I cook and bake a good bit, and this microwave has been the key to a good deal of my success. The rotating glass tray is quite large, so it does contain spills and accommodate containers of many sizes / dimensions. A small thing, but the glass tray easily fits onto the turntable ring without fumbling to align something. A big Pro is the door handle; in order to open it, you depress the button on the inside of the handle and then pull to open. This is a huge advantage over other microwaves, where you press a button to open the door, as this usually pushes the microwave a bit towards the edge of the table it is sitting on. I like the fact that it has a kitchen timer on it, but for the time it takes to set it with multiple button presses, I can easily just ask one of my digital assistants to set the timer. Unfortunately, there are two main things that I dislike about the display and functions. The display is very bright, which I don't like at night, as it lights up most of my kitchen. The second thing is about setting the cooking time. If you press one of the Express Cook buttons 1-6, it sets that amount of minutes and begins cooking. The usual Auto Menu (popcorn, pizza, potato, etc.) is available, so the Express Cook function seems a bit redundant. I'd much prefer to set my own time from the first button depressed on the keypad, but to do that, you need to press the Time Cook button first. My 14yo and 18yo kids use the microwave to cook, and it can be a bit confusing. I'm used to just putting in the time I want, so it feels counter-intuitive. I do like the fact that during cooking, I can press the '+30 Sec' button to add 30 more seconds worth of cook time. The selection of Power levels is helpful; the '0' power level is useful, as it just runs the fan to clear the microwave chamber of smells from previously cooked items. The Weight Defrost and Time Defrost works better than I've ever seen these functions work on other units. I do prefer the Time Defrost over the Weight Defrost, but both work surprisingly well to defrost a variety of items; I tried chicken, brats, and ground beef. In all cases, the amount of overly cooked areas were minimal compared to what I expected. I did use a Pyrex bowl for defrosting, which may have helped retain some moisture in the items. I do trust Insignia microwaves due to a positive history with them. This is not a bad microwave by any stretch, but some functions seem counter-intuitive. At maximum power, this is a powerful microwave, yet has the room and flexibility for many uses.

The Insignia Countertop Microwave is a budget friendly microwave that gets the job done. With plenty of size to cook everything from popcorn to personal size pizza this unit can handle most foods out there all without taking up too much counter space. At first tryout i was kind of laughing at myself because i was too dumb to read the sign they clearly put on the window which let you know how to open the door, which was a lift up, pull out style, so keep that in mind lol. This microwave has just about most settings that you would expect to find on just about any modern microwave. One of the first thing i like to always try out is the popcorn setting as this is my favorite snack to make and some microwaves out there can tend to over cook it. The setting was already set up perfect and at full completion time the popcorn was cooked to perfection. No burnt popcorn and very few uncooked kernels were left. The defrost power level 1 worked great for my morning time breakfast which usually includes me thawing out some sausage or bacon in order to complete my meal of eggs. Using the defrost setting has always been hit or miss for me as most my microwaves in the past tend to never thaw them out properly, leaving the middle always frozen which requires me to always adjust my settings. This one was good to go with no adjustments needed which saved time allowing me to get my day started earlier. All in all this is a microwave that comes in at a solid price point that wont break the bank. It offers a happy medium of size all while not taking up precious counter space. It does tend to lean more towards the bulky size so i would recommend mounting it in a cabinet however it will fit just fine on most counter spaces. I have always had good luck with Insignia brands as far as quality and longevity go so i would expect no less from this microwave.

