    I purchased this at the recommendation of the Apple expert in my local Best Buy. I spent several hours working with the Apple Care tech a couple weeks later and he finally determined that this item did not have sufficient power to allow the data on my Seagate external drive to be accessible when plugged into this adapter. He was kind enough to arrange for an Apple USB-C to USB adapter ($19 at Apple; $16 at Best Buy) and that did the trick. So, no, I'd say save your money and buy the authorized Apple product better. MUCH better! I returned this HyperDrive to BB.

    I got a new Mac and the new Mac didn't have a ssd drive and a place for my external hard drive and this works

    This is a great addition to the Macbook's that only have c ports. However, I was sold this at the time I bought my first Macbook, and it doesn't fit when I have the hard cover case on. I only use it now when necessary, because it's become a hassle to remove my case every time.

    Love the device and matching space gray. Writing on package was small and seemed to hint was powered. The USBs are not powered. Just pass through. So if needing dedicated USB regular port with power get the Apple connector instead because I ended up having to buy this for external CD

    Needed adaptor for the prior generation USB ports since new MacBooks are available with new versions of USB... This does the job exactly as needed!
