Great microwave with plenty of power
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Insignia 1.6 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave is a nice appliance for your kitchen. It comes with Sensor Cooking and Inverter Technology. The microwave comes well packaged and the setup is extremely easy. Simply take the microwave out of the packaging, install the tray and rollers inside the microwave and you’re ready to go. The outside of the microwave goes well with our kitchen decor. We have a combination of black and stainless steel appliances. The inside of the microwave is white. I wish the inside was a darker color. Our previous microwave was a dark gray and it did an excellent job of hiding food stains. The opening and closing of the door is different from what I’m accustomed to . You have to press the latch that’s on the handle to open it. It does make it easier for opening, rather than just pulling it like other microwaves. Closing the door without using the button on the handle makes a rather loud sound. If you press the handle button while closing the door, it won’t be as loud. The inside of the microwave has plenty of space due to its 1.6 cu ft of space. The unit comes with 11 power levels and 19 presets. When using your own time for cooking, you have to click the Time Cook button, enter your number, and then hit start. I wish I could just type in the number and hit start like my previous microwave. I guess having to press Time Cook each time isn’t a deal breaker. The microwave does a great job of warming up my food with its 1,400 watts of power. Everything is warmed up evenly. Overall, this is a good microwave for our kitchen, which I hope we’re able to get years of great use from it.

It's a Good and Powerful (Wattage) Microwave
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very good looking microwave, aesthetic-wise. I would consider this medium size (my previous microwave was bigger). Although I consider it medium, it is a good interior size. You can put regular-sized plates inside. You're not putting in a 9x13 casserole dish (and you shouldn't expect to), but there is space in there. A few other things about the physical looks/parts of this microwave: The handle has a lever on the top that you have to push up in order to then pull the handle towards you to open the microwave door. It's weird and unnecessary, but it's there. I would prefer it not there, but I got used to hit very quickly. I would still prefer it not present. Another big thing, and one of the reasons I knocked off one star is that the keypad is not backlit. I walk into my kitchen in the dark a lot (just because I just do) and I went to grab popcorn and when I put it in, I said, "oh." I had to guess, but I knew where the 30 second button was kind of located, so I went for it and hit the right button. Yay for me. But I wish the keyboard would light up, at least at the point of pushing one button; but it doesn't. Okay, the microwave. I truly thought this was an 1100 watt microwave (which is my ideal microwave), but it is more powerful... either 1200 or 1400 watts. Good grief! That is way more than I bargained for. But it is what it is. If you are like me and know about microwaves and the wattage power's effect on doing what it does, then you know; and just beware. The microwave does the basics of what it's supposed to do -- warms, defrosts. You can hit "Time" and put your own amount of time to microwave. You can hit "Power" and adjust the power that the microwave uses for whatever you have in there (100% power, 20% power, etc). You can express cook by simply hitting one of the digits of 1 - 6 and it will give you that many minutes off the bat... the microwave just starts (example: hit the 1 button and it will run for 1 minute; hit the 6 button and it will run for 6 minutes; etc.). You can use one of the presets. I tested the defrost with veggies (that is the only thing I was willing to test because food is expensive). It did the job. I did melting butter as well as soften butter (those are both important for me). It did the job. But THEE most important thing for me... POPCORN! So this was a struggle and the other reason for knocking off one star. I buy the mini popcorns packs (rhymes with bore-dill-bed-and-soccer). I hit popcorn 3x to go to the 1.5 setting (you can hit once for 3 and then twice for 1.75; those numbers relate to the size of the popcorn bag). I let it run until the end on purpose. It severely burnt my popcorn. I did what I used to do and hit the 30 seconds button 3x (for 1.5 minutes) and paid attention. It still burnt my popcorn even though it was still popping some. I am still testing this out, but I am thinking the microwave is too powerful for microwaved popcorn. Annoying. If you don't microwave a lot of popcorn on a regular/daily basis, it's a good microwave and I recommend it. I went into detail about the popcorn because I eat it all the time so it is the #1 thing I need a microwave to do right. Peace.

