I purchased this open box laptop alongside an open box Legion Pro 7i with similar specs and prices for comparison. Looks/design The HP is more professional and sleek. Even with the RGB off, the Legion very much looks like a gaming rig. Both are constructed similarly, but I felt the HP was slightly more premium. Back ports are great for cable management. Width is smaller than the Legion which helps for smaller bags. Hp has a slightly worse track pad and speakers. The illuminated keyboard is awesome, although the tightly packed keys took a few days to get used to. Performance/Cooling The downside to the HP is that the CPU power is capped compared with the Legion. In all 3DMark stock performance tests, the HP CPU score lagged behind 6%, leading to a 3-5% lower score overall. In CP77 with similar settings, I saw a 6% higher average frame rate along with slightly better 1% lows. The upside is that while both units routinely spike to 105 degrees during gameplay, the HP does sustain slightly lower temperatures despite having smaller vents. Battery life is pretty poor on both which is to be expected. Software The HP came with more bloat overall. Aside from that, The Omen Gaming Hub is a slight upgrade over Legion Hub. Overall, I'd take the Legion at similar prices. If the HP wasn't performance capped, it'd be an easy pick for me.

This HP OMEN MAX 16 is an absolute powerhouse. The Intel Core Ultra 9 and 32GB DDR5 RAM handle everything with ease, from intense gaming to heavy multitasking. The OLED 240Hz display is stunning—super sharp, vibrant, and incredibly smooth. With the RTX 5080, graphics performance is top-tier, and the 2TB SSD ensures lightning-fast load times and plenty of storage. Highly recommended for gamers and power users alike!

Got this open box, was basically new condition. Performs great overall - 80+ FPS in CP2077 without framegen, with raytracing on at native resolution. Fans do get loud but not obnoxiously so. The RGB lighting and light bar are also really nice, as is the OLED display. Picked the 2TB SKU so I dont have to mess with a repaste, and dropped an additional 2TB in the free slot (which was very easy to do).

The performance is very good. The new 275HX does run hot at full load but cools down quickly. Finally, it supports USB-C charging, a step up from the omen I owned before. However, with the high price tag, it's not acceptable to have such cheap speakers on it. The first unit i thought its defective unit and the second unit was the same. By comparison, Legion Gen 10 is a much better package. Also, it's a fingerprint collector, I think white version may be better? But Best Buy doesn't offer that.

The laptop looks nice and has really nice components. To be clear, some laptops use the same GPU but do not provide the same power to the GPU as this laptop. So, this laptop's GPU performs better than some other laptops. I would highly suggest it for AI training, usage, and gaming. Battery life is not good when using the GPU, but with the integrated CPU, it lasts up to 4-5 hours with light usage. The only problem is that Nvidia G-Sync does not work with the display port because the display port input and output is not directly connected to the GPU. It goes through the integrated CPU, which does not make sense; minus points to HP for this.

This thing runs CAD and printer software with ease along with the few games that we have. The download speeds are great and the picture is phenomenal. On its own the battery doesn’t last real long but it has a lot to run.

Honestly, I was skeptical about buying this laptop, but after using it for a couple weeks, I’m happy I purchased it. The keyboard feels nice, and the temps are surprisingly low for how long I use the laptop. The FPS is great for a laptop as well. I have it plugged into a monitor and keyboard, and it’s doing wonders. It’s also convenient to be able to unplug and be on the go, which is why I purchased this laptop.

Nice laptop. Powerful and performant. However, when not plugged in it lags. Even browsing the file explorer is slow when not plugged in. If you want power this is for you. If you want usability when only on battery this is not for you.

I only gave this four out of five because sometimes the switch to dedicated GPU creates lag. Other than that it’s a solid laptop. Especially if you can find it on sale like it was a couple of months ago. I was worried about the look of the keyboard from looking at the pictures, because I’ve never had one that had light visible around the keycaps. But once it I saw it in person, that concern went away. The keyboard is very nice and the RGB is great. It’s not too thick or thin, which is great, because it’s the perfect thickness in my opinion to get good thermals.

Excellent performance while plugged in - sluggish just surfing the web when not plugged in (but you don't buy this to surf the web on battery, do you?) Otherwise, this notebook has it all... premium graphics, and decent memory / SSD. The memory is in sockets and fully upgradeable, and there is an empty NVMe slot inside to add storage if needed. The OLED display is *fantastic*!!!

