decent but relying on a remote is annoying

However, they do require using a remote (that requires special batteries) and that can be annoying. Why they could not simply add one or two LEDS and buttons to avoid forced use of a remote that could be easily lost is an unfortunate cost saving move. Engineers need to understand that a little bit of feedback in the form of an LCD screen or multiple buttons goes a long way to making a product easy to use. Whether or not the requirement to use a remote is a dealbreaker is a personal choice.
