    Three fridges in five months

    It has taken three fridges, four installation crews, a technician, a plumber, and numerous phone calls over a five month period to get a working Insignia 18.6 cu. ft. bottom freezer refrigerator. With limited space for a replacement fridge, the Insignia met our requirement for a bottom freezer drawer and fit our space limitations. Although it didn't come with an icemaker an after-market add-on was available, which we chose to have installed by Best Buy. The fridge was delivered and installed in February, about a week after our in-store purchase. After a couple of months, we noticed ice build-up on the drawer in the freezer. Thinking it was because the drawer had not been fully closed, we cleaned off the ice. However, the ice build-up requiring cleanup continued to occur. We called Best Buy to set up a service call but were told that they did not have any technicians that were qualified to evaluate the Insignia product, even though it is a Best Buy house brand. We were offered a replacement fridge and installation under the manufacturer's warranty. While preparing to install the new fridge, the installers said that the water line was not up to code as it wasn’t fitted with a shut-off valve, and we would need to get a plumber to install a valve. This was a surprise as the previous installation team didn’t have a problem, and our previous fridge operated for many years with a water line connected. We were able to get a plumber out within a couple of days. After he pulled out the fridge, he told us that there was a valve on the water supply to the fridge, but it was an old type so we agreed that it should be replaced. We ended up spending around four hundred dollars on something that probably wasn’t necessary. After more phone calls to Best Buy we arranged for a new fridge delivery and installation about a week later. Installation appeared to go smoothly, with the water and icemaker hooked up. Shortly after the installation crew packed up and set off for their next appointment, we noticed that the fridge had not been properly levelled. We immediately called the installation crew leader, but he told us that they couldn’t return to correct the problem and that we should call Best Buy and get a service technician to finish the job. A couple of days later a technician came out and told us that the fridge could not be levelled. The rollers on the rear of the fridge were fixed and only the front feet could be adjusted. The problem was in the manufacturing and quality control and had been observed on a number of other similar Insignia fridges. The solution was another replacement fridge. About a week later the second replacement fridge was installed. Initially the installation crew leader said that the work order did not indicate that the icemaker was to be removed and reinstalled in the second replacement fridge. However, he agreed to undertake the work which saved us another wait for a technician to show up and do the work. He was the most professional of the installers that we dealt with. Finally, after weeks of back and forth with Best Buy, we had a fridge that was complete and in working order. While the Insignia fridge meets our requirements, we are unlikely to purchase major appliances from Best Buy in the future. Manufacturing quality control is poor, and Best Buy do not appear to check the appliance before it leaves their warehouse. Setting up a repair appointment was convoluted and confusing even to the Best Buy / Geek Squad staff. For example, we were initially told that the repair would trigger our extended warranty. After more phone calls, it was agreed that the work would be performed under the 12-month manufacturer’s warranty. The customer should not need to check and correct Best Buy / Geek Squad staff on such a simple point. We understand that the installers are not Best Buy / Geek Squad employees but are subcontractors. The second installers gave us incorrect information about the need for a water valve. The third installers left without informing us that the fridge could not be levelled, maybe thinking that we wouldn’t notice. Overall, we give our Best Buy Insignia experience one star.

    First time it was delivered, it was broken inside. Then they came and replaced the fridge but used the door and the drawer from the broken one (?!). Then I noticed ice on my bags in freezer only to realize that the drawer wasn’t closing. And then they delivered a new one, this time they didn’t combine old and new parts. It’s working, I like it, I would give it more stars, but because of all of these, just 3.

    This refrigerator/freezer makes loud water draining sounds, the outside alternates between hot to the touch and cool, and even though the Agent came out to fix the doors, it's starting to become unreliable again.
