The special-effects are the same as the first one but used in a list realistic matter . The movie did not live up to the hype but is OK to watch with popcorn I don't expect the same level of excitement that was experienced in the first version of this film. I'm going to recommend this movie only because it was entertaining if you're able to ignore significant plot failures.

In this movie I can see why some big names would not touch it. At least the first movie made some attempt at making it seem a bit more realistic / likely. This second one seemed more silly, borderline comedic. It just appears as a movie that made half the attempt or effort to make this a block buster movie. With so many side stories and side themes, I didn't know if I as watching "Jurassic Park", or "The Day after Tomorrow". They tried to make the movie "International" (perhaps in effort to boost foreign sells ) by bringing in Chinese actors and actresses, but gave them such small parts, leaving the question of why even bother? Whats the point? Not to mention the predictable "romantic" attempt with the leading chinese actress and one of the co-stars" at the end. ...Really looked thrown together. The confusion of multiple stories leads to not taking the movie seriously because it doesn't really have a central theme (definitely not a theme of Independence Day) . Predictable and half baked effort of the first movie (2 stars).

I bought this for a gift and I have not watched this movie yet. But I was happy with the shopping at Best Buy

the film was not the greatest but the special effects made it acceptable. Thank goodness for special effects

Enjoyed the movie and thought pretty good as a sequel. Hard to go against the original, but enjoyed watching.

This was better than I thought it would be. It was an action movie that through and through an action sequel.

By no means is this film bad. If it came out about 4 years after the first, it would have been more exciting.

Special effects are top notch in this movie. Story line lacks a bit and Will Smith isn't there, but not bad!

Not as good as the first, but not as bad as the critics claimed. Some cheesy lines, but overall suspenseful.

I am a sucker for a good steelbook, but the movie was OK. I do like the audio commentary on the disc though.

This movie was my nephew's favorite of 2016. He is 15, so it might make a good gift idea for a teenage boy.

In the summer of sequels and reboots this wasn't well received, but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I always liked the original independence day and I think the second installment does not disappoint either.

This is a good follow-up to the original, but you just can't replace the original. Disc is of high quality.
