Connecting the Old with the New.

Well, new computers no longer come with a 9 pin jack to connect printers to. As I have an old tag printer which connects to the computer using a 9 pin cable and my new computer does not have a 9 pin jack, the only way I could figure out how to connect it was with a 9 pin x USB adapter. I use to the printer to print plant tags for our orchid plants when we divide and re-pot them. Once the drivers were installed on the computer, we were back in the tag printing business. Cable worked great.

Needed this adapter to connect some older serial devices, and it worked right away with no issues. The Prolific chipset is reliable, the build quality feels solid, and the connection is stable. Plug-and-play on my computer with no hassle. Great little cable if you still use RS-232 gear.

Excellent way to adapt DB9 to USB

This adapter saved me! I have an engine analyzer which has a DB9 output connector, but my laptop has no DB9. The manual includes a link to download drivers, so here's a hint: read the instructions! I had to install the drivers for Windows7 twice (did I mention RTFM?), but the bits played together nicely after the second go. The installation is not hard, you just need to watch the sequence, no big deal. I'm a very happy camper.

Good cable for devices without a serial port

If you have a laptop without a serial port, like most do nowadays, this cable is a must have. It allows you do connect devices that require an RS-232 port over USB (must install drivers on laptop to use). One minor nuance is I do wish the cable was slightly longer, other than that, works well.

I purchased this to connect an older piece of equipment to a slightly older Dell laptop when the computer I was using died. I was told I most likely would not be able to use my older equipment, so this was a life-saver. It worked perfectly and was very quick to self-install drivers.

Not many people have a need for this. Heck, even the young worker in electronics had never heard of an RS-232 Serial port :) But this cable was exactly what I needed and was able to find at Best Buy!

Works exactly as advertised. This is a good quality cable and was kept in stock at my local Best Buy. My girlfriend needed it urgently to replace the old one for her Stenograph machine, and we are very happy with the results. Keep in mind that the length is quite short, so make sure to get the appropriate length for your needs.

Needed to connect some legacy equipment to a newer PC. I was shocked that BB had these in stock in a local store when everyone else that sells them wants to ship it. Worked flawlessly. No installation of external drivers needed, Windows 10 did it all. Perfect solution.

I bought this thinking I needed to use it to access a kernel crash dump; when hooking up a KVM switch to a running system, the newly connected USB ports are not recognized on a VMware ESX server, so the server has to be rebooted to establish connection. You can't login to the server and issue a command to rescan the ports because it is hung in a kernel crash dump.
The cable was too short to be able to be used for this application; I could have bought or found an extender cable, but my manager didn't want me touching the systems because they were being used for long running tests, so I returned the adapter. I didn't get a chance to see if it would have had a live connection to the crash dump.
