Great basic microphone with a cool hinge.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HyperX’s SoloCast 2 mic is their follow-up to the entry level microphone space. It offers a compact form factor, cardioid pickup, and easy mute touch button with LED indicator. While the SoloCast 2 is firmly in the budget market, it offers some great features for the cost of entry. Is it worth the time though? On first blush, the packaging reflects the unassuming nature of the product. The SoloCast 2 ships in a small box that’s just big enough to hold the product and a USB cable. The product itself is a fairly simple tubular shape, which keeps the packaging to a minimum. The USB-A to USB-C is decent quality. Once you have the microphone out of the packaging, you’ll notice an interesting feature. The tube has a hinge about a third of the way up allowing the microphone to tilt. This feature allows you to position the microphone simply by placing it on your desk. If you want to use this microphone with an arm or stand, it also offers mounting threads. This versatility means you can use this as a great starter microphone, and if you don’t care about the more advanced features, or other bells and whistles of the fancier models you can mount this for a more professional setup. I used it with both an arm and initially with just the hinge; it worked great either way. The hinge can double as a prop for ventriloquism that elicited a laugh or two from some coworkers. Sound wise the microphone is more than adequate. I put this up against a more expensive mics, and it held up fairly well. The audio sounds rich and while some background noise seemed to be picked up further than I would expect from the cardioid pickup pattern, with software noise removal the audio is excellent; especially for its entry level pricing. The microphone offers a single button for instant mute that is a touch pad at the top of the microphone. This is a convenient offering. The microphone turns red to show you it’s on, which is a little backwards from some equipment where the red light means mute. Regardless, once you figure it out it’s nice, and doesn’t create any noise when pressed, which is great for a mute button. The software is pretty good, giving you the ability to adjust EQ, volume, and enable noise reduction. Overall, the software isn’t a must, but it seems stable and does what it should on the tin. I had a software update to perform on the mic, and that went flawlessly. Overall, this is a great entry level microphone with a flexible design and easy to use feature set. It’s not fancy, nor does it offer multiple pickup patterns, or anything; but it does deliver on the fundamentals. Overall recommended.

Excellent product for many uses: games, blogs, VR.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They've been making excellent Drivers & products for a long time, and I know why. It doesn't look like it comes with any complex software extras like noise filters, but the microphone's speed, clarity, and accuracy more than make up for that. It worked perfectly when I connected it to Windows 11. Then I connected it to Windows 10, and it worked just fine. To my surprise, I was able to use PC joysticks by connecting them to an old Amiga with a special RJ45 to USB converter. It worked well in both the early AI interface and gameplay when available. So the fact that it is both simple and varied adds an extra value that is very useful. I did play some games, but they weren't the newest virtual reality action games because I haven't played one in decades. Instead, they were strategy games like flight and military simulations. It's a gaming microphone, as the name suggests, but it doesn't come with any software to block out noise. Instead, it makes a piece of hardware that needs to have it built in because the way it's built cancels out background noise very well. It worked out really well in a game i use to play. I say move A6 to position J6 in mode "opportunity fire," "lay smoke" at A6, "hull down" at J6, and "button up." Artillery fire, tank sounds, and machine gun sounds in the background did not mess up the order.

Nice microphone in a compact design.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am by no means a professional audiophile, but I am always looking for a nice microphone for recording voiceover presentations that does not take up a lot of space on my desk. To quickly summarize, I really like this microphone. The size is just about perfect. Unlike another microphone I have that just seems huge by comparison, this HyperX microphone can be placed almost anywhere without being too intrusive. The microphone features a built-in shock mount and pop filter. It is also a cardioid microphone that does very well with picking up sounds that are in front of it while excluding reflected sounds from the rear. I also like that the red LED is on when recording and off entirely when the microphone is muted. (I have seen some microphones where the LED indicator is used to indicate when it is muted as opposed to when it is recording, which is counterintuitive for me. Luckily, not a problem with this microphone. Red means recording, as it should.) Additionally, the microphone can screw onto a boom arm for additional flexibility. With the positives in mind, there are a few minor annoyances that impacted my rating. First, the USB cable that is packaged with the microphone is a USB-C to USB-A. USB-C really is a standard port on computers and laptops now, so this decision surprised me. To go a step further, my laptop does not have a single USB-A port on it; they are all USB-C. I think it would have made sense to include a USB-C cable or, if there was a big desire to accommodate USB-A ports, include an adapter (or a second USB-C to USB-C cable). The other criticism I have is that the microphone is marketed as supporting an adjustable audio filter through the HyperX NGENUITY software. What the box fails to mention, however, is that software works only on a Windows-based PC. Mac and Linux users need not apply. Is that a big deal? Maybe not as there are other tools that can be used to modify recorded audio, but it does reduce the utility of the self-contained microphone by not running on Mac/Linux. With all that being said, those shortcomings are relatively minor and, personally, I found the benefits of the microphone's quality and form factor to outweigh those annoyances. Until I find something better and more convenient, this is now my go-to microphone for my audio production work.

Red light throws me off but i love it anyway
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think the weirdest thing for me with this mic is that the Red light means it isn’t muted, that gets me every time I use the mic for the first time because it is the opposite of every other mic out there. When you plug it in there are a few different options for recording but if you want more customization for the recording type you really want to download the app easily manipulate the quality level you are trying to record or stream with. It is really nice being able to just talk without headphones and the mic is able to pic up my voice and record it clearly and isolate it from what I am playing from the speakers. This is nice for both gaming and just chatting as it just feels more natural without headphones on. I love the design of the microphone, the small but heavy bottom that lets it just rest on the desk but not be tipsy at the same time is really well done and the ability to tilt it as well is just executed perfectly in what I want. Overall, this delivers the ability for people to hear me clearly, is extremely easy to use, and has an excellent design.

Clear Voice
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m not sure how my son manages to go through so many mics for his setup. It was time to look at getting him a new mic when this popped-up. We have a bunch of other gear from HyperX so knew this would be a great addition. We were not disappointed. Setup was as easy as you can imagine for a mic. Once everything was setup I was curious to see if this mic would do a good job in seperating the voice from background noise/game. I am happy to report that the gamers/friends on the other end can only hear your voice. You don’t have to worry about game noise or the clacking of keys being an issue to your team. That's great since we tend to crank the volume on some of our gaming sessions. I really like that the mic supports being installed on stand or arm. That is going to be the next thing we add to my son’s setup. HyperX deliveres again. A great mic that blocks background noise and keeps your voice in the forefront. Very easy setup and adapatable to a stand/arm. This is an easy recommendation.
