This felt pretty much like a repeat of the first movie, but not as good, the 3D was fairly decent and better than I expected it to be, if you didn't care for the first movie you probably feel the same about this one, if you liked the first one I would say go ahead and give this one a try especially if you are into 3D.

If you're a fan of the original, you will probably like the sequel. You'll see some familiar characters, but the story is introducing some new ones. The sound and visual effects come across well on this blu-ray transfer. The soundtrack is well done and the effects come across well in any 5.1 or above speaker system.

While I was expecting more from this sequel, it did have enough tie-in to the original to keep the story line intact. The only question I had, was how could they not have known that this was not over. It was nice to see the return of some of the main characters from the original. Overall it was good entertainment.

While many of the original cast made it to this Independence Day 2 movie it was not the blockbuster from the original. Using some of the same lines without giving audiences new ones didn't help it. My rating overall is good, but there were many things the movie maker's could have done to kick this out of the park.

The movie does a good job of picking up where the last one left of after about a 20 year time gap. Most of the cast does return from the original. It has some aspects that are interesting in a sci-fi perspective of the aliens and their ships. Humans have reverse engineered lots of things from the crashed ships.

I have to say that this movie four the effects people is awesome. I found it to bee enjoyable, but I actually like the original better on a personal level. With that said, this movie has awesome sound and effects presentation. The 4k brings that to the forefront. I have watched it several times since purchasing.

Well executed and very entertaining, almost as good as the first edition. Some interesting plot twists keep it fresh and audience guessing. Maybe it is just me getting older but I feel the original was a slicker presentation. Still, it is entertaining and I look forward to reading people who disagree with me.

Many feel they waited far too long for a sequel and it looks like it's being set up for a trilogy. That being said, at least the original director is back, the FX are excellent and it's a fun "popcorn entertainment" kind of film. It's all predictable modern sci-fi fun. Acting is adequate and par for the course.

although some of the original cast wasnt in this sequel ( will smith mainly ) it wasnt a total loss, sure it had its silly plot spots that didnt make sense, but all in all ,for a sequel that does deliver action,fx,and slight humor isnt a bad, forget yourself and enjoy a movie feel....again,decent popcorn movie

The movie was good. I love that they brought back originals Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica Fox (though her time was brief), Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, & John Storey. The Queen was really well done. My only wish is that they would've brought back Mae Whitman as Patricia Whitmore, the original First Kid.

    20 Years for This?

There is a bit of trivia on the IMDB page for Independence Day: Resurgence that talks about how, after the success of the first film, 20th Century Fox paid screenwriter Dean Devlin a large sum of money to write a script for a sequel. The story goes though, that after completing the script for what would have been the original sequel to 1996's Independence Day Devlin decided not to turn it in and instead gave the money back to the studio. The trivia goes on to state that Devlin did this because he felt the story didn't live up to the first film. As we are now twenty years removed from that original film and have now seen what an Independence Day sequel looks like this course of action only seems to beg one question: how bad must that original sequel script have been? Could it really have retreaded the beats of the first film as much as Resurgence does? The only thing that differentiates the first film from this new one is the passage of time and how that has changed earth's technologies and defense systems while having what cast returns look a little older. The IMDB page goes on to say that it was only fifteen years later, when Devlin met up with director Roland Emmerich to try again, that they felt they had finally "cracked" a story for a sequel. Though it is difficult to be downright negative towards a film story and character development certainly aren't Resurgence's strong suits and may even be the most laughable aspects of a movie that tries really hard to be funny. One can't help but feel that, in this scenario, "cracking" the story only meant they were offered a lot more money than before. If Resurgence does indeed deliver the story that Emmerich and Devlin thought more justified the existence of a sequel to their 1996 feature it can only now be concluded that they were only going to repeat themselves more with the scrapped screenplay. While Resurgence certainly finds moments of dumb fun and some rather spectacular action sequences given special effects have improved greatly in the last two decades it is more or less a retread of what we saw in that original movie in terms of ensemble cast and humans versus aliens. Granted, the question easily posed in response to that statement is, "what did you expect it to be?" and the answer to that is that they at least try to find a new way into that same old story.

I wasn't expecting much after the bad reviews and my friend's negative comments. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I am a huge fan of the original and I think the way they did this one worked. I loved it as a married mother of three and my 11 year old son liked it to. Well done. Who needs Will Smith!

If you like to sit back and pick apart movies then stop reading right here and find another movie. Otherwise this is a good, campy Sci Fi movie. Lots of aliens and explosions, etc. It ties into the first movie almost too much but gives you an interesting look at the aliens and sets up the future sequels.

I guess this got a lot of bad reviews by critics and it certainly is by no means an award winning film but it what movies are supposed to be - some fun escapism. Sure there are cheesy moments and poor dialogue but I enjoyed it for what it is - a big action, us vs the aliens, special effects laden film.

After upgrading my TV to 4K and purchasing a 4K player, it is such a big difference in what I see while watching movies. I love how clear and crisp the movies look. For anyone who loves watching movies at home, having the ability to watch true 4K movies is amazing, and is worth the extra purchase price.
