You need to buy a special machine oil separately and clean the spindle once a month. The paper and plastic credit cards are totally shredded into small unreadable confetti. To nitpick, there is no top cover over the paper slot to prevent things from falling in from children or adults so for added safety, I just made my own plastic cover. I'm really happy with it and have no reservations in recommending this product. It's a great unit! :)
