Not at all the First Independence Day

I am a huge fan of the first Independence Day and watched it over 25 times. This one,well I fell asleep after 30 minutes. I didn't feel the tie in between the movies. Maybe it was me. Perhaps I expected too much? Lower your expectations first and it will help.
