For the price, it gets the job done.

It's not an extreme size difference. The price isn't bad, and it covers my MacBook for when I transport it. It's a soft case so it won't protect it from something falling on it or dropping it, but the soft inside of the case that encloses the whole laptop protects it from getting scratched when I carry it around in my backpack or messenger bag.

Protective Case

Use it for Surface Pro 3

Effective, but expensive

He has had issues with transporting his laptop in the past, and he seems to really like this case. Hopefully it can protect the laptop effectively. At $40, you can probably get something just as good from a lesser known brand but I'm no expert.
