Successfully shredded a dog rabies tag!

I bought this unit a couple of years ago, to replace an existing shredder that died of old age. I actually bought one or two other models from Best Buy and ended up returning them because - frankly - they sucked. If you have enough money to buy this shredder, and Best Buy is the place you want to buy the shredder, this is your best option, and you will love it. My only concern, and it's not even that big of a deal, is that the "head" is not removable from the stand/base. Probably more secure/safe that way, but it makes cleaning slightly more difficult. I shred a lot of documents, all the time, and just shredded about 5 or 6 years of back-log. One of my folders had a stack of paperwork from the vet, and the vet had affixed a metal rabies tag inside. I would not recommend you trying this at home - this was an accident. It got stuck at first: I couldn't get it to move forward, and it was getting stuck in the rim trying to reverse. But with rocking back and forth (forward and reverse) the shredder finally SHREDDED the entire dog tag. It did not just pass the dog tag through mauled. It shredded it into tiny pieces just like the paper. I was floored! So...this isn't a $500 shredder, but you get every penny out of this shredder, plus you get the benefit of the Best Buy return policy, which is good. If you shred a LOT of paperwork, I'd suggest buying the extended warranty plan. I strongly dislike extended warranties, but things with moving parts, like shredders, sometimes have issues not related to use, and it's great to be able to simply being it back and get a new one. If this unit were to break, I'd replace it with the same model if I could. I like the micro-fine shredding, because that provides improved security/safety. Consumers really don't need a smaller cut than this ('microcut" is pretty good), as you can see if you demo the unit in the store, you won't be able to reassemble, especially if you shred things regularly. I wanted to write this review because I shredded more than four, stuffed, 13-gallon trash bags worth of shredding in two days. Talk about duty cycle! If I had killed this shredder because of the dog tag, or even shredding constantly for two days, I would have just written it off as "oh well, I killed it!" But it keeps on running. Nice product that I would certainly recommend to anyone serious about shredding at this price point.

Right Size, Micro shredding, Quiet, Easy to Use

Recently, I was forced into researching and purchasing a new shredder because my old faithful cross-cut shredder I have had for approximately 17 years, finally died. Alas. This microcut shredder fit my current criteria (microcuts, quiet, home/small business use, dvd & credit card shredding, etc.). In the 2 months since I purchased it, it has proven to be a significant improvement over the old one: much quieter, much more secure (microcuts), easy to view the fill state, and very easy to empty. I recommend that with the dry winter air indoors, that, after removing the bin, prior to emptying it, the user spray a light mist of water on the contents of the bin in order to reduce the number of fly-away bits of shredded paper. Lesson learned.

Great Shredder,Does Job Well,Not Noisy To Me

Since I had let my papers back up before buying my shredder I had lots to do.This shredder handled my stacks well, never overheated once. Only saw the overload light once and that's when we tested running more than 10 sheets thru it,simply reversed it and lightened to correct number and away we went.. Noise level is less than my old shredder and normal to me, didn't sound loud to me,, different strokes for different folks,,right? We are very happy with this shredder thus far and feel it will suit our everyday needs, such as junk mail, etc. Hope it hold up a long time cause we love it...

Great shredder for what I paid

I had a $50 reward certificate that I used on this product. I read a few reviews to see what type of paper shredders are best. I like that this one is microcut,so my information is in no way going to be reproduced. I wish it could shred more papers at once. When I do shred the max it sounds like it is going to die, but does get the job done. It's good for shredding day to day stuff, but I had a lot of shredding that I had been saving up for way too long and it took forever to get through it all (it overheats after so much continued use). I think it is worth it for what I paid, but I don't think I would pay full price on it if I didn't have the rewards.

Not so fast but very efficient

As some has mentioned, the unit isn’t the fastest, however it is very efficient. I had over a years worth of things that needed shredded and in a few hours, I had everything shredded and bagged. I experienced a few times where it did shut off due to overheating (light indicator), but that was expected with the amount of things needed shredded. It’s one of the most highly reviewed inexpensive microshredders sold at BBY. I expect this to do an excellent job for anyone looking to shred without stalling when you keep items at a mangemable amount.

Have not had or used that long

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I also, just replaced a Fellows, which lasted me about 2 to 3 years. I shred a lot and have noticed that I do go through shredders every few years. This shredder is a little slower and not as powerful as my last, but so be it. People need to keep themselves in check, when doing things. I have noticed through the years that shredding in a hurry and overfilling has been my downfall, as far as how long my shredders have lasted. You need to keep them lubricated, and not overfill, to the best of your ability. If you abuse a shredder, like anything else, it is not going to make a difference if you pay $100.00 or a $1000.00, it is not going to last as long as it is suppose to. Overheating and jamming only lessons the life expectancy, no matter what kind of functions you have on it. My Fellows I just replaced was so powerful that I ended up busting out the back of it, from overstuffing it, too much. So those of you who worry so much about, how long a shredder takes to cool off, all I can say is, " its better to have a little patience than to have to buy a new shredder". Take a few deep breaths, calm down, go do something else, feed the kids, pets, or whatever. Just go and blow some time and your shredder will stay working a lot longer. A happy wife is a happy life! That goes for shredders, also. Treat your shredder like your wife and you can't go wrong.

Works well but is not auto on

I like the shredder. It is not loud and the paper feeds well. I took a star off as it said it had Auto on, but it does not. It is just a on/off button. My old shredder had auto on and the shredder would turn on automatically when I fed the paper and then stop by itself. This shredder does not do that. I have to turn it on every time and turn it off.

Works great, does not do 10 sheets of copier paper

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The shredder works geat, it will handle up to 3 sheets of copier paper at once with out bogging down. It will handle 10 register receipts at once. In my opinion the disc shredding portion should be finer, however it does render the disc unusable.

The Microcut Shredder is quiet and efficient. The larger capacity is helpful so do not have to empty so often! On wheels! Can move around easily! Good price (on sale) and prompt delivery!

Shredder Takes a Vacation At Times

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The unit is lightweight and has an easy-to-remove basket for emptying. The basket contains a clear window so it’s easy to monitor how full it is. One complaint is that, on several occasions, I found large strips of unshredded sections amongst the contents of the basket. I also found a chunk about 1/4 of an inch wide by the entire length of a credit card. I had shredded the card, yet this piece somehow made it through still intact. It contained my entire name and the credit card number — which basically defeats the purpose of shredding, to maintain security of one’s identity.