I was looking for a microwave I could use out in our garage that wouldn’t break the bank, and that also would be somewhat more subdued color wise. This microwave looks great and performs well! It has all the convenience features you would hope for, including express times, +30-second quick add, and built-in defrost and popcorn functions. Very convenient. One thing that is going to take some getting used to is the handle design. The release latch at the top of the handle is different than most straight-pull handle designs these days. It is a nice chuckle to watch one of my family members try to open it for the first time and tug the whole microwave without the door budging. This may be exactly what you need if you have curious toddlers around who may try to microwave their hot wheel car. I would give this microwave a try! The Insignia 1.1 Cubic Foot Countertop Microwave is a great basic microwave with all the features you would come to expect in a microwave. The microwave is 1000 W and features an internal light, rotating glass turntable, 2 step locking doorhandle, bright LED display, and 9 preset cooking functions. As previously stated, all of this is pretty much what you would expect a microwave to contain. Operation is also very familiar if you have used a microwave any time recently. The only thing that caught me a little off guard is the two-step doorhandle. There's a little trigger-like button near the top of the handle that you need to squeeze to actually unlatch the door. Very handy if you have small children that you don't want to access the microwave. Functionally, the microwave works as expected. It is easy to use and cooks my food exactly as expected. The added quick functions are nice to have, but I find myself only regularly using the +30 second option, and occasionally the popcorn function. Other than that, I just manually input the time I want something to cook and don't mess with anything else. But this is how I've treated every microwave I've ever owned. Ultimately, this is a very well-built microwave that doesn't reinvent the wheel, so to speak. It does what a microwave is supposed to do, and it does it well. If you need a basic countertop microwave, you can't go wrong with the Insignia.

This microwave is rather convenient to use and more powerful than our old one. It is also easy to operate except for a different way to open it: by pressing a small "button" inside the handle, so one should never forget it while opening the door.

The microwave is a great, powerful, medium-sized microwave.I have seen other reviews that mentioned the door handle but I see the handle as a plus

If you are looking for a great basic microwave, this one won't disappoint. We have a good mix of black and black/white appliances in our kitchen. It was time to replace a fancy microwave that had started to malfunction and I didn't want something too over the top again. I wanted something with a big enough space to fit larger plates if needed and I wanted a handle specifically as that was another issue we were having with our previous push to open style microwave door. If you have smaller kids, the handle on this is amazing. You have to press a little trigger inside the top part of the handle in addition to pulling it and this is equipped with a child proof mode that is fairly easy to turn off and on as well. This was packed really nicely and was not damaged at all upon arrival. It was quick to set up and get the clock set to the correct time. I appreciated that there wasn't a ton of extra or wasteful packaging on the items as well. There is a nice set up under the glass plate that keeps it rotating and we've had no issue cooking all sorts of things and reheating leftovers. Definitely recommend this one.

The Insignia™ - 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave – Black can cook and heat up food just as most microwaves operate. The difference in the Insignia™ - 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave – Black is the method of operation. With the ability to change the power level, I can reduce the wattage used which can help avoid a strain on my homes electrical system. Food can be made quickly on the highest power level of ten or a lower power level can be used to cook for a longer period of time. I first just made a cup of tea with a two minute setting at fifty-percent power. It was not hot enough to simmer the tea bag, but two minutes on the highest power level of ten did heat my water enough to simmer the tea bag. Popcorn caused me a problem, because the instructions give cooking by package weight. I have a family size jar and do not pop in a bag. Using my glass bowl, I was able to pop me some popcorn, by simply selecting the amount of time myself. The automatic popcorn menu does not provide enough time and heat for an amount not in a popcorn bag. Food heated up steamy with times over three minutes, but did not get warm enough to enjoy with a two minute selection or less. I find it better to just select the minutes myself to operate the microwave, instead of pressing any of the auto menu buttons (Popcorn, Potato, Pizza, Frozen vegetables, Beverages and Dinner plate). The dark color blends in nicely with my kitchen area and fits perfectly near the corner of my kitchen counter. Even without using the auto menu, the Insignia™ - 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave – Black can handle all the necessary microwave duties a cook needs.

Works great and fits a full size dinner plate without taking to much room. Another good thing i didnt notice at first was the ding at end is not obnoxiously annoying like my last one

Perfect replacement for my possessed microwave that turned itself on every day at 1103am to defrost. Really it did. Love the updated design

worked fine and did the job, until about two weeks ago when it would turn itself on and off when I was no where close to using it, it would randomly act like it was heating something while it was never turned on. Then it just working when I actually tried to heat something and of course this started 1 month after the 1 year warranty...

powerful, a little heavier than expected, hard to read controls, no re-heat button, must read manual to play with the results you want. Good price so you get what you paid for not as many bells and whistles as other units

I can make glkd food with this microwave fir my kids. Worked fabulous and gives me a gokd relaxation while microwaving:)
