A great addition to my collection
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great film and it shows by its box office numbers and numerous DVD releases that other agree with me. None of the special features from the other DVD releases have been ported over for this Blu-ray release. Instead we some audio commentaries and some high definition exclusives that some may enjoy. As far as the picture and audio quality, this is not a computer generated picture, like Pixars 'Cars.' This was shot with a film camera and therefore, grain is to be expected. I would rather see grain than to have the print marred by DNR and come off as a soft representation of its former self. Grain does not equal bad quality. It is a natural occurrence in film. Get used to this people. The picture quality is great, contrary to what some other reviewers have written.

New Classic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok, the cons, no big deal, but in the movie the government knows about aliens, but somehow the US government is the only one that does, and even then the information isn't shared until after devastation has occurred. The head of the CIA knew, but the president didn't, yet his cabinet knew, makes little sense, but hardly affects the movie in a negative light, and i don't really consider that a negative of the film. As for the pros, great movie, fun aciton, amazing special effects for the time period. Something that is subtle, in one scene you see Israeli and Palestinian aircraft on the same runway in a joint effort. As well, the president declares Independence Day relevant to the world. The spirit of patriotism and hope is clearly present by the end, and makes for an awesome hero action archetype film. If you don't have this movie, you don't have a dvd collection. Oh, i did find one thing i objected to, the one random stripper scene by Vivica A. Fox, considering the family tone, and the language throughout the movie, this scene was out of place and thrown in just for shock factor. It didn't mesh well or belong, and the stripper role could have easily been any other situation or job instead with an even better effect on the film. The scene seemed as though it was thrown in later for the sake of having a woman dancing around.

Great popcorn flick

Great adventure, great spoofing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The aliens are real but they don't want to be taken to our leader...they want to eliminate the leader and everyone else. The film uses very subtle tongue-in-cheek humor throughout (at the beginning of the movie, the SETI personnel are listening to "It's The End of the World As We Know It" on the radio) and takes the audience on wild ride. Wil Smith puts Han Solo to shame as the hotshot air force pilot and Judd Hirsch steals several scenes with his dry, irreverent humor. Randy Quaid gives a hilarious performance as the space abduction victim nobody ever believed. Special effects are great and so's the story. The Fourth of July was never so much fun.

"Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!"
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Watching ID4 in 4K brings me back to seeing on the big screen as a kid. I don't think you can beat how this movie looks and sounds, until 8K comes along. Lots of legacy special features and some newer ones from the blu-ray release.

We watch this every year on July 4th!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have made a viewing of 'Independence Day ' a part of our family's annual holiday ritual. It's incredibly corny and you have to suspend disbelief with the logic - heck, we didn't know WHAT a computer virus might do back in the 90s - cripple an attacking alien civilization? Sure! To top it off, it has what has to be the luckiest dog of all time, Boomer, making it a fantastic fun sci-fi romp. Cult status.

Still a great ride 20 years later
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Anyone that grew up in the 90s remember Will Smith at the top of his game. Those same people will remember Independence Day. Great action movie about an alien invasion of Earth that’s as good as you remember and newcomers will love it too. Audio reference quality that should be on anyone’s shelf that loves action, the 90s, and Will.

Best alien invasion movie ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.yes, the movie can be a bit cheesy at times, but the actors really sell the cheese, and nobody does destruction better than devlin & emmerich. if bill pullman's speech before the final fight doesn't move you every time you watch it, then you truly have no soul. either way, buy this. it's amazing.

Not a good quality Blu-Ray
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not going to review the movie. By now, you've seen it and either liked it or didn't. Personally I have always enjoyed Independence Day. My main concern is the quality of this bluray disc. To me, there is just too much grain and noise in alot of the scenes. With high def, you hope for clarity and pristine colors. I came away from this bluray not really happy that I was getting good bluray quality. Certain scenes really shine...then 2 minutes later, you get something that looks like VHS. If bluray is going to become a dominant high definition format like DVD did (and I hope it does), we're going to have to get better quality than this.

great Sci Fi movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Of all the movies about aliens coming to destroy the Earth this is the best of them. The special effects are excellent considering when then the movie was made. All the acting is excellent because the cast is great. This movie also has a good combination of humor and action. Will Smith does a great job in his first major blockbuster.

Fun movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fun movie but the transfer into 4k is unbearable. Is soooooooo grainy throughout the entire film. I don't understand why they would release something like this. I grew up on ID4, watching it over and over. When I saw the 4k I got nostalgic.I didn't check the bluray copy to see if it suffers from the same issue.
