That being said, I bought mine first to try it out, then I bought two more to give as gifts; only wish to be able to turn the sound up just a few more notches.

Not what I was expecting

The play mechanism is flimsy, in itself. Placing the DVD into the holder is not as simple as it should be. Now, if I had kids that would be a real issue - it would be broken in a single day. But being a careful adult, I can deal with flimsy. But then I played a dvd...and the player is VERY noisy. The noise of the player cannot be ignored and I've got the volume turned up to try to cover that noise. Ended up having to wrap the whole thing in a heavy sweater to watch a movie - and even then could still hear the playing mechanism. I thought about placing some thin foam insulation under the mechanism cover but then reconsidered....why should I have to do that with a brand new player? Aside from that, the remote is too small and I can't make out the labels on the tiny buttons. My previous DVD player made by a competitor (stolen) was much better quality for a similar price. There are probably worse players out there, which is why I give it two stars instead of one. Will be returning this garbage for refund... and I have to drive 75 miles out of my way to do that (drive 75 to pick it up) so you all can work out in your minds whether this player is worth keeping.
