The box is padded on the bottom and the four side corners, with a thin sheet of foam on all 4 sides and the top but the top corners are unprotected and that's where the consistent and very noticeable damage is. May change it if I can get an undamaged one and try it out but I've carried two up and down my office's stairs already. Not sure the time waste is worth the savings at this point. PAD THE TOP CORNERS
