It can be a few feet away and still pick up your voice just fine, but it will also pick up background noise decently like your keyboard or a TV behind you. I bought a different stand with a shock mount for mine as the stand it comes with transfers taps on the desk (including typing on your keyboard ) to the mic as pops and booms. You could also put the mic on a separate desk or stand to mitigate this issue.

Only two downsides are that when muted, the light flashes instead of turning off, and the height of the included stand is not adjustable.
