touchpad issue 100% resolved. Now that I'm finished with the CONs, lets get to the stuff you really want to know, am I right? This laptop is an absolute beast in more ways than I can count. At IDLE with nothing running but Google Chrome, I get 35c on the GPU and 40c on the CPU. If I go into the gaming hub and set the fans to MAX (5500rpm and it's pretty loud) I get the temps down to 30c GPU and 35c CPU. In 2 hours of playing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on MAX Graphics settings in 1440p, the keyboard only got luke warm at worst. According to RivaTuner stats, The game was playing at 186-190fps exceeding what the Display is even capable of. The GPU didn't even sweat at 70-72c and the CPU didn't even hit 70c. Thermal Throttle temperature for the CPU, the Intel i7-11800h. Thermal Throttle temperature for the RTX 3070 mobile is 87c. Why this is important? Thermal Throttling is when the CPU or GPU hits a certain temperature threshold where it automatically "downclocks" it or lowers it's performance and power consumption to produce less heat and allowing the heat to dissipate before it speeds it up again. You don't want this to happen at all, ideally, but at least not often because if it keeps happening, well for starters you've got BAD Airflow or just a bad airflow design like my previous gaming laptop. For 2, When a system is constantly thermal throttling, it can cause lag and stutter in the game you're playing. Now that I've explained that, lets move on. Halo Infinite on MAX Graphics settings @ 1440p resolution in Multiplayer. I got a range of FPS from 86-95. The GPU wouldn't pull more than 112.4 watts of power. The GPU didn't reach 74c and the CPU was solid at 69c as well. These temperatures aren't even CLOSE to max temps and don't ever get close. Both of these games were run with GSYNC Off and Optimus Advanced set to the RTX 3070 only. I have not tried any other games yet. All-in-All, I have to rate this laptop a SOLID 9.5 out of 10. I mean, I didn't buy this laptop to use it as an on-the-go work laptop unplugged, did I? And when you game on a gaming laptop without being plugged in, it reduces the performance pretty drastically. I bought a gaming laptop to simply game for the most part. For $1,500.00 (Sale Price at BestBuy) Would I recommend this laptop? No hesitation in mind, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY ***YES*** For $1,800.00 (BestBuy Retail price): Would I recommend this laptop? Without a doubt, a resounding ***YES*** I couldn't get approved for the credit to buy this at BestBuy, so I found it on Grover. I got approved for financing at Grover for the $2,157.00 that it will cost me over time. Do I have any regrets? Absolutely not. Do I feel it's worth it? No doubt in my mind. If you're looking at other laptops, stop and buy this. Some people complain that it's really really hot and laggy and slow and unresponsive and whatever else they may say. Rather than speaking to HP Omen Support and getting the machine looked at and/or serviced, they just complain and low-rate and return it. Don't listen to those negative reviewers who think all us high praise givers are bots because we're not. This is THE BEAST of 2021 and probably at least half of 2022.

Poor quality control
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the HP omen 16 because it has a more powerful gpu than the ASUS rog 15. The screen quality is decent, the speakers sound good. The performance is decent and the battery life is OK compared to any ryzen laptops. The problem i ran into with this laptop and made me return it was the trackpad working fine for about 10-20 mins and, then it started to just not work properly and register my gestures. I updated everything, factory data reset and nothing. After further research, on reddit alot of users were complaining about the same issue. So i decided not to deal with it and returned the laptop.

Piece of Junk
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't recommend buying. Died after less than 48 hours of ownership and can't get a response out of it. I work in I.T and could troubleshoot it but I'm not paying $1,700 to troubleshoot a laptop 2 days after I buying it. Returning it to Best Buy and will be buying a different brand.

HP Needs to Recall This Laptop!!!! TRASH!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DO NOT BUY! I Returned mine the very next day. I ordered this laptop online and received it brand new unopened a couple days later. This is the worse experience i have had from a laptop ever. I love omen and own 2 Hp Omen 15s so i thought id get this one to upgrade. As soon as i booted it up the set up was laggin like crazy and took over an hour just to get through the setup. I thought maybe it was updating or something and would be better once it had updated completly. After setting it up It would take almost a minute to open a program. I tried opening microsoft edge to get chrome and it crashed the system. If you dragged a windows the whole computer froze and it would just jump across. I looked on reddit for answers and seen many reports of this issue. On the surface it looks like a great deal for 1499 but at that price you should have something that atleast works. I exchanged mine for the Alienware M15 r5 and very happy i did.

Part of the trackpad goes when laptop heats up
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to return mine. A part of the track pad on the left kept going out, even after updating the firmware and software. Apparently its a known hardware issue. HP suggested i return it for a reburb. Crazy after only having the laptop a few days.

Underrated; excellent machine!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very surprised to say that I haven't seen much attention aimed at this laptop. Its performance is great, and at $1499 (on sale), it's a killer deal and an excellent competitor/alternative to the Asus G15. I definitely prefer this one. My model is the i7-11800H with RTX 3070 (115W) and it gets insane performance in games. The 1440P display is very crisp and the G-Sync capabilities make it very smooth as well at 165Hz. Gaming is great and its thermals are top-notch. The laptop can get as loud as normal laptops do, but the heat is managed very well. This is the LOWEST temperature laptop I've ever used. The I/O options are plentiful, and for the battery, I cannot say much as I'm a plug and play user. (other reviews show it as a strong performer) Don't sleep on HP for this model, no regrets on this purchase at all. Even at full price, it's well deserving of a spot right next to the Asus G15.

Lemon
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’d give no stars if I could apparently these models have had issues with pre installed windows 11. There is no reason a 1700$ laptop was not tested, in fact it was a lemon couldn’t shut down or power off after the initial setup. Took it back and exchanged for M15 R5 great choice

Updates break system, Tech support is useless
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Software update from HP causes the computer CPU to blast on idle and the fans to blast. No ability to roll back software. Tech support is completely unresponsive leaving you on hold indefinably and not ever picking up.

Only WHITE is good..rest all not.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Major heating issues out to box. HP bloatware is hampering the system. Left side heats up really fast while browsing. White looks nice though but that’s about it.