Great microwave with even heating
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing was easy and it did not require much to set up beyond setting the time and installing the rotating glass tray. The size of this is much wider and deeper than my current microwave it replaced so I did have to make room. Definitely measure the space if your counter is tight with your where you want to place it. Use: The microwave heats and cooks’ food very efficiently. I brought in leftovers for lunch and normally they are hot on the outside and cold on the inside. This was an even temp all around. What a significant difference it has made to reheating food. This is so much quieter than my past microwave. I feel the price point is very affordable for what is provided. The stainless finish is nice and did not seem to collect fingerprints. I do love the “30 seconds” button since not every microwave has that. Great when you need to just heat something a little more. The user guide was helpful in knowing the different modes and why you would use them. The wattage for the model is very effective for the price of the unit. I like the fact that the device has a child safety lock on the door. In summary I do not feel that you can go wrong with this model provided that it has the correct amount of space inside and fits on your counter.

A great and powerful option
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are appliances we expect to simply do their job efficiently, reliably, and as designed. The Insignia 1.6 cu ft Microwave does exactly that, and it does it well. It delivers quick, consistent heat while preserving the integrity and texture of the food. The manufacturer talks about its sensor cooking and inverter technology. In my case, I can talk about the real difference between this and the older microwave (about five years old) that I moved from. Here’s what I’ve noticed so far: 1. Faster cooking: The first thing that stood out was how much faster it works. With noticeably higher power, my reheating times have dropped by more than 40%. One note to the manufacturer: the spec sheet in the web lists 1200 W, but the box shows 1400 W. It would be good to clarify the right power and what number is accurate. 2. More even heating: This is one of the biggest improvements over my old model. I used to have to stop halfway through to stir the food and restart. Now, the heat seems to be distributed much more evenly. I don’t have professional testing equipment, but I can tell the difference. That annoying layer of burnt grease I used to get on red meats is gone. Ribs and BBQ reheat perfectly, keeping their texture intact. 3. Reliable preset functions: Like most microwaves, this one includes presets for common foods. But in this case, perhaps thanks to the sensor cooking feature the popcorn and pizza settings actually work right. The cooking times are well-calibrated, and the results are consistent. 4. Great aesthetics and build quality: I really like the look of the stainless-steel finish. It’s modern and fits nicely in any kitchen. Even better, it appears to have a fingerprint-resistant coating, which I can confirm truly works. It stays clean and sleek with minimal wiping. 5. Practical door design: The door lock mechanism took me by surprise at first since I was used to the traditional push-button release. But after a few days, I started to appreciate it. It clearly reduces accidental or unintended openings. It feels solid and secure. 6. All the essentials still there: Nothing revolutionary here, but everything works as it should: a bright interior light, a sturdy glass turntable, and a design that feels built to last. Being an Insignia product, the price is very competitive for the features you get. My only suggestion for the manufacturer would be to extend the warranty to two years, even if just as a show of confidence in their quality. Overall, this is a great product and a safe purchase in a category crowded with options. If you want a microwave that performs great, this Insignia model delivers exactly what it promises.

Perfect for my camper
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Insignia microwave meets my needs very well. I picked up this microwave because I needed a new one in my camper. The 1.6 CU. FT. unit was a perfect fit for the space I have. I don’t necessarily “cook” full meals in a microwave. I’m more prone to use it to prepare side dishes, re-warm leftovers, and pop popcorn. This unit does those things very well. Packaging was stout and the unit arrived in perfect condition. Setup was super easy. Just box, remove some tape, put the plate stand and the plate in, and you are ready to go. I like the stainless steel and black aesthetic. When it comes to cooking, it works well. Much better than my old unit. Take a little time and get familiar with the preset and sensor cook operations. You can certainly just throw something in there and turn it on, but if you actually use the features, I think you’ll be glad you took time to learn them. Popcorn comes out great, and you can tell it how much you are popping which helps reduce un-popped kernels. It sensor cooks potatoes very well. Just push the button and let it figure it out on its own. You don’t get the crispy skin like you do in the oven, but it’s a great time saver and keeps you from running the oven when it’s hot. It also warmed my left-over chicken fajitas to perfection without making the veggies too mushy. It also does a nice job at softening butter, thanks to the inverter technology. Inverter technology is a nice step up from what I’m used to. In an older microwave, when you want to cook at 50% power, all it really does is turn on and off to simulate about 50% power. With an inverter microwave, the circuit board truly reduces the power to a continuous 50%. This leads to more even cooking and helps keep things from turning into mush. So ya, this is great little microwave. It’s perfect for my camper and I’m looking forward to years of use. It’s a tad loud compared to my indoor microwave, but I really don’t care.
