This is a good movie. I'm not sure how closely it hews to the book, but that really doesn't matter. I thought that having Melville pry the story out of a survivor was a nice touch, since Moby Dick was inspired by the events in the movie.

This movie was well directed and had a good story line. I found the characters interesting and the pace fast enough to keep me focused. Good action scenes but the 3D wasn't very engaging. Overall worth the time and money.

My wife has been wanting to see this movie for a while but I was not sure if it was one i wanted in my collection so I waited until it went on sale to purchase it. Well it is not part of my 3D collection and I am really glad that I purchased it. The movie was great and the 3D effect were top notch.

This movie was who's beautifully filmed with great locations and backstory to the book Moby Dick it you like to know what happens before you read the book Also cinematography it's great to be home all world sailing in seamanship

I love the story! Perfect! I see why it wouldn't do well with most audiences during the past holiday season- but this movie was very good! I loved the tail of Moby Dick, but also the way the tragic events afterward unfold! Dolby Atmos/True-HD 7.1 mix was golden! Loved! It roared with my 4KUHD display!

Now this isn't an action heavy film, but is not a slow burner either. This film has great pacing, breathtaking visuals, the soundtrack is rich and engulfing on a surround sound system. This film has great character development, with struggle both external, and internal. Definitely a must watch.

I think this is a good movie, and I do like Ron Howard's direction of this story of "Moby Dick". It is not like the one with Gregory Peck, which I think is out standing, but it is a new perspective on this old story.

I bought this movie a couple this DVD a couple weeks ago and finally watched it. It was very interesting on the point of a Whaler and wasn't aware of there lifestyle. I couldn't live it. The acting was suburb and I didn't know Melville took a true story and used fictional player. JUST GREAT

I enjoyed the movie. It could have used a little more character development; learning a little more about the background of the individuals both before and after the experience with the sinking of their ship by the whale.

Great retelling of the Moby Dick story - good to see this well filmed variation that gets at a disturbing survival backstory that Melville intentionally ignored. Very entertaining, watched with my 16 year old son.

I thought the movie was adventurous and moved quite well. The fact that they hunted was what happened back then for survival, but not for today. The backdrops were done well, I found it a very good time well spent. Great movie as well as the acting..Seemed quite well done. Would recommend it.

This is a very good movie with the a captivating story.........it is over 2 hrs long but you will swear it was just a 90 minute movie, great story, very good acting and the 3D is outstanding, lots of depth the entire movie, well worth the regular retail price, I will rematch this many times.

I'm reviewing the blu-ray (not the 3d; cuz I don't have a 3d player/tv). Picture and sound quality are great. The movie itself was somewhat entertaining. Bought it cuz Best Buy had it a great sale price.

A classic story with a tremendous true story line that lead to the great American novel, Moby Dick. The action and video are superb. Discover the whaling history of our country and be amazed at the visual beauty of the sea.

GET READY FOR LOTS OF OCEAN , SIMILAR TO , THE LIFE OF PI. Man fights against all odds to survive. I got the 3D version of the movie , was pretty good. Based on the Essex from old Nantucket with plot of Moby Dick.

This was a great movie. I was a little skeptical at first. I mean, come on, a movie about Moby Dick? But I bought it anyway since it was on sale. What a great movie. It kind of ended a little strange but it was a great movie that I will watch again several times every once in awhile.

Me and my wife really enjoyed this one. It has a pretty solid story and good special effects. The 3D presentation is good and ads depth to the picture.

This movie is a lot more gritty than I was expecting. It gives a more realistic of an encounter with a beast of that magnitude. It also gives a new and dark imagination of what that crew would have experienced!

There are some areas where the whaling might scare younger viewers, but overall this is a movie you can watch with the family. I don't remember any cursing, definitely no nudity, and a visually great story.

I accidentally purchased the selection that included the 3D version, so I wasted a bit of money there. However, the movie was very good with a refreshingly different slant on the Moby Dick story! Well worth it!
