Pixar's catalog from the first decade of the 21st century has garnered them high expectations with every new film they make. Nearly every movie from Toy Story 1 to Wall-e was a near perfect experience that was accessible to any audience. There were of course a handful of forgettable flops along the way (Cars 2), but they generally seem to be consistent in their quality output. That being said, Inside Out is neither the height of Pixar's talent showcase, nor the depths of their cashout attempts, but rather, a highly original and imaginative story that caters more to children than anyone else. Inside Out creates a somewhat condensed but really clever representation of the human pathos in the form of a young girl going through new experiences in her life. The storywriting team cleverly takes what would be a rather routine and dull story and instead shifts the point of view to an inside look at the limbic system (that of the part of the brain that processes emotion). Each human emotion is condensed (understandably) into 5 anthromorphic characters each representing Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Envy. Through these 5 emotions, we see the processes involved in the main characters emotion-driven actions. While conceptually the movie is amazing, I still feel that the writers could have done more, and included less of their now-common tropes. Inside Out lacks the socio-political relevance of Wall-e and the hard hitting emotion of Finding Nemo and Monster's Inc., but is still a pretty decent film that stands on its own. Overall, the kids will love it, and it is definitely a movie I think every child should see, as it also paints an easy picture of the developmental process to them.

Excellent movie that in an entertaining way shows the range of emotions we all go through from the perspective of a young teenage girl, Riley. While this may not sound that enjoyable the movie is really well done. Visually the movie has never looked better than this 4K (well upscaled 2K release), with exception of the included Dolby Vision version via an included Movies Anywhere code. But this version will vary depending on your internet bandwidth and available supported hardware. Otherwise this movie is excellent and this is currently the best way to watch it uncompressed at home. Highly recommended.

You're probably already aware of the quality of the film itself. It is a Pixar movie, after all, and though their record has been a bit spotty as of recent, they can still put out animated tales with heart. This is one of them. Anyway, onto the visuals. There's not much to say. The movie looks great. It's vibrant and the colors really pop. Everything is nice and clean, crisp and clear. A wonderful transfer. If for some reason you had to choose between buying the DVD or Blu-ray, then no mistake, this is the one to get. It comes with the DVD and a digital copy, in addition to bonus features. If you have a Blu-ray player, there's no excuse not to get the superior version. After watching Pixar movies on Blu-ray, it's hard to go back to standard definition quality.

Inside Out truly surprised me. I saw this one in theaters and it grabbed me with its look at a child's emotional struggle during a major (to her) life-altering event...moving away from the home she has always known. It delivers on every mark. The acting is great. Pixar once again chooses actors for their abilities to play the characters and not just big names that will draw in the crowds. The animation is top-notch. And with 4K and HDR, the colors and the image overall just pop. I knew this would be stunning in HDR, and I was not disappointed. A worthy upgrade from the standard Blu-ray.

Barely edging out Toy Story 3 as the best Pixar movie, Inside Out gives us a glimpse into the mind of an adolescent girl going through major life changes - and it turns out that it's something we can all relate to. Sure, kids will love it - after all, it's Pixar. But adults will love it too, because we can actually RELATE to what's going on inside that young head. And not only is the movie well done, but the blu-ray comes full of really good extra features (unusual with a good movie) including deleted scenes, multiple "making of's", 2 typical Pixar shorts, including a prologue to the movie, and looks into the creation of the characters, and the women behind the movie. This blu-ray is well worth every penny you'll pay for it.

    Pixar Moviemaking at Its Best

There may not be a more successful film studio than Pixar; their ability to make entertaining family entertainment that deals with important issues in a way that adults appreciate to is unparalleled, and their films are very successful at the box office. That formula continues in Inside Out. A young girl is forced to move across the country, and we see how she deals with it through the emotions inside her head (Joy, Anger, etc), personified in a "command center." Great voice talent (Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, and Louis Black to name a few) bring those emotions to life, and a smart script allow Pixar to explore a common human experience in new way. Very highly recommended movie, which looks and sounds great on Blu-Ray.

Inside Out is a wonderful film. Emotionally full. The story focuses on a young girl whose family moves to San Francisco from Minnesota. We see inside her head all of her emotions, personified by five specific emotions, Joy, sadness, anger, disgust, and fear. Her world starts to crumble from the inside out. She feels out of place in San Francisco and believes, wrongly, the thing to do is to go back to Minnesota by running away. The story centers on how joy and sadness are so interwoven. The girls childhood included an imaginary friend. That friend is in the recesses of her mind and saves her ultimately. Smart and imaginative. Particularly when we get the opportunity to look inside the heads of both mom and dad.

Pixar's best film in years (even thought I liked Brave and Monsters U). It was charming, funny, colorful and extremely moving! It almost made me, a 27 year old man, cry a little (for those who have seen it you will probably know at what parts I'm talking about). It manages to tell competent mature story as well as entertain people of all ages. It tells that all emotions even sadness are necessary for the development of people in life (I know that is simplifying it but I hope yo get the idea). I love the way emotions and the workings of a girls mind is visioned. The film is endlessly inventive and simply beautiful. I saw this three times. This for me is the best movie of the year so far.

Inside Out uses Pixar's best animation yet and a star-studded cast of voice actors to peek into the psyche of an 11-year-old girl whose family moves from Minnesota to San Francisco, and to show the effects on her of this disruption and her internal defense mechanisms against it. I make this sound dry and psychological, but the movie shows it all in a colorful visual style that makes it all click, even if it's hard to explain in words afterward. You'll laugh, you'll cry, it's Pixar at their absolute best! Also, make sure you don't skip the included short film, Lava. It's 7 minutes of beautiful animation and music that tells a touching love story between two volcanoes. (Love, lava, get it?)
