Great purchase(s)...but not perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Needed a bigger beer/overflow fridge in the spare bedroom, and hated the chest freezer I had, so I bought 2. Two things I hated right away - 1. Doors are not reversible. Really??? This is BASIC fridge stuff! 2. Temp ranges. In freezer mode, the highest poss setting is 10 deg., in fridge mode, the lowest is 35. Again, WHY? May not need it, but I'd rather have more versatility. I like my beverages a tad above freezing, so I was concerned - esp since the ambient in that room is currently around 90 deg. Put a thermometer that stores high/low history, and... wow, the highest, after 1 month, is 45. Prob due to loading it with door open. Beverages have been suitably cold, under the torture test that is the only 2 months of hot Seattle weather we get, in a room with no AC. The other unit, in freezer mode did equally well. Started off at 0 deg, but bumped it up to the max (10 deg), and room-temp meat was frozen inside of a day. What sucks is that I have 8-9 months where I could clearly have the temp at 20-30 deg, and still keep everything frozen, but don't have the option. But hey, if your freezer and fridge both still do their job in 90 deg ambient, should be a 5 star - the fact that I can't reverse the doors (stupid!) brings it down to a 4. Was kinda worried about really loading the shelves with multiple layers of cans, after seeing reviews about the glass breaking, but think I'm gonna try it now that I see that basic functionality is up to par...

My Convertible Upright Insignia Freezer

I research a lot of freezers and decided the Convertible Upright Stainless Steel Insignia Freezer was right for my household. It's very compatible with my Stainless Steel Refrigerator. I love the Indicator light and the ability to convert from freezer to refrigerator. There is a lock in place after you set it. Also I love how roomy it is and the multiple shelves and large slide container at the bottom. The shelves on the door are good for me storing smaller items like juice, butter, and small milk cartons.

It's been 1 month since the freezer was delivered, and I am not disappointed. Besides being very roomy, it also presents a very slick appearance that complements the rest of my appliances. All my frozen foods fit nicely, and it does a very good job of keeping everything nice and frozen. It also has a very tight seal. I would definitely recommend.

Works great and it is rated for use in our garage. Shelves are built strong and can hold a load. The upright freezer makes it easier to find what you want.

Saved me in an emergency

It saved me when my 2 1/2 year old samsung(crap) refrigerator broke. I bought this as a "cat food" freezer. I make homemade raw cat food and needed a small freezer to store it in. I put it in my garage alongside my larger freezer. When my samsung refrigerator broke, I immediately converted this to a refrigerator, moved the contents to my larger freezer, and put all of my samsung fridge contents in the insignia. This was a lifesaver as it prevented me from having to throw much of my food away that couldn't be frozen. It also gave me a lot of time to fight with samsung over the warranty as I wasn't desperate for a new fridge. The results of that fix is still in progress. Needless to say, I should have heeded the warnings of others who said to STAY AWAY FROM SAMSUNG APPLIANCES. The only thing I will advise on the insignia, is that if you're going to put a lot of stuff in the door, make sure you tilt the freezer a little more to the back. I didn't do that at first and the door would pop open. After raising the front legs, that problem went away. It would also be nice if they added a lock/key to the freezer so that it would ensure that it wouldn't pop open. I used to have it connected to wifi, but it had a hard time staying connected since it was out in the garage.
