If you’re looking to hear voices better, you need a 3 channel sound bar. It will have a center speaker for dialogue. Either 3.0 (sound bar and no sub) or 3.1 (sound bar with a sub) will fix this problem for you.

Haven't tried optical yet. Max volume level is decreasing over course of the month I've had it. Otherwise its just ok. Surprising amount of bass but other eq levels are better suited to tv watching more than music.
