Amazing sound for this price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was perfect timing. I had just purchased a soundbar for my Rog Strix 18" gaming laptop a couple days before I saw this, so I was able to get this and when the other one arrived, returned unopened. I had to purchase a monitor riser for my gaming desk so I'd have a place I could put this. Again, that riser was purchased with the other sound bar in mind, so I was fortunate to have about 1 CM extra on each side of THIS soundbar when I tried to make it fit. I had not realized that the subwoofer was wireless, since I was focusing on the photos to find something that I could fit into my environment, so that was a nice surprise. I was unable to see if there's a timeout on the sub after the soundbar is turned off. Since the soundbar and computer and other things on that gaming desk are all controlled via smart plugs and Alexa voice control, I had wanted the sub in another part of the room. But not being able to see if it would power off or not, that precluded me from putting this in another corner of the gaming room. It is possible I didn't wait long enough but I went over half an hour and the green pairing LED kept blinking looking for the mothership, so that was long enough for me. Fortunately, I was able to fit it near the desk so it's on my smart power plug that turns things there on and off. And since this was a gaming laptop going to a nice gaming monitor, there was no option or EARC or anything else. I had no optical out on the laptop. So I had to use the simple little 2 channel aux cord. I was not sure what to expect. I've got a very high end media center room with a large OLED and a UST Epson projector that both use a sound system that is Dolby Atomos 7.2. And that's what I used to game on, when I was still using my Xbox Series X and my PS5. But I've since moved to computer-based gaming simply because I was tired of the subscriptions for everything. And thus, my sound experience for gaming shrunk down to headphones plugged into my Scarlet audio interface (I also use this gaming laptop as a recording studio laptop) or the laptop's built in speakers. And once these were connected and going, I forgot just how nice it is to have a fuller, more powerful sound when gaming... When I was trying to put the subwoofer in another corner of the room, the separation meant that the soundbar could get a little tinny sounding. But with them near each other now, that isn't noticeable with the bass from the sub right there. So far I've simply played various kinds of music, and played some games. The music sounds so much better now than the built in speakers. Brighter, more expansive. And the subwoofer makes everything so much better than it had been. But gaming - I forgot just how much I loved good bass from explosions. Between Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, Destiny 1 and Destiny 2, I've been reminded of how much better the gaming experience can be with some good sound. Packaged oddly, with the subwoofer on top of one end, and a box that wasn't a standard rectangular box. But the out of box experience was great, since the end and top all opened up easily, so you could remove everything without any problem. There was Styrofoam inside protecting things from damage as well. Came with an HDMI cable, but I had to go buy the Aux cable, since I must have cleaned them all out of my cable stash long time ago. The remote works fine, lets you change inputs and other settings, and it's nice that there is a voice to say "HDMI" or "Optical" or "Aux" when you are going through the inputs so you know where you are. There is a small LED in the center in front, it's not too obtrusive so shouldn't be an issue. Sub is downward facing, the cone right there, with a port on the back. There are four peg feet a bit less than an inch to hold it off the surface you place it on. II have to admit, it's better than I expected for this price point. Sounds SO much better than I've had. For such a low price point, you can't go wrong.

Punching Above Its Weight
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Insignia’s new 2.1 offering of a soundbar with detached wireless subwoofer is an interesting and welcome addition to the flooded field of soundbar options. Soundbars seem to come solo or with desirable attachments. Solo soundbars tend to be sonically inadequate, and supported soundbars can be problematic. This new Insignia soundbar with its associated wireless subwoofer establishes a surprisingly nice sound improvement for an AV upgrade or for musical production in general. This arrives as a no-frills low-budget device that keeps the low-budget….but which somehow feels like it punches WAY above the no-frills department. There is literally no setup at all (unless you are looking to mount the bar on your wall). Operation is very simple – there is an included remote control that is simple and intuitive. Adjustments to bass and treble are visible by clear LED feedback on the bar itself. The number one stat for this combo on the box is something called DTS Virtual:X – which I have no sonic recognition or reference for. But….what I can tell you is that stereo content is clear and well-spaced in a way that makes the room conform to everything being playing (video or strictly audio content). But there is one thing that I think separates this soundbar combo from combos hitting at way higher prices, the balance between the bar and the subwoofer. Separation of frequencies is something that was solved before I was born (spin that wheel!)…so it has always been strange that separating bass notes can be so surgical sounding in application. So often bass notes are offered as an appreciation of fullness in the absence of full musical representation. Very expensive soundbars and sound systems can fail at this. But this very inexpensive soundbar option manages to provide a sound “experience” that is full and rich AND balanced. For consumers who are interested in an enhanced AV experience from their nice TV, any soundbar will upgrade your experience and this simple soundbar will upgrade your experience way above its asking price. Recommending this soundbar is not an endorsement of perfection, rather a round of applause for an affordable entry-level sound improvement choice to upgrade your AV experience or, for that matter, your overall musical listening experience. Happily recommended.
