Loud clicks, too slick wheel

The scroll wheel surface is VERY slick -- to slick. I've resorted to using a rubber fingertip or (gross!!) licking my finger to get any traction on the wheel. Since neither of those works really well, the wheel is all but useless. Also, the buttons are very loud when the click and I find it distracting.