HP OMEN open box purchase. Fantastic Laptop

My last gaming/work laptop was a ROG Zephyrus G14 from 2022. I was considering the 2025 model for my new laptop but the RTX 5080 in it is limited to 120W. After researching many options, I decided on the HP OMEN. The price tag on these new laptops is a hard pill to swallow. But Best Buy in my area had a single HP Omen Open box. I decided to give it a go as it was $700 less than the retail price. The laptop is in pristine condition. setup was easy. I updated all the drivers and software from HP. They have a gaming app that lets you overclock and tweak the CPU and GPU. It lets you unlock the watts going to the GPU to 240. After i set it up and installed my steam library i tested a lot of my games. The laptop runs games like you would expect. My benchmarks 3D mark, Kombuster, PC mark all score a little above average for a laptop running a 5080 laptop GPU. One thing that i am really happy with is the new DLSS and Frame Generation up to 4X. The drivers are at a point now where the graphics look perfect even using frame gen. I am playing Dune Awakening at 2560x1600 with max settings, Lumen enabled, advanced shadow maps, DLSS, DLAA and 4X frame gen getting 180-210 FPS. It looks fantastic on the LED screen. I also used the laptop in the low power mode at a campground plugged in to a camping battery UPS. I changed the game settings too low to save power and the FPS was still over 120 FPS without using frame gen. This is bar none the best gaming laptop in its weight class.

I do not use this laptop for gaming so refer to the other reviews if thats what you are here for. I use this laptop to edit large file 4k videos. The editing program runs very smooth minor glitches however not a big deal could be the actual editing program and not the computer. This computer will render a long 4k video very fast after editing. Runs photoshop very fast and smooth for editing large file photos. So far its a great laptop for editing 4k videos and content creation. The OLED screen looks amazing as well.

Most people buying a 5080 in a laptop know what they are getting as far as capability os concerned. What I enjoy most about this setup is how well the system is able to control heat dissipation. Easily the best I have ever used. Most gaming laptops under heavy load can reach temperatures that cause concern and even allow the keyboard to be hot to the touch. Not this one. Yes, the fans can get loud but that should be expected. What I really appreciate is that it stays cool to the touch while running at max settings which allows the system to run smoothly and efficiently without the thermal throttle at the cost of performance. Sweet system.

really wanted to love this computer—its design and keyboard were outstanding, and nearly everything seemed perfect. However, after getting the laptop, I quickly ran into a major issue with battery life. Playing any video game required keeping it plugged in at all times, I noticed that when it was charging, it could push 4K resolution at 240+ FPS in most games. But the moment I unplugged it—what I like to call my "mobile desktop"—the performance dropped drastically to 20 FPS, with frequent freezing even at 1080p. After extensive research, I discovered that this was a common issue. The battery simply couldn't provide the minimum wattage the laptop needed, making wall power the only viable option for gaming. Additionally, while using the laptop, I often experienced glitches when trying to open multiple applications. It felt like the components weren’t working cohesively, leading to a sluggish and disjointed experience overall. Ultimately, after dealing with these frustrations, I returned the laptop and opted for the Omen 14 4070 i9 instead. This model proved to be much smoother, capable of gaming on the go, and delivered incredible battery life. Its compact form factor, excellent build quality, and responsive keyboard made it the perfect upgrade for my needs.

OLED screen is wonderful to look at. 5080 ran games at high and HP’s new thermal setup makes the laptop cool to the touch. A little keyboard flex and I don’t know if the trackpad is suppose to be clickable everywhere, but my unit does. No coil whine at high temps. Power adaptor is quite portable. HP did a geat job here.

Excellent and Loaded machine with a beautiful 240Hz OLED screen. The RTX 5080 will give you near 4090 desktop performance Relatively small footprint for a gaming laptop. It weighs about 6lbs. The keyboard's RGB looks amazing. The Internals include 2 ram slots that are upgradable as well as a extra NVME slot. It’s expensive. Normally 3K however, I got it on sale for 2.7K. Hopefully those prices will cycle. Occasionally, I'll stream my STEAM games to my slower desktop (32in monitor + i7 with a 3080Ti) to get the Ultra-settings experience. Will likely upgrade with another stick of NVME.

This is much better than last years 14 inch transcend model. This is absolutely a beast machine and a must have! The graphics is amazing and its very smooth. When loading heavy graphic based games this laptop runs it like nothing. Especially the beautiful 240hz OLED screen its just stunning! If you have the budget I would definitely get this laptop, you wont be disappointed!
